If you could live anywhere in the world for a year

No issue with money, you're in a gorgeous house/apartment/complex/ranch (whatever is appropriate for the destination) in a safe neighbourhood. You have an amazing job with decent hours, great holidays (so you can explore your destination) and good career progression if you do this year away. Oh and the money isn't bad.

All pre-covid world of course Wink

I'm currently thinking a 3 bed apartment in East Village, Manhatten. I keep swaying between that and something a bit more nature-y and exotic though...
A view of some sea or mountains would be good. Maybe I'll go more rural Canada.

Sydney.

Never been to Australia, would love to experience living there.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/06/2020 19:36

Or Birmingham.

Went to watch England cricket at Edgbaston and LOVED the area. As someone who hasn’t lived outside of the south east corner of England I’d love to experience living in a different area in the same country. Would love to relocate to be honest, but have so many friends and ties to the area it might be a mistake. So...I’d love a year to experiment.

I couldn't agree more about the Dutch not being relaxed. They are very fond of rules, observed to a T. Yes, they might seem permissive, but things permitted there and not here, say, tend to be pretty tightly regulated.
Anyway, I'd love a year in Japan.

Lardlizard · 19/06/2020 19:41

Australia maybe

cyclingmad · 19/06/2020 19:56

I'd stay in London but I would want a house overlooking the sea not close to any neighbours - beatiful rich blue colour that you travel to get - so not really compatible but if I could....

Now if only the river thames was that gorgeous colour I think I could compromise

geekpumpkin · 19/06/2020 20:01

Paris. And Lisbon.

RHRA · 19/06/2020 20:04

Singapore, if it wasn’t so humid.

Imissmoominmama · 19/06/2020 20:11

I’d live in Madeira for a year, no question.

Coffeecak3 · 19/06/2020 20:13

Anywhere in Tuscany.

BabyLlamaZen · 19/06/2020 20:33

For all the UK dwellers, remember it's only a year! Can't stay forever, mind!

Battersea park is lovely
reinacorriendo · 19/06/2020 21:17

Menorca

Seven8nine · 19/06/2020 21:55

For a year it would be a beach property in San Diego, for me that would be the best of all worlds!

foofooyeah · 19/06/2020 23:16

This has really got me thinking ....

Mountains in Cyprus
Mauritius
Anguilla in the Caribbean.
San Diego
I adored Venice but could not imagine living there.

Goyle · 19/06/2020 23:22

In the UK I have always loved Dorset and the IOW.

I'd like to try New Zealand for a year though. The wildlife, the scenery and the culture of the Maori is fascinating.

Lonelykettleshed · 19/06/2020 23:28

Lived in NZ for a couple of years and loved it. If I was doing it again:
Alps (love them in summer and love the snow)
Faroe Islands or Shetland, Orkney or Scilly Isles
Canada

morriseysquif · 19/06/2020 23:43

New York for me, or San Louis Obispo in California. I'd be happy anywhere on the north Norfolk Coast too.

Graymare · 19/06/2020 23:47

Venice or Istanbul.

longtompot · 19/06/2020 23:49
