Who wants a guess (for fun) whether I will get kept in hospital

and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

When you go out later grab yourself some actimel or something. Will help with the nausea .
Your gut will be all buggered up with the antibiotics.

Haggisfish · 28/07/2020 09:51

Ooft. Poor you.

notangelinajolie · 28/07/2020 09:55

Hope today is the day when it starts to get better.
Are you still having the online GP appointment? I think I'd be inclined to speak to my own GP after this for a) some reassurance b) a plan B incase this doesn't go away that preferably doesn't involve urgent care c) to ask all those questions you probably forgot to ask last night.

This.

Just one other thing @LaurieFairyCake - please do pay heed.

Get the “nuisance to the NHS” thing out of your head now.

In other countries they pay health insurance and that’s why the culture of “being a nuisance” and “overstretch ing busy services” isn’t really a thing.

WE pay health insurance, albeit via taxes for a National Health Service for all. So don’t think you’re undeserving or a pest, if you’ve worked ever in your life then you’ve paid your way; and probably for others less fortunate too.

In the nicest way, enough with the martyrdom and be careful, popping antibiotics (especially fluoccxicillin) is risky.

Ps the antibiotic you’ve been given most recently has nausea as a side effect and is likely to turn your guts upside down, just be aware.

Lecture over, sorry, I just get so antsy when people who clearly need help don’t take it because they believe they will singlehandedly reduce our services to rubble.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 28/07/2020 11:07

Dont hesitate to go to the other hospital if its not getting better OP. You absolutely arent wasting time, a swelling thats closing your eye is dangerous and you are also at risk of sepsis.

Have they done any bloods? Or any iv antibiotics? Have they given you any cause? Its all very well to say its not cellulitis but what is it then? They are clearly saying theres a collection of pus in your face if they think it can be drained but not taking any bloods?

What the dr is saying doesnt make sense, you dont need to wait for the swelling to get softer to drain it. Swellings that need draining are firm.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2020 11:54

They haven't done any tests, just touched it

It's already less painful Smile and it's less swollen as I can firstly touch it and secondly, the skin isn't so stretched now

He's given me 10 days antibiotics and was very clear if it didn't get better that I was to go to another (London) hospital

I cancelled my GP appointment as I'm going to bed this afternoon and it was bang in the middle of my sleeping time - I've got work tonight and I've got to be better rested for that.

I've eaten some toast and that's definitely helped

I hope you're fast asleep by now Laurie

Hopefully the combination of needs will kick it in the arse and within the next few day you will be feeling better or at least better than now.

JaneyJimplin · 28/07/2020 13:23

Hopefully these new antibiotics keep working and you're better asap

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 28/07/2020 20:35

How are you feeling this evening? Hope it's much better.

ScarlettDarling · 28/07/2020 20:41

Fingers crossed for a rapid recovery now you're hopefully on the right antibiotics 🤞

Rebelwithallthecause · 28/07/2020 20:43

Sounds like possible cellulitis
Possible caused by mystery infected tooth

Rebelwithallthecause · 28/07/2020 20:44

Oh shit sorry didn’t read the thread first

Haggisfish · 28/07/2020 21:32

Oh fingers crossed hey are working then. It’s amazing how quickly they do work if they are the right ones.

littlefireseverywhere · 29/07/2020 22:55

How are you doing today?

Estrellente · 30/07/2020 13:44

I don’t know why “mystery infected tooth” made me laugh as much as it did... it sounds like a really shit ride Grin

How are you Laurie?

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 30/07/2020 13:48

hedgehogger1 · 30/07/2020 21:14

lborgia · 31/07/2020 02:46

She was on the London thread, so I am assuming all is wellWine

hedgehogger1 · 31/07/2020 20:32
