and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

Your GP is probably concerned it is a dental infection that could lead to sepsis.

I had the same once. Woke up and one half of my face was swollen to twice the size and I could barely move it because of the inflammation. No pain. Anti-histamines didn't work. A&E gave me antibiotics, did bloods, had a neurologist check for Bell's Palsy (it wasn't, I could move my face, just not much because of the swelling). Nothing showed up in the bloods so they sent me home and by bedtime everything was back to normal.

I woke up one morning a couple of years ago with a very swollen and painful side of my face. Got sent to MIU, GP then A & E (took around 8 hours in total) to be told it was a swollen lymph node, given 2 weeks of antibiotics, bloods taken and told to see my own GP in 7 days.

I felt very tired/run down for a few days, and the swelling took around a week to entirely go. Never had it again.

IhateBoswell · 25/07/2020 13:35

Hmm, could be hamster cheek syndrome 🤔

Hope all is well, I’m sure it will be fine.

CommunistLegoBloc · 25/07/2020 13:37

Periorbital cellulitis?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:38

Farkin hell ShockShockShock

I'm not googling any of those - wtf is HAMSTER CHEEK SYNDROME !!!

I've got work tomorrow, it better be gone by then.

Although it is really weird to see no wrinkles under my eye as it's all puffed out Wink

My hairdresser had this...a hair had gone in through her skin!!! The reaction was horrendous! Have you recently had hair cut or could be animal hair if you have pets?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:40

I had my hair cut 2 weeks ago

I would put money on the outcome being, whether your bloods show any sign of a bacterial infection or not, you will be sent home with a shedload of precautionary antibiotics and instructions to come back if things get worse.

I was also going to say that after a long wait to be triaged in A&E, you will be sent to see a GP in Urgent Care where you will have another long wait to be triaged again before you even start the long wait to see said GP. I see that has already happened though.

Thislittlelady · 25/07/2020 13:42

Allergy?????? Sending hugs 🤗

Babymamamama · 25/07/2020 13:43

Don't know if you will stay in hospital but it sounds like you're where you need to be. My prediction is : no going to work for you tomorrow....

AudTheDeepMinded · 25/07/2020 13:43

OP You'd better not disappear without giving us your diagnosis when you get it.

SandysMam · 25/07/2020 13:43

Worth mentioning. I think the cut hairs are super sharp and can pass into the skin without noticing but then cause infection.
Might be something else entirely though. Hope you feel better soon!

WTF

(Never cuts own fringe again)

Thislittlelady · 25/07/2020 13:47

Did you bite a wasp in your sleep? Sinus infection?? Don’t do cricket sorry, can’t update you..... tho you could sit and quietly diagnose what the other patients have, just for fun to pass the time?..

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2020 13:48

I had that once. Looked like a huge bruise. It was the day after when swelling went down you could see the head of a bite!
DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/07/2020 13:50

Doesnt sound like the right location for saliva glad

Could be facial cellulitis, is it definitely not dental? Could be like an infected cyst or something from your nose

Regulus · 25/07/2020 13:51

I also know someone who had a hair burrow into their back and then wrap itself around the spinal cord. They had an operation to remove it Envy really not envy.

Hamster cheek syndrome is a good call that or chipmunk cheek?

Hope you get sorted soon.

AnnaMariaDreams · 25/07/2020 13:51

Are you sure it isn’t dental? Have you had x Rays?
My first guess was parotid gland but it will track behind your ear and raise your earlobe. Under eye not so much.

AudTheDeepMinded · 25/07/2020 13:51

something from your nose
anyone else imagining malevolent nose creatures on the attack now?

thegcatsmother · 25/07/2020 13:54

Shingles...dh woke up one morning with his eyes and cheek swollen up. He was off work for a month.

SunnyDeeeee · 25/07/2020 13:55

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:58
