When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

Glasgow, from mid 90's until about 2 years ago! Still go to the occasional day club event.

Subclub: Subculture, Return to Mono, Optimo, Kinky Afro...and other nights I've forgotten. Subculture was and still is my favourite.

Arches: Relief, Pressure, Various Slam nights, Colours...and other nights I've forgotten

Also:
La Cheetah
Tunnel
Archaos
Club 69 (Paisley)
The Berkeley Suites
Mas!!
Various nights at QMU (particularly Bugged Out)
Alaska
Random nights in the Brunswick Hotel, Blackfriars, Pivo Pivo...
The unit

Mid /late 80s to early 90s, North London
Ashtons in Cricklewood, moved onto National in Kilburn, then Mean Fiddler in Harlesden, occassionally the Venue in New Cross. Happy Days, especially the Fiddler.....loved loved loved that place.
When I started my nurse training I moved to a different part of London. I was doing my RMN training in Friern Hospital (as was)and was hanging out with my cousin a lot who had come over from Ireland to do her RGN in Whittington hospital, at the time it was full of Irish nurses (am Irish descent) We used to hang out at the Gresham Ballroom on Holloway Rd and Cheekos above Archway Tavern. Totalmy naff, but the Gresham was free for women before 11pm and as poverty stricken student nurses this was important!

Most of these places have been demolished now!
Never like dance or rave music, preferred live music, especially indie or rock.

troppibambini · 28/06/2020 10:14

Manchester 90s
Hacienda, boardwalk, holy city zoo, paradise factory, home and manto.
Unless it was a travelling weekend and it could be anywhere Sheffield-the arches, back to basics-Leeds, miss moneypennys Birmingham, cream in Liverpool....
I do remember getting the train to Liverpool when I was 16 to go to a cream all nighter without tickets obviously couldn't get in so asked the doormen where there was another all nighter as we were now stuck in Liverpool for the night he told us to go the hard dock...we had an amazing night but Jesus it was rough. We ended up going to an after party in toxteth til the trains were running again in the morning.
My dd is nearly 16 and I go cold thinking of her getting up to what I did!

George IV is now Tesco's. The Telegraph is now a children's nursery!

Chocachocaholic · 28/06/2020 10:27

99 to early 00's I'm midlands based so for me it was passion and storm in Coalville and progress in derby did the big ones like gatecrasher too a few times but also enjoyed a cheesy nightclub night out in town too. Memories! Now married with 2 children and live for Saturday night with a glass of wine and a series to watch! How different. Still love a good night out though once in a while - usually once or twice a year (can't hack the hangover anymore)

mayormaynot · 28/06/2020 10:30

Sterns at Worthing yes, I think that was the same as the Mansion House? That oxo cube room was at Club UK. I was 14-17years old at my raving peak but loved it for another decade. Leading a very different life to my teen who is studying hard to be a surgeon... 🤭

Such a huge change for me in 30 years I was a crazy wild teen. I'm pretty sure I have some old DJ mix tapes and illegal radio recordings somewhere!

CreepyPasta · 28/06/2020 10:50

Late 90’s early 00’s Manchester

Tangled @ The Phoenix
Golden @ Sankeys
Holy City Zoo
The Music Box & Jillys (can’t believe they turned it in to a Tesco!)
The Boardwalk
Ritz
42’s and 5th ave
The Venue

Brilliant memories!!

Late 90s/early 00s

Swansea - Cindys and Barons
Southampton - Rhino Club, Academy, Jesters (boak)
London - Clapham Grand, Infernos.

Also did all the super serious Manchester clubs with a boyfriend who was far cooler than me, but really I just loved (and still love) a bit of cheese Grin

Malotkins · 28/06/2020 11:16

@mayormaynot Club UK!

Kernowgal · 28/06/2020 11:33

@Rollergirl11 yes! It was a great place, I was really sad when it closed.

Brixton Hill/Streatham Hill was also home to the Windmill and the White Horse iirc? I went to the George IV a few times but often used to see a few casualties outside on a Saturday afternoon Grin There was a great Caribbean cafe next door. I've just read that it's now a Tesco. Progress, eh!

Throughabushbackwards · 28/06/2020 11:35

The Australian ski resorts, late 90's early noughts. Christ on a bike it was fun.

Oldraver · 28/06/2020 12:09

George IV is one I forgot the name of, always a bit of a funny vibe in their

I know what you mean about Mass, the stairs into thew basement/crypt used to confuse me. I went to a Torture Garden in there once...what sites

LilyLocket · 28/06/2020 12:27

@Spidey66

I grew up in that neck of the woods. Ashtons and the National were a right of passage for anyone of Irish descent. My parents had their first date at the Galty up the road, too Grin.

I was a raver, but when we wanted a cheap night out and to just have a few drinks and be silly, we’d go to a pub on Kilburn High Rd, then to Ashtons. Or sometimes a pub in Neasden/Harlesden and then on to Dicey Reillys. Spit and sawdust, but bloody good fun!

Spidey66 · 28/06/2020 13:00

@Lilylocket
My parents had their first date at the Galty too! You're not my sister are you?Hmm

I'd forgotten about Diceys. Neasden Shopping Centre was weird. Not really a shopping Centre, just a parade if shops ending abruptly at the North Circular, and Diceys.

Did you go to school in a certain girls Catholic in Harlesden?

DestinationFkd · 28/06/2020 13:08

Early 80s in Germany.
Wrecked after being in the clubs of 52 solid hours of none stop pounding music and alcohol.

FedUpOfChangingName · 28/06/2020 13:42

Had some food nights in The Grand in Clapham Junction

Cherrysoup · 28/06/2020 14:36

The Tuxedo Princess, Newcastle, late 80s. The Palladium, Torremolinos, 1992. There was a massive pool you could just jump in and the place stayed open til 7am, straight out to breakfast then home, carefully avoiding lectures.

ginandmoregin1 · 28/06/2020 14:42

Newcastle, 2012 -2014 mainly. Started off just me and my best friend we used to go to dirty pop every Friday and propaganda every Saturday as the main clubs both in the 02. Absolutely loved those days and have some great memories, much better when there was just us 2 than there was when I was with a toxic bigger group of friends. I wish I could be that young and carefree again!

EdersonsSmileyTattoo · 28/06/2020 14:47

@CreepyPasta, I met my DH at Tangled at the Phoenix, I loved that place so much!

I’m actually sat here scrolling Mumsnet wearing a Tangled hoodie!

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 28/06/2020 17:28

90's in Blackburn. Peppermint Place, Utopia and C'est la Vie. Happy, pissed up memories. Before that Manchester - Conti Club, Fridays, can't remember the others.

slipperyeel · 28/06/2020 17:30

No Manhattan heights / northern lights?!
pilates · 28/06/2020 18:50

Mid 90’s Brighton
Zap on a Friday
Escape on Saturday
Boat parties on the Thames

Wishimaywishimight · 28/06/2020 18:59

Dublin so for me it was Leeson Street in the very late 80s / early 90s. Sleazy, cheesy and the wine was shite but I had great craic really, enjoyed that time of my life. Had loads of friends, did loads of snogging, loads of dating and loads of abandoned dancing. Great fun!

LycraLovingLass · 28/06/2020 19:14

From about 2003 I was a regular in Wigan pier. There is nowhere quite like that place. Still do the odd BTID event now which os basically Wigan pier in tour. Nothing can recreate the atmosphere of that dingy sweatbox though.
