If you could live anywhere in the world for a year

No issue with money, you're in a gorgeous house/apartment/complex/ranch (whatever is appropriate for the destination) in a safe neighbourhood. You have an amazing job with decent hours, great holidays (so you can explore your destination) and good career progression if you do this year away. Oh and the money isn't bad.

All pre-covid world of course Wink

I'm currently thinking a 3 bed apartment in East Village, Manhatten. I keep swaying between that and something a bit more nature-y and exotic though...
A view of some sea or mountains would be good. Maybe I'll go more rural Canada.

I think we both want the same apartment in New York, OP!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 19/06/2020 16:45

Tokyo.

No idea why, I've never been to Japan. I've always felt a pull there though.

GherkinsOnToast · 19/06/2020 16:46

South Africa - along the Garden Route.

Leakinglikeacolander · 19/06/2020 16:46

Squam Lake, New Hampshire.

I think somewhere totally norm-core like Switzerland. I feel embarrassed to say that but..I speak the language ok, food is great, scenery all around is beautiful...amazing walking, skiing, wine, beautiful cities. Can I work for the UN, too?

MaidofKent78 · 19/06/2020 16:47

Too many choices! NZ, Iceland, anywhere in the Alps. Ditto the Rockies. Norway. Slovenia (though that's covered by the Alps but it's an amazing country). Bavaria.

Anywhere with mountains basically!

1Bobbinwinder · 19/06/2020 16:47

I meant French. I do realise they don't speak "switz"

Herecomethehotstepper · 19/06/2020 16:50

Oh God, so many choices!

Kenya, Zimbabwe, Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, China, India, Pakistan. Basically anywhere that is the exact opposite of UK.

But also Mexico, Colombia, Canada, Australia, Greenland, Russia, Spain, France, Ireland, Wales. I just want to travel 😩

bert3400 · 19/06/2020 16:52

A really big house boat in the heart of Amsterdam, I love the Dutch and thier relaxed attitude. I will ride around on my bike trying not to knock down a tourist

steppemum · 19/06/2020 16:56

I love the Dutch and their relaxed attitude

as I am married to a Dutch man, I can assure you that a lot of this is superficial. For example, they REALLY mind if your front garden is not tidy and fits in with the street. Social norms and social pressure are higher than UK and eccentricity is not tolerated in the same way.

I love the Dutch, but this is a bit of a 'looking in from the outside' myth

steppemum · 19/06/2020 16:58

Can we go and live somewhere without a job for a year?

I'd go to pretty much anywhere. Preferably on the ocean, preferably with interesting culture to explore.
And enough money to do the exploring, eg have lessons in batik making.

IdblowJonSnow · 19/06/2020 16:59

Italy or Iceland.
Or pretty much anywhere atm!

meow1989 · 19/06/2020 16:59

Boston (sans Trump!) I think, DH and I semi seriously considered it for a brief period. Disclaimer being I've only been there for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon but absolutely loved it. Hawaii was another part of our honeymoon and I certainly wouldn't need much pushing!

mathanxiety · 19/06/2020 17:00

Corsica, but I burn easily so I'd end up in Stockholm. Poor me. 😂

GreenTeaMug · 19/06/2020 17:00

Oh the arctic circle.

GreenTeaMug · 19/06/2020 17:00

pretty please.

Crunchymum · 19/06/2020 17:01

Kefalonia

timeforawine · 19/06/2020 17:04

Hmmm Hawaii or Northern California, both stunning places
