Does anybody else feel like crap due to the heat?

I'm a very pale person and don't bode well when it's this hot. I'm in London where we've had absolutely roasting, humid weather.

My flat becomes sauna-like and no amount of having the fan on or opening window's makes a difference.

For days I've felt completely drained, weak and nauseous.

I'm not moaning, I'm glad people take joy from the sun, I'm just wondering if anybody else finds they've been feeling very bleugh too?

Yup...hate it!

Currently wfh in DS's paddling pool with laptop on a camping table set up over it. Sorry you're still inside OP, must be unbearable. I almost slept outside on our sun lounger last night but then got spooked by a fox in the hedge.

I'm in Australia and suffer from the heat badly (poor choice of country I know!). The biggest game changer for me, when having days at home in a hot house, was to have a number of short cool showers or baths frequently during the day (eg every hour or 2 if you can manage it), making sure you get your head and hair wet. Really helps to equalise body temperature for me. A cool sink wash of face neck and head can help a lot too if a full bath/shower isn't viable. I feel for you all!! (It's winter here atm)

Lottapianos · 10/08/2020 13:15

It's truly hideous in London. I've had a low level headache for the past few days and felt very woozy on Saturday afternoon. I honestly dont know how anyone enjoys this weather. I love a bit of sun and warmth, but dripping with sweat all day and feeling exhausted is not my idea of fun

BarbedBloom · 10/08/2020 14:58

Yes. My RA always flares in the heat. I have prickly heat. Haven't slept properly for days. Don't want ant food. Keep getting headaches. I am not well at all. I just can't cope with heat and was the same as a child. Dry heat isn't so bad, it is the humidity

Holothane · 10/08/2020 15:02

I hate it now I just cook as I call it, being menapausal is hell, in the winter I cook with heating on as well.

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 15:14

Can you imagine living in this heat all the time - working, commuting... 🥵

I did!

I think the difference is that often it isnt the same sort of heat and humidity.

It particularly harsh atm.

Plus when you live and work in hot countries you generally don't have carpeted buildings, no air con etc etc.

HeronLanyon · 10/08/2020 15:45

Flat in old building in central London here. NOT FUN !

My kitchen (full sun most of day) is like a furnace.

All sun facing windows shut and blackout blinds down as soon as (before) it is hotter out than in. Not opened until evening.

My life savers -
Living in loose cotton boxer shorts (whilst inside) !
North facing rooms and minimal physical activity.
Water in fridge.
No alcohol.
Cool rinse off shower during day.
Fan.
Light food.

Wish the thunderstorms would turn south east - although have seen news of power cuts etc so maybe not.

I hate it, feel awful. I’m very dark skinned and everyone expects me to love it.

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 15:50

itsgettingweird - I dunno - I’ve been to places that are ‘king hot and it’s relentless... hot heat, dry heat, humid heat - it’s all horrible for me! I was so hot last year (in Washington) I actually thought my eyeballs were going to melt. I spoke to a guy who lived there and he told me that his dad had visited the year before (from and lives in the ME) and said ‘are you trying to kill me with this heat???’. It’s ok if you are on holiday, don’t crisp like bacon, and don’t have a 9-5 to manage but, bleugh. No thanks.

Ouch. That's an offensive stereotype. Thanks

Sorry you're feeling crap in this too.

PollyPelargonium52 · 10/08/2020 15:54

Buy Dioralyte and drink a sachet in water as it replaces any lost electrolytes. It really helps aches and pains and or fatigue from perspiration in the heat.

SeasideMaiden · 10/08/2020 15:57

@YgritteSnow it gives me panic attacks as well.

I'm being investigated for POTS but something has made me like this. I've never managed heat. But I can't do anything over 18°. For me, 18° is the top of my warmth capacity.

I have to have the windows open all year round. My partner (and every ex, ever) hates it.

I don't regulate my temperature at all, and pass out, puke, get the shits (probably because of anxiety about fainting and not being able to eat properly), sweat profusely, have headaches, lethargy, and a lot of pain in my joints and my hypermobility goes haywire.

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 16:05

I actually feel like I am cooking. My hands are swollen like a pack of walls sausages at the moment and I just feel sticky all over. My parents both loved the heat.

Immigrantsong · 10/08/2020 16:06

Present.

I hate it. Bring on the rain.

GreyGardens88 · 10/08/2020 16:07

Yes, and I've just got back from Italy where it's been similar weather all last week. A couple of days ago I started feeling tired, achy, nauseous. I was worried I was getting corona until I realised it was definitely the heat and dehydration!

I've always sweated a lot and I need to be constantly drinking in this weather

SerenityNowwwww · 10/08/2020 16:08

DH loves it. He thinks it’s just nice right now. That man has no blood...

IlanaWexler · 10/08/2020 16:13

Try being 33 weeks pregnant and looking after a sweaty sleep-deprived 18 month old. It is not fun!!

Hippofrog · 10/08/2020 16:16

The heat gives me a dodgy stomach, does anyone else suffer this way?

CherryValanc · 10/08/2020 16:16

I think you all need to move to Ireland. I've a hoodie on and it's raining (again).

I was talking on Skype to someone in the UK just. They were quite hot and sweaty and have to say i'd quite like some of the sun and heat. (But not too much, I'm not used to it and would struggle Grin).

DominaShantotto · 10/08/2020 16:20

It's more bearable since we bought an air con unit for the bedroom - I can cope with it if I've had a decent night's sleep.

Soubriquet · 10/08/2020 16:22

I hate it too

I can’t sleep unless I take sedatives and I’m useless without sleep

I get headachy and grumpy

And I have no appetite either

DDemelza · 10/08/2020 16:24

I drank a load of water and now I feel sweaty, lethargic, braindead AND water-logged.Wink

weareyoung · 10/08/2020 16:41

Oh god I'm so thankful for this thread, but sorry to everyone who is suffering.

I just cannot function in this heat. My body doesn't know what to do with itself.

Sloth66 · 10/08/2020 16:57

Desperately hoping for thunderstorms and heavy rain.
This weather is my nightmare, I loathe the heat and humidity, I feel tired and have no energy. The only comfort I have is that nights are slowly drawing in and September is round the corner.
