Who wants a guess (for fun) whether I will get kept in hospital

LaurieFairyCake · 25/07/2020 13:04

and obviously lighthearted as probably not going to die

I'm in A and E
Sent by my GP
As my face on one side has swollen up very badly
Gp said he was worried about sepsis
Definitely wanted a blood test
Said I probably needed IV antibiotics

No itching so not been bitten
No tooth/gum problems
No ones punched me Grin

Guesses?

Justnotfeelingit · 26/07/2020 09:25

Are you on your way back?

Broomfondle · 26/07/2020 09:59

Sorry not read your full thread, re-septal/orbital cellulitis? Have you had your eye looked at?

Eyes and brains are just a bit too important to take the risk with. Hope it’s all alright.

MoreCookiesPlease · 26/07/2020 11:15

Oh you poor thing! I hope you're on your way back in and being seen soon.

hedgehogger1 · 26/07/2020 12:04

Did you go back OP?

Smidge001 · 27/07/2020 21:19

@LaurieFairyCake hi OP. Are you OK? Have the Antibiotics started to take effect? Are you back in hospital? Hope you've had some improvement

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:32

I haven't gone back and it's got worse and worse - now a big, rock hard lump under eye and along cheek bone. I'm sleeping lots as I guess trying to fight it off.

I have an online doctors appointment tomorrow and I've doubled the antibiotic dose as it wasn't touching it

Thanks for asking Smile

OP posts:
Clovertoast · 27/07/2020 21:37

Why wouldn't you go back when the A and E doc SPECIFICALLY told you to go back if it got worse. It sounds significantly worse and you are sleeping a lot.
You're being ridiculous and playing a risky game. Go back !!!!

picklemewalnuts · 27/07/2020 21:39

If it's the wrong antibiotic it won't touch it no matter how much you take!

ShockShockShockShock

Get back to hospital!

picklemewalnuts · 27/07/2020 21:39

Do you live with anyone?

AngelaScandal · 27/07/2020 21:41

I’m no doctor but you should really be in hospital...

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:41

I don't understand, what makes it the wrong one Confused

How would they know?

OP posts:
PeanutButterKid · 27/07/2020 21:41

bloody hell. I hope you don't get worse by morning.

You may win sporners corner if you are so inclined.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:42

There's no pus at all I don't think

OP posts:
chatterbugmegastar · 27/07/2020 21:42

I think you should go to A & E if it's got worse

picklemewalnuts · 27/07/2020 21:45

Laurie, there are lots of different antibiotics that target different infections.

That's why they take swabs, to identify what the infection is. So, you're given an 'all purpose, good bet' antibiotic, but if you don't respond you have to take something that's more specific to the infection you have.

Username6345789 · 27/07/2020 21:45

Periorbital cellulitis? If so I suspect you will need a stronger antibiotic and likely the first/first couple of doses given IV

Lookyloo · 27/07/2020 21:46

You don't just double antibiotic doses lol. How are you now?

AngelaScandal · 27/07/2020 21:46

Antibiotics target different bacteria. If your bugs aren’t covered then they won’t work.

But your eyes and brain @LaurieFairyCake, eyes and brain.

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:46

It has got much worse but hasn't got worse than that since yesterday afternoon if you know what I mean?

Also the doctor told me to watch out for loads of other symptoms - nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, rapid heart rate, raised temperature, rash - all indicated for cellulitis, sepsis Etc - I've got NONE of them

And also somewhat ridiculously, EVERY time I've gone back to A and E for the second time I've miraculously got better and felt like a complete time waster - so I keep delaying it so I'm really SURE.

OP posts:
picklemewalnuts · 27/07/2020 21:47

The only medic to examine it said 'come back if it gets bigger'. He didn't say, go to bed, try and ignore it, you may be able to get to a GP later in the week.

What do you think a GP will do that the hospital hasn't already done?

LaurieFairyCake · 27/07/2020 21:47

They didn't take swabs - there's nothing to take swabs of - it's all inside

OP posts:
SummerPeony · 27/07/2020 21:48

Oh please don’t double antibiotic doses, they can’t be tweaked like that, you could be doing yourself more damage. You need to go back to a and e as you were told by the dr!

picklemewalnuts · 27/07/2020 21:49

Ok, I get that logic- a bit. It's not continuing to get worse.
