When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

Glasgow.
I'd completely forgotten about the Velvet Rooms or Cardinal Follies/The Shack. Grin
But mainly we went to:
The Garage
The Art School
Reds
Cotton Club

BusyDreaming · 27/06/2020 22:34

Glasgow again.
Joe Paparazzi’s, Tin Pan Alley and if the night really took a turn for the worse, Clatty Pats.
In 1990 when Glasgow was European City of Culture, the highlight was that some of the clubs stayed open until 5am.
Happy days.

Zisforstripyoss · 27/06/2020 22:35

@Beebityboo Thursday nights at DV8 were the best! We used to go to the bar upstairs, it wasn't usually as bad as the downstairs or the back room.

@BusyDreaming not thought of Clatty Pats in a long time. Pay day nights out were a drunken mess

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 27/06/2020 22:46

In the 90’s I was clubbing in Leeds, Preston and Blackburn. Cav (peppermint place / utopia), northern lights, c’est le vie, Tokyo joes, planet earth, heaven and hell, majestics, evolution.

And a little club in guiseley leeds called brummels. Hands in the air for brummels. I think it is a nursery now.

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 27/06/2020 22:57

@NervousInYorkshire

Bradford, mid 90s... Rio's, Tumbler's and Underworld (the one that was basically someone's basement). The odd exciting trip to Leeds for Stomp (later became Star) at the met; the Cockpit under the railway station and the Phono.

Early 00s: same as above but less Bradford. Queen's Court £1 nights, and back to the Cockpit for Poptastic, shagtags, and terribleness Blush

I was in all those places in the late 90’s!
tiredanddangerous · 27/06/2020 23:01

I spent my student years in birmingham. Bobby browns, the dome, pulse, snobs, gods kitchen. Used to get the train to Liverpool now and again for an all nighter at Cream. I had a boyfriend at a London uni and was a regular at the gardening club. Those were the days.

Missanneshirley · 27/06/2020 23:17

@Nicelunch25

Glasgow. Mid to late 90's. Archaos, the tunnel, tuxedo princess, club x (Wednesday night straight night ) the garage, the velvet rooms, fury Murray's
Nicelunch I will most definitely have danced alongside you! Club x turned into Barbazar is that right? Also remember Reds, the Velvet Rooms

And going right back we even stumbled into Victorias one night!!

The Boat was definitely in Glasgow in the early 90s, I don't remember phones but i definitely remember the revolving dance floor!

Alaska too.

Bonkersblond · 27/06/2020 23:50

Areila - The Academy is the theatre in Bournemouth

spikyplants · 27/06/2020 23:59

Belfast in the 90s/00s. More alternative than dancey. Lavery's attic, Limelight on Thursdays and Saturdays, Ski Bunny. Occasional trips to Dublin to Fibber Magees to stomp around in my New Rock boots. Grin

AlphaDalpha · 28/06/2020 00:10

Mass in Brixton has to be one of my favourite memories because every time I'd forget about all the stairs to get out again, it seemed like a maze.

The Fridge has crazy nights too.

MoS was always a bit tame by comparison

50shadesoflunacy · 28/06/2020 00:11

Golden Flamingo in Milton Keynes Grin

50shadesoflunacy · 28/06/2020 00:12

And The Dome in Brum

LinemanForTheCounty · 28/06/2020 00:48

Mass was great. There was another place in Brixton as well up on Brixton Hill, wasn't even a club officially, very messed up nights in there which was the impetus for me to stop doing all that shit because everyone in there was so screwed. Something castle?

DrCoconut · 28/06/2020 01:29

Another Ritz and rock world survivor here! The allnighter was pretty epic as I recall. Such a shame the place is a tesco now Sad

FedUpOfChangingName · 28/06/2020 01:42

London:

CAESARS - Streatham

The Litten Tree - Wandsworth

Trocadero - Piccadilly Circus

TinkerLilly · 28/06/2020 02:07

Cats Whiskers in Streatham Hill
Bon Bonie Clapham
Cinatras in Croydon

The Niebuhr

FedUpOfChangingName · 28/06/2020 02:13

@TinkerLilly

Im 36

mayormaynot · 28/06/2020 08:35

@Malotkins Oh my, I remember that room so well but I have no idea where it was?!

This thread is bringing back so many hazy memories. So many club names and nights I had forgotten. I want to go back!

I remember raving in a huge mansion too, where was that? Somewhere near Brighton? To be honest it could be anywhere, we travelled all over the south clubbing. Amazing days.

Kernowgal · 28/06/2020 09:04

Started off at indie nights at Ziggy's in Basingstoke then off up to London for Final Frontier at Club UK most Friday nights in 94-95. Uni in Sheffield so spent my student loan at No Logic and Headcharge at the Arches, then moved to south London where I was a regular at the Fridge, 414, Mass, 333, Bar Rumba on a Monday night for Gilles Peterson, 93 Feet East and Cargo in Shoreditch, somewhere under the Arches in Vauxhall (not Fire, the Box maybe?) plus various squat parties over the years and the rave one-nighters at country estates usually put on by Universal.

We'd also bookend Final Frontier with Tearoom Des Artistes on Wandsworth Road and a cafe called Wahey on Tottenham Court Road that had a dancefloor in the basement. Such good times. Would love a time machine!

Lonelycrab · 28/06/2020 09:22

@mayormaynot it sounds like Sterns you’re talking about. Never went myself but friends did, was pretty legendary!

Can’t believe Martines in East Grinstead got a mention... it was my home town and being tie due wearing hippies at the time we were seen as the enemy. Would have lasted about ten seconds in thereShock

L4uz · 28/06/2020 09:46

My clubbing days were mostly in Sheffield:
Leadmill
Plug
Corporation
Kingdom
Gatecrasher
Also regrettably Niche (once and never again)

Rollergirl11 · 28/06/2020 09:51

@LinemanForTheCounty are you talking about The Telegraph? I thought that was on Brixton Hill. It was a big pub that was a total dive but had a big room out the back. And yes everybody was always totally off their tits their. We would sometimes go there specifically to score some drugs and then leave again. 😳😬

There was also George lV that people used to go to for all dayers after they’d been out.

Rollergirl11 · 28/06/2020 09:53

I went to Sterns once when I was 17. I remember having to memorise my fake ID on the journey down. You had to empty all your belongings in to plastic bags to be searched on the way in. Inside it was like a maze of loads of different rooms. The sweat used to drip off the ceiling and land on you.

Rollergirl11 · 28/06/2020 09:59

@Kernowgal ahh The Tearooms in Wandsworth Rd was one of our locals. Many a messy night in there! There was also Inigo on Lavender Hill, The Mess on St Johns Hill and the legendary Oblivion at Clapham South that were all absolutely batshit crazy!!
