Who wants a guess (for fun) whether I will get kept in hospital

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:04

and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

And 4 more people have turned up

As soon as someone is called (hopefully its you) but if its not, say how you feel and ask if they have your name

NicAndNick · 28/07/2020 02:17

Fingers crossed you get seen soon. Other people might be going in first as they've been triaged to see the nurse practitioner rather than the GP.

If you've been there a while and you're feeling worse let someone know. Hope you get seen soon.

And to play the game I think they'll keep you in for IV antibiotics!

Sounds like it's a shift change like you thought earlier.
Poor you, you must be exhausted. Hold on in there.

YerAWizardHarry · 28/07/2020 02:20

Was expected some sort of resolution after 12 pages! Can't believe how long you've been sat without any communication

8T8w · 28/07/2020 02:22

Well I'm hoping the GP will say he's doubling the dose of the antibiotics as I'm only on 3 times 500mg a day and the maximum is almost 3 times that.

But 30g of a different antibiotic could be twice the strength of the one you are taking (as an example) bigger numbers on medications don't necessarily mean stronger, better, faster or more effective.

agonyauntie2020 · 28/07/2020 02:24

I think they will keep you in and I agree some sort of infection of the skin like staph or something. It's probably been said before (sorry I read all your posts but not the whole thread) but doubling your antibiotics won't have helped if they were the wrong antibiotics. I would be knocking on those doors saying you felt worse if I were you.

Fingers crossed for you OP. When they get the right antibiotics you'll get better really quickly I bet.

Splitsunrise · 28/07/2020 02:25

You don’t know nausea is from tiredness, I would tell them anyway to be sure. You also said you felt hot. Don’t doubt yourself Flowers

Alwaysinpain · 28/07/2020 02:32

Wow I can't believe they've left you completely unsupervised when there's a risk of Sepsis. This is an absolute neglect of care.

Are you ok OP?? @LaurieFairyCake ThanksGin

managedmis · 28/07/2020 02:33

Omfg what a pillock you are

Glad you're back

8T8w · 28/07/2020 02:44

@NancyNoNickers

Jeepers that looks mental, are you not afraid of it munching up your eye and never being able to see again!Shock
Well said!!

I know I'm behind here, but need to tell the OP that losing you eyesite is not an outcome you'd enjoy living with (I know you've now gone back, but for next time you don't listen to the doctor, keep reading!)

I was told many years ago I had a medical condition. Noone explained it to me, it didn't seem that important (they would have explained it, if it was, surely ((?)) or so I thought).

I trundled on from 1998. By 2015 I had a now progressive neurological disease caused by the initial shit-show, followed pretty quickly by being registered blind. All because I did not understand, I didn't think to ask and no one explained it, or how easy it was to treat.

In your case they said GO BACK.... etc. And you didn't.

Please follow the docs advice - don't put yourself at risk of losing you sight, having it affect your brain or other bits of you. It's no fun being housebound due to vision loss and neuro stuff that could have been avoided.

Hope the docs are sorting you out (all telling you off 😊) and just remember me saying to you "listening to mumsnet in a Stephen Hawkins voice is not much fun!"

friskybivalves · 28/07/2020 02:47

Laurie I'm awake. Is everything ok? Have you finally been seen?

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2020 02:53

I've been seen

Got new drugs, a different antibiotic. Flu-thingy mentioned earlier.

Not cellulitis or preceptal as he said it's just the pressing on the eye that's hurting and not eye movement

He said one of two things would happen on the new drug

  1. It goes away completely
  2. It softens and needs drained

And if it needs draining not to come back here but to go to a hospital with a maxi facial unit

I'm now waiting for Dh to come and take me home to bed

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2020 02:55

He's also said if he were me he'd take both of the antibiotics - so I'm going to finish the others too

OP posts:
BlackeyedSusan · 28/07/2020 02:58

hope it goes down soon and they work.

friskybivalves · 28/07/2020 02:58

Oh thank goodness. And I very much hope didn't make you feel dumb for going back. Did they have any clue as to what 'it' actually is??? An abscess of some vile kind presumably.

8T8w · 28/07/2020 02:59

Can you call your husband, tell him how bad you feel and ask him to phone the department you're in now. I did this once for me ex-husband when he was alone in A&E and scared.

8T8w · 28/07/2020 03:00

Pleased you've been seen and sorted.

managedmis · 28/07/2020 03:09

Hope you're feeling better soon Laurie

AntiSocialDistancer · 28/07/2020 04:25

Ah so glad you've been seen again, and proved not to be wasting yours and docs time. It looks awful! Flowers

Good luck with new ABs.

tobee · 28/07/2020 05:34

Hope you're home and resting up @LaurieFairyCake! Rest up watching the/listening to TMS cricket tomorrow hoping it won't get rained ☔️ off again!

MrsMozartMkII · 28/07/2020 06:49

So glad you went back.

Hopefully the combination will work and it'll bob off.

homemadecommunistrussia · 28/07/2020 06:59

Poor fairycake sounds like a rough night.take good care of yourself.Cake

NancyNoNickers · 28/07/2020 07:31

Gosh hope you’re having a well deserved sleep now. What an horrendous night.Hope the antibiotics kick in fast.

LaurieFairyCake · 28/07/2020 08:27

Mmm ... 3 hours sleep, I feel great 😏

Got to take the dog to vet for vaccinations or I would still be asleep. But I will be back in bed by 11am.

The swelling has stopped growing, I didn't wake up with my eye engulfed like I've done the last 2 days.

I feel sick from the antibiotics and lack of sleep though.
