When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

The 90s and noughties!
Brighton. The event, the paradox, the zap club, the jazz rooms, casablancas, sometimes revenge, the gloucester for back 2 skool night, and dynamite boogaloo! I got so drunk in there once I was chucked out.
memories

@thesunwillout I moved to Plymouth in 1993 and lived there for 20 years. It was the clubscene that made me stay after I had finished my course at the college. Had quite a few years raving in Plymouth. Absolutley loved it.

drownininplaymobil · 28/06/2020 21:46

Started clubbing as a teenager in Leamington Spa at Mirage and Sugar.

Then went on holiday to Ibiza with mates when I was 18 and Privilege BLEW MY MIND!!!

Then Brighton for my uni days in the mid-noughties... Honey Club, Event 2, Creation, Zap, Casablanca.

Take me back!!!!

I came across this thread recently on google and have the following memories.

Les Tearooms des Artistes in Wandsworth - not clubbing per se but good for a night out - the very steep wooden staircase - yikes!

Cloud 9 - Fruity Fridays and Strawberry Sundaes - took my first E at Fruity Friday it was something else before I think, the name. Then progressed onto Turnmills by my best friend at the time, The Gallery, who told me I'd love it and then it was anything and everything from the End to The Cross, Renaissance at the Cross, the Medicine Bar in Upper Street for drinks before, also went to Gas club, Camden Palais, Purple Turtle, Bagleys, the one opposite Highbury & Islington tube - am also from near Croydon so used to go occasionally to Cinatras (a dive), Blue Orchid, Studio etc in teens and 20s there was Jazz which became Cinderella Rockerfellas (or other way round) in Purley Road and countless others, Ziggys in Streatham. One of my first 'clubs' was Colliseum in Vauxhall before it got glam - it had old school style tables a bit run down but was great, also did Wag, Brain etc.

Also went a few times when Brockwell Lido had a club and you could laze on sunloungers outside and with my R&B mates used to go to Ladbroke Grove to Subterranea but a bit strange for me when it finished at 1/2am latest.

The Zap club us london kids used to come down to occasionally when one of our mates was djing there!

I forgot - we used to go to the Fridge - Escape from Samsara but wasn't all trance, we used to go to Mass, one of my best mates started a club night called Nymph there and Milk n 2 Sugars guys were our mates. Always on guest list, paid for drinks and drugs but got those free most of the time too. Best mate's boyfriend was lawyer or something for MTV so source of guest list and freebies.

Does anyone recall a bar down the side of the big department store in Kensington High Street, not a club really but with dance floor downstairs it had a number for the name?

ScorpioSphinxInACalicoDress · 18/08/2020 11:29

I vaguely remember Millionaire. I was just thinking I'm probably the oldest on here!

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 18/08/2020 11:30

Scorpio l reckon l must have known you! They were my clubs.

👋🏻To all Hacienda people. Was there ever a better club than this? Despite it being freezing cold?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 18/08/2020 11:31

I recall about a year ago going to where Turnmills used to be (Farringdon) and almost sobbing when I saw it had been turned into flats! I worked just round the corner at a big 4 accountants otherwise rarely go that way these days.
needaMNnamegenerator · 18/08/2020 11:33

I really like the hacienda classical nights - old 90s house tunes played on an orchestra - everyone is my age and it only goes on for a few hours, at a reasonable hour too so I can be home by 11!

Wow, that sounds amazing! I want to go to this!

Haggisfish · 18/08/2020 11:41

Ah some fellow clubbers from Glasgow! Also
Mid-late nineties. I worked in trash and the cat house. Loved the art club optimo, arches, sub club, cotton club and all others mentioned. I found my calendar from second year and in June I had gone out every single night!! Couldn’t do that now!Grin

Mypersona, did you ever fall off the stage?😂

canigooutyet · 18/08/2020 11:56

Started in fields lol.
Many of the ones mentioned on here across the country. Ibiza in 1991. Four Aces in Dalston, Dungeons, various all dayers in Battersea. and Highbury. Camden Palace, Fridge, Bagleys, Warehouses, more fields, various forests, Utopia, Wag, various Thames parties, Playboy, Astoria, Cheekos,. Fantazia, Garage, Cream, Sunrise, Genesis, Raindance, Tribal, Perception, Visions, Eclispe, an airfield or two and many more I have forgotten.

One called basement or basebin. Might have just been base.

Went Ministry once totally overhyped.
Occasionally go back to the Aquarium.

When I started it was call this number wait further instructions, and follow the clues! The last rave I went to was about a year ago, totally illegal and follow the clues unless of course you know someone! It was amazing and proper old skool.

I still have fliers from back then, kept some of the clothing even when it didn't fit for years lol, and of course the records in various colours, some not even a white label on them.

One of my DD's went through a period of raving including various warehouses, office buildings etc. Took her with me last year and she wished she was alive back then as she loves old skool as do many of her mates.

14 year old is a natural born raver. and if it weren't for CV I could easily see him doing what I was doing at 14 and out following the clues.

MyPersona · 18/08/2020 11:58
