When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

I was always more into gigs and festivals, but god, some of those nights at The Orbit in Morley...

Rollergirl11 · 26/06/2020 21:38

@lombi the club in Holborn, was it Paddocks? Where Clockwork Orange was?

Yes used to go to all the Kings Cross venues, notably The Egg and The Key.

I think my absolute faves though were The Chemical Brothers night The Heavenly Social (which started at The Albany pub) at Turnmills which then became Headstart, Big Kahuna Burger that started at a place in Farringdon and then Bugged Out/Big Beat Boutique when it was at The End.

Also went out in east London a fair bit early 2000’s, 93 Feet East, Plastic People and The 333.

Ahhhhh, what I’d do to have another night out like that!

Loyaultemelie · 26/06/2020 21:44

Belfast early noughties

The Parliament, The M Club, Benedicts, Milk, The Kremlin, Robinson's, The Bot, Thompson's the sticky horror that was The Venue because it opened after hours

Occasional trips to Kelly's in Portrush that cost a fortune were looked forward to for weeks and were such a disappointment Grin

Murrfect · 26/06/2020 21:52

Escape to Samsara wow I was thinking about that the other day

And Mass and was it 414 in Brixton

333 in hoxton and other clubs there ... la Scalia? Heaven, does anyone remember a club just up from old Compton street... beginning with M...?

Plus clubs like Lost and Sunnyside up Metalheadz in Camden and does anyone remember events by groups like reclaim the streets and mean fiddler that just used to pop up?!

And with a different crowd cafe de Paris and China white... Notting Hill Arts

The problem is I can’t quite clearly remember about 5/6 years of my life

Oh n the first clubs were seeing people like Carl Cox n Sasha n John Digweed at places in the SW when Renaissance was released

Happy days....

TokyoSushi · 26/06/2020 21:56

Oh and Sunday night at The Liquid Room, Edinburgh, early 2000's

Ellomello · 26/06/2020 21:58

@howsicklyarsekissy how did I forget up yer Ronson! And Renaissance. Maybe not that surprising I forgot them thinking about it. Back to Basics was superb too.

Oly4 · 26/06/2020 21:59

HollysBush · 26/06/2020 22:01

Once I was a bit older and met my now DH, we used to go to a place called Bensons - looking back, it was absolutely shit!
God yes I remember the name Bensons but where abouts was it? Late 90s for me in Worthing so just missed out on Sterns/Mansion house. We loved Rutherfords on the end of the pier. Illusions by the station, Area 51 (now Majestic wine) The Church and The Factory I think it was called. Also several of the pubs would ramp it up Thurs, Fri and Sat nights with DJ and dance floors. The Wine Lodge, The Fountain, Thieves Kitchen.

CMOTDibbler · 26/06/2020 22:01

Cardiff, 91 through to 97. Tuesdays at the Hanging Gardens at the Union, Metros, Subways, Tuesday at Clwb Ifor Bach (dh used to DJ there), Bogiez. Anywhere rock/metal really

Any late 70's Bradford lasses here? Time and Place till 4am.

TheMurk · 26/06/2020 22:08

Mid 90s Glasgow - Volcano, Tunnel, Tin Pan Alley, Furys, the Boulie which was my local, and later on we got a bit more bougie and it was Velvet Rooms, Reds, Trash, Babaza, Cube, Subby. Then I got too old for it all.

PuppyMonkey · 26/06/2020 22:09

Nottingham in the late 80s / early 90s

Rock City
The Garage
Pieces
Venus

Also The Leadmill in Sheffield and The Hacienda in Manchester.

Happy days indeed.

New Cross 1992-1996

When the Venue was a venueWink

TheVanguardSix · 26/06/2020 22:12

The Limelight in New York, early 90s. I had a job which had me living between New York, London, Milan, and Paris. Loads of clubbing.
Les Bains Douche was the club to go to in Paris. It's now a hotel, I've heard.
In London; The Fridge, Ministry, Fabric, G-A-Y when it wasn't yet part of Heaven. I think... I don't know. I remember going to G-A-Y and Heaven at separate venues.
My favourite city to go clubbing in was Milan. Maybe it's because it's where I discovered clubbing and most of my really good friends were in that city. My nights out were proper nights out with loads of Italians. I fell asleep many times at dawn on the benches of Moscova station. I also fell asleep on many Paris market stall tables at around 3am (they'd be empty). I'd be woken at the crack of by the traders setting up. There is still, in my heart, no place more beautiful than Paris on a clear dawn in summer. Everything seems possible.

SlightyJaded · 26/06/2020 22:14

London - Mid/Late 80s early 90s.

Sort of in order and not complete:

Mud Club at Bagleys
Raw at Delirium
Crazy Larrys
Opera House at Astoria
Tripp at Astoria
then
Shoom
Spectrum at Heaven (all time favourite I think)
Clink Street
Apocalypse Now
Enter the Dragon
All the Sunrise Raves
All the energy Raves
All the Biology Raves
Unit 4 at Linford Studios
Loud Noise
Whirly Gig

Malibu Stacy at Hanover Grand
Aquarium
93 Feet East
Fabric
and
so on and so forth.

Now.
Tea, Netflix, Bed. But wouldn't change a minute of those messy nights (and days) including the hours spent on motorway service stations following a trail to a rave, for a minute.

Angelnix · 26/06/2020 22:15

Remember when The Dome was closed down and they reopened it as The Dome 2?! Brilliant!

Another early noughties Birmingham clubber here!

SlightyJaded · 26/06/2020 22:17

oh yes, forgot about Turnmills, The Key and The Egg. Also legends on Old Burlington Street - can't remember what the night was called.

But for me, nothing topped the proper early acid house club nights - Shoom/Spectrum/Trip etc.

LilBlackLab · 26/06/2020 22:18
