When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

Do the youths still go clubbing?

Stellabellawella · 26/06/2020 21:02

Passion at the Emporium, Leicestershire late 90s, early noughties. Every weekend. Amazing times. Now sat with a GnT watching ‘not going out’ how times change Grin

Fionplease · 26/06/2020 21:05

The tunnel, arches and of course for a cheap night out the garage.
Got to love Glasgow’s club scene from the 90’s!

Norwich, early 80s. Tudor Hall, Samson and Hercules, and the Jacquard Club if you were a bit edgy. Happy days.

Ludways · 26/06/2020 21:06

Primarily the NE early/mid 90's. Blue Monkey, After Dark but also the big raves Galactica, Rezerection etc. I used to trek all over the country though, Manchester, Donny Warehouse, Leeds, Manchester, Castle Donnington. Brilliant!

RainbowCookie · 26/06/2020 21:07

What do kids do these days? I have no idea - most of these brilliant venues - old cinemas, theatres, warehouses under railways arches have all been turned into fancy flats.
Even the pubs have turned into posh restaurants or converted into houses.

Sparklyring · 26/06/2020 21:07

Newcastle in the early noughties... Blu bambu, Mood, City Vaults, Ikon, Cosy Joes!

onemouseplace · 26/06/2020 21:12

Late 90s, Early 00s here - Escape from Samsara at The Fridge was my favourite in the late 90s when I was more into the trance/ techno side of things, then I got involved with someone who was into DnB so we started going more to Fabric, the End, Herbal , Rhythm Factory in Whitechapel etc. I was in South London at the time so "quieter" nights were at places like the Telegraph, the White Horse, Plan B, Bug Bar.

LolaLollypop · 26/06/2020 21:14

Oooh great thread! My raving career started mainly with hardcore and d&b - Slammin Vinyl, United Dance, Dreamscape. Always loved a bit of garage too so done a lot of Garage nation / Cookies and Cream etc.
Moved onto Hard House - Peach, Frantic, Hard House Academy. Does anyone remember the Purple turtle in Camden? What a place!
Then onto more "mature" house and techno Grin. Spent many many nights in Fabric, The End, Ministry of Sound, The Key, The Cross, Egg and many afterparties at various grimey venues.
Spent every holiday in Ibiza from the age of 18-35 Blush going for the opening and closing parties. Actually i haven't really stopped going to Ibiza, just had a couple of years off to have babies.

Tbh I still am a clubber. Age is just a number. Not sure when I'll be back out next though! The virus might have finally killed the clubbing scene.

howsicklyarsekissy · 26/06/2020 21:15

Ohhhhh love this. Vague at the warehouse in Leeds, up yer ronson, back to basics in Leeds. Renaissance derby. Hot to trot, ( monthly) Mansfield, Gatecrasher, Sheffield. Cream Liverpool, Sankeys soap Manchester. Had the time of my life!! Grin

katew355 · 26/06/2020 21:15

Late 90's for me:
Ikon or Athena in Bolton or Royales or Sanky soaps in Manchester. Lots of other dodgy places too!! X

katew355 · 26/06/2020 21:15

Sorry- Atlantis in Bolton x

Nonestopcaberet · 26/06/2020 21:17

Manchester in the late 80’s.
Left work on a Thursday night into the local wine bar. Taxi into Manchester to Fagins / Jillys, Rafters or 21 Piccadilly. Then onto Salford casino, straight back into work on Friday morning.

Fridays work output was ‘interesting’ shall we say!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 26/06/2020 21:17

Town and Country Club in Camden
Various small enterprises in Dalston and Hackney
Heaven in W1
The Dive Bar in W1

1986 to 1990 ish I guess

JW13 · 26/06/2020 21:18

Early 00s here. Mainly Turnmills, The Cross, the End, bagleys, the key, egg, Ministry, Camden Palace, nights in arches around Southwark. God I miss those days.

JW13 · 26/06/2020 21:19

Also outside of London... slinky in Bournemouth, godskitchen, Gatecrasher, garlands.
Festivals like Homelands and Global gathering.
Worked for 2 summers in Ibiza.

TragicRabbit · 26/06/2020 21:26

Early 90’s Bristol it was mainly Lakota (you could get curried goat upstairs if I’m remembering rightly) or free parties around St Paul’s and into Somerset.
I’m now seeing sunrises because I’m old and that’s when I get up

anxietrist · 26/06/2020 21:26

Oh hey @MrsJBaptiste I was waiting for leeds... there must be more of us.

GuiltyPleasure · 26/06/2020 21:26

1980's Leeds, The Phono & Warehouse. Golden days of Goth.

Futuremrs · 26/06/2020 21:27

@Trailing1

Birmingham. Broad street in its heyday, the Works, Reflex,Risa. The bars in the Arcadian used to be good to, Mono bar was my particular favourite and the Oceana nightclub on Hurst street. Funnily enough a few months ago I was relaying these memories to my younger colleagues (early 20s) and from what they were saying the Birmingham club scene is dead now.
Ahhh me too. add the dome to that and it was a good night. Early noughties.
TattiePants · 26/06/2020 21:30

@Ludways the Blue Monkey was the first club I went to in the early 90s aged 16 (when the door policy was a lot less strict than it is now). After that it was Ku Club, Annabels and Chambers.

Northernsoullover · 26/06/2020 21:30

Went to Venus in Nottingham, Cream in Liverpool and locally The Hippo Club and Emporium

Janaih · 26/06/2020 21:33

Helter skelter at sanctuary/rollers milton Keynes Smile
The manor, Bournemouth. Good times!

ShitUsername · 26/06/2020 21:37
@ShitUsername I’ve never been to The Arches but is that where Slam has a long-running night?
Yeah Slam and Pressure were the big ones I think

Toilenstripes · 26/06/2020 21:37

Washington DC in the 80s. Poseurs was the name of the only club we went to. And we were all serious posers. 😆
