Who wants a guess (for fun) whether I will get kept in hospital

and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

Well I'm hoping the GP will say he's doubling the dose of the antibiotics as I'm only on 3 times 500mg a day and the maximum is almost 3 times that.

Which is why I've already doubled the dose Grin hoping that by tomorrow I will have had 3 doses of the doubled dose and it will have started to touch it

Yes, swabs is when they can get at the infection. I said that to show that infections are caused by different bacteria.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:52

It does make sense to double the dose doesn't it?

As it's still not the maximum dose?

I'm well aware that when the doc saw me on Saturday it was about a third of the swelling it is now so it seems he was understandably cautious with the dose

Fgs the A&E doctor was pretty clear to come back if it got worse but without any medical qualifications you’ve decided to double the dose?!

Sorry OP but......I’m not trying to be horrible but you’re not being very sensible!

Splitsunrise · 27/07/2020 21:53

From NHS website

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:54

I realise it sounds like I'm being an idiot but I really don't want to time waste

If a double dose does something then I'm pretty sure my online GP will be glad I've not wasted A and E time with a stupid infection

BearySad · 27/07/2020 21:54

By doubling the dose you will not have a full course

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:56

I will get a full course if my GP gives me more tomorrow

And if you lose some sight, get infection in brain or otherwise seriously harm yourself you may regret not taking the very clear medical advice.
Stop being a numpty!!!

Splitsunrise · 27/07/2020 21:58

That’s because you are being an idiot, OP... (No offence Grin ) we’re all idiots sometimes and I know you’re trying not to be a pain going to A&E but really you have to be responsible and do what the doctor there instructed you to do. You shouldn’t be making medical decisions which could harm you..

BlueLagoona · 27/07/2020 21:58

I know technically you shouldn’t double doses. BUT...every time I’ve had an infection and been put on amoxicillin (mainly for recurrent severe throat infections as a teen) and it failed to work, the first thing the GP always did was whack the dosage up for a few days. Then if it still didn’t touch it I’d be switched to a different one.

If the op is only on a relatively low dose already I can’t see what harm it would do seeing as that’s likely what the hospital would do anyway.

Splitsunrise · 27/07/2020 21:59

And it’s by your eye, you really don’t want to be messing around with problems in that area as you could end up with permanent sight problems

Pieceofpurplesky · 27/07/2020 22:00

OP you really need to listen to what people are telling you

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 22:02

I swear if I posted this as a new issue hundreds of people would say don't waste A and E's time Grin

I'm going to attach a photo of the swelling

I think you’re being stupid.

MrsMozartMkII · 27/07/2020 22:03

It's by your eye.

It's pretty damn close to your brain.

Doc said go back if it got worse...

It got significantly worse.

I'm in no way medical, but really, go back to A&E!

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 27/07/2020 22:04

Please go back. I recently had a weird face swelling. Walk in thought mumps so I went home to wait it out. Ended up in hospital for 3 weeks with 2 surgeries cutting me ear to ear. If I had gone back sooner it may not have got so bad

Splitsunrise · 27/07/2020 22:05

Post it as a new thread then, but I think you’d get the same result...

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 22:05

What did you have ?ShockShockShock

OP posts:
MsEllany · 27/07/2020 22:06

Go to A&E you absolute fool.

I don’t know why you’re not.

Nousernameforme · 27/07/2020 22:07

Do you have a pic of what it looked like earlier?
Honestly they said if it gets worse go back and it's got worse so you should go back.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 27/07/2020 22:07

Um, you really need to go back. ASAP!

NancyNoNickers · 27/07/2020 22:08

Jeepers that looks mental, are you not afraid of it munching up your eye and never being able to see again!Shock

homemadecommunistrussia · 27/07/2020 22:09

The dr at he online appointment tomorrow will probably send you back to the hospital for more tests anyhow. You are just delaying the inevitable.

Hendersonsisnotrelish · 27/07/2020 22:10

I had a bad reaction to a strep a infection. Very rare I think. I'm young and otherwise healthy. Don't assume you will be ok
