and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

Allergic reaction to something? My face did this a few times when I was younger, skin would also feel 'bumpy'. Never did find out what was causing it but antihists worked.
Based on my experiences I think they may test you, find nothing of note, shrug and send you home with instructions to come back if gets worse?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:14

Never been allergic to anything
And no new things in my skin care/washing/food
I took anti histamines and anti inflammatory over the last 36 hours and no effect

If you have any underlying conditions they think could be related, then yes.

Have you a temp, or any other symptons?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:17

Ooh a flag planter Grin

There's about 20 people in front of me I think so it's quite busy

I'm missing the cricket 🏏 and I need a cup of tea

womaninatightspot · 25/07/2020 13:17

Sure it's not mumps? My sister had it as an adult despite being vaccinated as a child and one side of her face ballooned up. Other side never did.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:18

37.6 temp when I came in (was taken outside)

After a quick google I've diagnosed you with pre-eclampsia, hth?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:19

Not pregnant GrinGrinGrin

Hmmm no pain in lymph nodes on side of face - that would be probably with mumps?

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:21

Blocked saliva gland. This happened to me a few years ago.

CommunistLegoBloc · 25/07/2020 13:22

I predict they will put one of those pink cannulas in the crook of your arm, in just the right position to stop you using it properly but not badly placed enough that they'll do anything about it.

Poor puffyface.

CommunistLegoBloc · 25/07/2020 13:22

(all out for 369, lunch)

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/07/2020 13:24

Blocked or infected saliva gland

If blocked then no, if infected maybe but with that temp unlikely

BellaVida · 25/07/2020 13:25

Obstruction in the parotid gland?

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 25/07/2020 13:26

Depends where its swollen as well, if its anwhere near your airway

itsgettingweird · 25/07/2020 13:27

Mumps or blocked saliva gland.

Mumps - probably come home.

Blocked gland - dependent on if infected and type of infection and if you need IV antibiotics.

Northernsoullover · 25/07/2020 13:28

I'm going for blocked salivary gland too. You'll be home if it is.

fairydustandpixies · 25/07/2020 13:29

Bubonic plague???

lyralalala · 25/07/2020 13:31

I had a massive infection in my wisdom tooth once, but with no pain. Though no temp makes infection less likely

ThenSheSaidMore · 25/07/2020 13:31

Do you get cold sores? I know someone who has them and once the infection spread up in to one side of their face and made it swell up. No pain though.

ClashCityRocker · 25/07/2020 13:32

Yep they'll stick a cannula in you.

And then send you home.

But you'll have to wait until they take the cannula out. So it'll be another four hours yet.

Seriously, hope it's nothing bad.

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:32

I don't get cold sores
No wisdom teeth left
The nurse said no to lymph node swelling

I've now been sent to Urgent care (was triaged at A and E)
