When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

1980s northern so disco, garish cocktails, rara skirts & everything closed by 1am.

FairNotFair · 27/06/2020 18:50

@CMOTDibbler Yes! The Stage Door. Chilli, chips & cheese.

BeeyatchPlease · 27/06/2020 18:51

I began in early naughties in Glasgow.
Started off with the Garage The Shack and an odd jaunt to the cathouse.
I then progressed to The Arches (pressure and death disco were my favourite nights), The Sub Club, Soundhaus and Thursday night at The Art School was always a good shout. Random illegal raves in the tunnels under Kelvingrove on the odd occasion.
I couldn't hack it nowadays!

LinemanForTheCounty · 27/06/2020 19:11

Ah, this thread takes me back ... early 90s Camden Palace and Electric Ballroom. We actually chose our flat in Finsbury Park for proximity to the n29 bus stop! Snogging a boy at Feet First and my mate dragging me off him because he had a massive gash on his head, I was so wasted I hadn't even noticed, he said he'd fallen downstairs and he was so wasted he hadn't noticed himself that he was injured ... fucking hell, really. Late 90s Turnmills, Bagley's, mass and little pop up parties, I think they were in squats mostly but there was one in an actual mansion, somewhere North of London, St Alban's maybe but I suspect there aren't any mansions there ... it's all a bit hazy tbh ...

pollylocketpickedapocket · 27/06/2020 19:31

Love this thread! I'm 40 now and started in Manchester 96-99. Managed to catch the last few months of the hacienda also the boardwalk, holy city zoo, sankeys.
We used to travel out to the temple(Bolton), mr smiths and the world(Warrington) and Leeds, they were some great really late, actually early morning!
Angels(Burnley) monroes(Blackburn) and the glasshouse and cast loco(Leeds)

I move to London in 2000 and went to ministry, after all the ministry events in Manchester my 20 yo self had died and gone to heaven!! Also in London the coliseum in Vauxhall, bagleys, heaven, G.A.Y, Camden palace, turnmills.
Also does anyone remember scribbles old Kent rd? Dodgy place!!! But all in all great fun!
I'm very boring now and couldn't summon up the energy for a trip to the pub now but then days were amazing!

NeedToKnow101 · 27/06/2020 20:04

Just remembered Talkin' Loud daytime rare groove Sunday's at Dingwallls.. anyone go to them?

bitmynailbrokemytooth · 27/06/2020 20:06

Right well I'm ancient compared to most here. Late Eighties in Birmingham, the Powerhouse, Bobby Browns, the Dome, Edwards No. 8. Student nights mainly, cheap drinks and entry, used to see a lot of bands play at the Powerhouse including Julian Cope, the Primitives and the Alarm off the top of my head, there were others I'm sure.

Later had a boyfriend in Sheffield so the Leadmill. Weirdly went back in there a few years ago in my late forties for a colleague's 60th bash. Looked around at all the 'kids' in there. Got chatted up by one of them ( still got it ).

Crinkle77 · 27/06/2020 20:07

I started clubbing at 16 in 1993 in Liverpool. Went O51, buzz and garlands. Avoided Cream cos it was too commercialised for my liking. Kids today will just never have those experiences. Feel sorry for them.

SpiritEssence · 27/06/2020 20:09

Epping forest country club I loved going to in 90s and Hollywood and secrets in Ilford. All in Essex

DeegeeDee · 27/06/2020 20:54

Loving the thread and the C&S video was spot on. Others missed from the Birmingham lot is The Steering Wheel and The Nightingale in the early nineties. There was Hype which used to be a bank across the walkway near the Bullring. Saw Heather Small doing a PA one night, toilet floor swimming in liquid so never went back. Started out at Pagoda Park then The Dome for student nights plus Millionaires.

Always used to see older clubbers and wanted to be them, now I think they were superhuman or filled up on drugs as I need my bed by 10pm.

Beebityboo · 27/06/2020 20:59

Ooh I had a few nights out at the Nightingale in my time as well! And DV8, thursdays was a tenner in and free drinks all night. Queue was always so bad at the bar though that I usually only managed to get one or two Grin.

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 21:05

This made me nostalgic so I tried to find photos of Sherrys in Brighton and found this, there are a couple of the Brighton nightclub which then became the pink coconut.

TheHandStandBand · 27/06/2020 21:33

The venue New cross '96 onwards but really I was into indie then. We would go to somewhere in Streatham when I was into dance/ garage prob '99 / '00.

Or maybe Jazzmins in BROMLEY but we were a bit young to get in ! Ha ha

Some of mine from late 90s/early 00s:

Dartford - Zens, Fat Sams
Medway - Amadeus
Kingston - The Works, McCluskies, Oceana, Bacchus, Barcadis

Seriously79 · 27/06/2020 21:37

Sands - Weston 😂 only locals will know how tragic this is!

Atomsaway · 27/06/2020 21:43

HavingAMoan · 27/06/2020 21:46

@YgritteSnow

BusyDreaming · 27/06/2020 22:01

Late 80s to mid 90s
Hacienda and various Acid House Parties and raves, god knows where in London.
Glasgow. Sub Club was the best times.
The Tunnel, the Arches.
(Also Bennetts on a Tuesday night for 70s disco music, brilliant)

Proudest moment of my DH life was when our youngest DS started wearing his old techno/ rave tops to go out.

Fiddie · 27/06/2020 22:17

Late 80s/early 90s here

Was a raver and even reading some of these names gives me the tingles.

Sunrise, Telepathy, Labyrinth (that was a sweaty dive) lots of raves around the M25, Loved the Astoria, queuing round the block for it.

Anyone remember a London club, might have been on The Strand, called something 51, or 52? Maybe Studio 51, or something like that? Was a decent night out.

Best night I ever had was at Perception - huge rave in a field, tens of thousands of people, there was about 20 car loads of us in convoy all the way up there.

I bought some old rave flyers off eBay recently, my collection would have be worth a fortune.

Loved Amnesia, Privilege and Space in Ibiza too. Those summers were so good.

Best time of my life raving. Never managed to replicate the feelings since Smile

Fiddie · 27/06/2020 22:18

Actually think the club I'm trying to think of was Shaftesbury Avenue, not the strand.
