If you could live anywhere in the world for a year

No issue with money, you're in a gorgeous house/apartment/complex/ranch (whatever is appropriate for the destination) in a safe neighbourhood. You have an amazing job with decent hours, great holidays (so you can explore your destination) and good career progression if you do this year away. Oh and the money isn't bad.

All pre-covid world of course Wink

I'm currently thinking a 3 bed apartment in East Village, Manhatten. I keep swaying between that and something a bit more nature-y and exotic though...
A view of some sea or mountains would be good. Maybe I'll go more rural Canada.

Key West in the Florida Keys,a traditional conch house in old town, preferably near the cemetery, down a shady, quiet lane with a small dipping pool.

Everywhere is more or less the same to me in that everywhere has pros and cons. I’m not sure I could do with the gaff of moving to my dream location (having done that once before). Can I just be super rich and stay where I am?

Devlesko · 19/06/2020 17:07

Wales, and I intend to live there for the rest of my life, not a year. Grin

SimonJT · 19/06/2020 17:09

San Fran, very specific. I was there for six weeks for work once, I very nearly stayed but I would have missed my friends too much.

There are some really nice little apartments in the Castro District so I’d live there, San Fran is also a short drive from really nice countryside and there are always lots of things to do.

Greenteandchives · 19/06/2020 17:13

Grenada in the Lesser Antilles.
Although I wouldn’t mind the one in Spain either.

Ursaminor · 19/06/2020 17:13

I stayed in Hong Kong for a month as the first stop on a round the world trip in 1999 and found it very hard to move on. However things have unfortunately changed. If I could have it as it was back then, that's where I'd pick - so vibrant.

Nikki360 · 19/06/2020 17:15

Australia just to experience it. Looks amazing

AntiHop · 19/06/2020 17:15

South island, New Zealand. Or somewhere in the mountains in Canada.

mbosnz · 19/06/2020 17:17

Christchurch New Zealand.

winterinmadeira · 19/06/2020 17:20

Japan or Madeira.

WinWinnieTheWay · 19/06/2020 17:21

Italy!

Summer in Tuscany and the Lakes and winter in Rome.

Juliet2014 · 19/06/2020 17:22

* South Africa - along the Garden Route.*

I suspect you would very soon start to regret that. First time you were burgled perhaps.

For me - SAN Diego

merryhouse · 19/06/2020 17:23

Oh dear, how sad am I...

London

FrenchFancie · 19/06/2020 17:23

If it’s only for a year, Falkland Islands (look at the penguins!) Jordan (amazing country, spent a week there, people lovely, driving was insane), New Zealand or Hong Kong

Juliet2014 · 19/06/2020 17:23

Although I adore where I live now in the UK so really wouldn’t want to move!

Kljnmw3459 · 19/06/2020 17:28

Closer to my parents and in-laws. Tricky as we all currently live in different countries.

HelenaNightSoilCart · 19/06/2020 17:28

Christchurch, NZ. Nice house with big windows on the Port Hills somewhere I can see both the sea and the Southern Alps. And then just travel loads around the South Island.

ListeningQuietly · 19/06/2020 17:30

Santa Cruz, California

APurpleSquirrel · 19/06/2020 17:33

Either The Amalfi Coast in Italy or San Diego - loves both & felt so settled & comfortable in each.

MaximumDose · 19/06/2020 17:33

Rural county Cork in Ireland.

CrypticQueen · 19/06/2020 17:34

Ooh, Santa Cruz - that’s a good one. Me too. Or Kennebunk (New England) or Tokyo, or NZ.

Notglam · 19/06/2020 17:34

Paris for sure

MintyCedric · 19/06/2020 17:35

London

Stompythedinosaur · 19/06/2020 17:36

I'm torn between the Costa Rican rainforest or Alaska. Somewhere in the wilds. Or maybe a remote island like the Pitcairns.

MintyCedric · 19/06/2020 17:38

@merryhouse

Snap!

My parents moved out of London (admittedly not a particularly salubrious part) when I was 2 and I've never entirely forgiven them.

DD does her GCSEs next year and we were hoping to go abroad but given the current situation outlook backup plan is 5 days in London in a nice apartment, a few restaurants, some picky bits from the posh food halls, shopping, galleries, Champneys spa and a show or two (fingers crossed!)
