When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

Aw this thread is making me proper nostalgic. Can I travel back in time and share some ciggies (and whatever else) with a pal at the Arches. Or go and snog some random boys at the garage. I feel so old

okiedokieme · 26/06/2020 22:23

Bobby Browns and the Dome in Birmingham!

Ginfordinner · 26/06/2020 22:23

TheSimpleThings17 · 26/06/2020 22:24

Mid to late 90’s...Moneypenny’s in Birmingham for ‘proper’ clubbing or Bobby Browns or Liberty’s for drinking and posing - God those were the days, take me back!

whiteroseredrose · 26/06/2020 22:27

Manchester, early 1980s.

Pips (behind the Cathedral)
Legends
Berlin
Hacienda

TheSimpleThings17 · 26/06/2020 22:28

@kelper Dukes in Chelmsford! Had an Essex friend I used to visit and (vaguely) remember some fun times had there!

Bellaboo9 · 26/06/2020 22:28

Loved the clubbing days.

Late 90's onwards in Manchester. Started at Bowlers, Hacienda, Home. Bit of a break then Eden in Bolton, 2risque at North, Venus at Club V, Sankeys soap and Tangled. Odd night at Hidden in Birmingham.

For pure drunken cheese Fridays Blush

Now love the hacienda classical nights but that's about it now. The youngsters on my team at work don't think a middle aged over weight woman was ever a raver and look at me like Hmm

@GuiltyPleasure

1980's Leeds, The Phono & Warehouse. Golden days of Goth.
Ahh, me too. Great memories Smile
TheMostHappy · 26/06/2020 22:31

You lot were all missing a trick - Swansea was the place to be early noughties - Time and Envy, Jumpin Jacks, Wind St.... down the Mumbles, I think it was Cinderella's right at the end. Happy times. GrinHaloGlitterball

FrankiesKnuckle · 26/06/2020 22:31

YY to quite a few mentioned in London - gardening club, leisure lounge and Camden palace.
I was a raver first did nights at the marquee club then onto Astoria for the breakfast club.
Travelled out to the sanctuary in MK or Lydd for the World Dances.
Then went proper house and love a bit of trance.

I've been to quite a few 'reunions' in the last 3/4 years - Clockwork orange and some monumental Peach reunions - I still love raving!

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/06/2020 22:32

Nut House, crowland road, Tottenham 88/89. I still owe Bushwhacka (Matthew B) £5. God know what the interest would be in that. Sorry matty.

MarshaBradyo · 26/06/2020 22:34

Melbourne, ‘earth Cote’ raves but mostly London secret raves with notices on Berwick
St

Hardly any established clubs, reading through names - a few of the East End ones mentioned (93 feet east)

CherryPavlova · 26/06/2020 22:35

Gross just imagining those days. Sticky floors, sleazy rough men who thought they were more irresistible than they were, choking on cigarette smoke. Thanet night clubs were extremely rough in hindsight, but the idea of being terribly grown up appealed. Too many Southern Comfort and cokes followed by kebabs chilli sauce. Revolting.
London club’s were a bit classier but still full of sleazy men thinking girls twenty years their junior might find their wallets attractive. I think I stopped going at about 21.
I did go to a hen night in Camberley when I was about 27. I felt ancient. It was awful. Same sleaze. Same sticky floors. Music too loud for conversation. Just boring. Never again.

@LolaLollypop

Oooh great thread! My raving career started mainly with hardcore and d&b - Slammin Vinyl, United Dance, Dreamscape. Always loved a bit of garage too so done a lot of Garage nation / Cookies and Cream etc. Moved onto Hard House - Peach, Frantic, Hard House Academy. Does anyone remember the Purple turtle in Camden? What a place! Then onto more "mature" house and techno Grin. Spent many many nights in Fabric, The End, Ministry of Sound, The Key, The Cross, Egg and many afterparties at various grimey venues. Spent every holiday in Ibiza from the age of 18-35 Blush going for the opening and closing parties. Actually i haven't really stopped going to Ibiza, just had a couple of years off to have babies.

Tbh I still am a clubber. Age is just a number. Not sure when I'll be back out next though! The virus might have finally killed the clubbing scene.

I also loved Slammin Vinyl, United Dance, Hardcore Heaven. I was gutted when the Sanctuary in MK closed to be turned into a football stadium and IKEA!

We then started going to Hardcore Til I Die, from the beginning at Air in Birmingham

As we lived in London we also went to the Fridge (Escape from Samsara), Mass, Torture Garden, Frantic, Logic and yes to the Purple Turtle and Egg!

I miss those days, I never feel that carefree now. Part of it because I have a daughter, and part because I have a sensible job now so never drop everything and jump in the car wearing a sparkly crop top and hot pants these days!!

BogRollBOGOF · 26/06/2020 22:36

Nottingham around the millenium
The Cookie Club (the original tiny place and the newer venue)
Rock City/ The Rig
The Irish
(Student Unions)
Ocean
The Palais
I think I went to Faces once, too RnB for me.

I went to a few in Birmingham too but don't remember the names. Some of DB's old haunts have been mentioned.

YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 22:36

Teens I lived in Germany so I doubt any of you would have heard of the clubs I went to then but they were massive out there.

Back in the U.K. 1995-2001

Nottingham - The Bomb, Cafe Metz, The Monastry, Beatroot, The Cookie Club, The Lizard Lounge. Black Orchid/Isis occasionally. Plus there was a small town club locally that we loved but it was very cheesy Smile

2020times · 26/06/2020 22:36

@iklboo - yes to those.

Oh Fab Cafe .. you seem a million years ago ...

YgritteSnow · 26/06/2020 22:39

Cross post @BogRollBOGOF. I wondered if there'd be any other Notts clubbers on here Grin

Manchester/N E Cheshire 1980s. I had my first kiss at Rotters, a few days before my 15th birthday. I've never been asked for ID ever, including age 14. Sounds shocking now but it was all very innocent.

Very fond memories of the Queensgate, Alderley Edge, also Yesterdays. Used to dance all night, one drink only, often midweek whilst in sixth form. Don't tell my kids!

IckyPop · 26/06/2020 22:43

Missanneshirley · 26/06/2020 22:44

@soloula

Mid to late 90s Glasgow we used to follow the student deals so...

Tuesday - Reds
Wednesday - Club X
Thursday - The Tunnel or The Barony at Strathclyde
Friday - The Tunnel
Saturday - Archaos

Then early 00s it was the Garage and the Cathouse.

Soloula you forgot Monday nights at the Boat 🤣(Tuxedo Princess)!
