Latest this mornings Scotland Yard did in fact have 2 letters from Germany for the Mccanns. I feel so sorry for the Mccanns, it just seems one thing after another.

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 05:59

@XDownwiththissortofthingX yes Totally agree on the guilty v not guilty.
There is still nothing reported from the EU court re CBS appeal. I wonder if unless they can link him to a German crime he could be extradited for trial in Portugal?

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 06:04

German news is reporting that they are looking at possible crimes committed in Spain as he transited often in the large motorhome

Blackbear19 · 19/06/2020 10:11

Why on earth did the Germans tell the press about those letters before they sent them to the McCann's?

That's verging upon cruel. Or was it Scotland Yard sat on them. Ignored on somebody's desk?

ItchyScratch · 19/06/2020 10:31

New to this whole thread but for those who believe in weird happenings don’t you find it ooooh that Gerrys mother died this year and all of a sudden we’re finally getting close to a conclusion?

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 10:46

@Blackbear19 no this was Scotland Yards problem as they hadn’t passed the letters onShock

No, I don't find it 'oooh'.

Batshit and scurrilous rumour-mongering is what got the previous thread taken down.

As KatherineJaneway has said, these threads are to discuss the new suspect.

Plenty of other sites on the internet to discuss weird happenings.

No I don't find it ooooh.

I think this is an incredibly hard time for the McCann family. So close, yet so far and then throw in loosing a parent, which in normal times is hard, funerals in these times are horrible.

The last thread got taken down because of stupidity don't let it happen with this one.

Confused

oooh? What does that even mean?

Shanghaisue · 19/06/2020 14:24

I'm rewatching the netflix series. Only on episode 3 but was there something later on about a blonde guy in camper van or have I imagined it ? Or a guy behaving suspiciously at a market who got caught in a photo ? I just remember there being a debate about somebody dodgy loitering suspiciously and wondering at the time if that was a good lead.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 19/06/2020 14:38

Which documentary is it?

Shanghaisue · 19/06/2020 14:49

Netflix the disappearance of madeleine Mccann. It's got 5 or 6 episodes. Quite alot of padding, not sure of critical reception or whether her parents approved of it.

deepwatersolo · 19/06/2020 18:02

As for the letter, I sure wonder why it wasn't possible for German police and Scoland Yard to coordinate in a way that the Germans waited for and got the 'go ahead' and talk about the letter(s) after it/they had been delivered to the McCanns. What's going on there? (And why two letters?)

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 18:08

@deepwatersolo I read from DW German news that the first letter was to inform they had a prime suspect and the second letter to confirm that M was no longer alive. From the German news channels it seems to heavily imply the findings came from the 8000 images retrieved on the USBSad

deepwatersolo · 19/06/2020 18:31

Oh, Arewedone, that sounds bad. All the more reason to double check with Scotland Yard that the McCanns got the letter (particularly the second one), before doing a press tour.

The mere idea of burying USB sticks under your dog is flabbergasting. I mean, either, you destroy potetial evidence against yourself, or you don't (because it is too precious to you or something), and you hide it somewhere, where it is accessible to you and more importantly, where it cannot be destroyed, no?

How long did this genious expect the files would last on those sticks? Heck, from my experience, give it 10 years and you'll be hard pressed to find a computer that still has 'the standard'. If history is any guide USB sticks will go the way of the floppy disk. (On side note: the US NASA by their own account have lost the precise data needed to replicate the moon landing, because the data are stored in a way that is no more accessible with current machines).

This man does not strike me as the brightest bulb in the box. (And yet, absurdly, so far he always seems to be two steps ahead of the police.)

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 19:11

@Blackbear19 same way as my C90 tape recordings of the Top 40 on a Sunday Wink
News albeit daily fail saying the campervan he had has been crushed. Taken in lieu of a fine but too poor condition to sell so another hump in the road !

Blackbear19 · 19/06/2020 19:28

Arewedone - what / who were you responding to?Confused

Deepwater - very odd he buried them with the dog. But I think USB will be around for a while, esp since just about everything can be charged through them too.

I'm surprised NASA can't rebuild the computer they had. That seems odd to me. I know that's isn't the place for conspiracy theories but did they have the info in the first placeHmm

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 19:37

Sorry was @Deepwatersolo

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 19:38

@Blackbear19 it’s been a looong week Grin

Angel2702 · 19/06/2020 19:39

There are very detailed threads on websleuths if you want to follow the case.

Blackbear19 · 19/06/2020 19:46

I did wonder Arewedone, long week here too. I know the feeling. Lol!

deepwatersolo · 19/06/2020 20:03

I will say that when I first read that, I half jokingly said to my DH: ,Oh man, so Kubrick did create the moon landing footage after all.'
But on the other hand, I can totally see them bungling the preservation of those data...

(I guess, NASA could rebuild those computers, but it would probably need a dedicated team and a lot of money as this was not some automated mass production like the computer chips and parts of today, so they can't be arsed...)

Blackbear19 · 19/06/2020 20:12

I can totally see them loosing the data. But I don't think rebuilding the computer or even rebuilding the reader and connecting it to a more modern machine would be that hard.

Back to CB.
Anybody else read the reports that he may have encouraged a teenage neighbour into pedophilia, the neighbour has since been sentenced to 8 years.

Arewedone · 19/06/2020 20:14

@blackbear19 yes read that too. Can only hope they are really closing in on CB

peaceanddove · 19/06/2020 20:18

I cannot believe that Scotland Yard hadn't forwarded the letters onto the McCaan's. Unless they just thought it was junk or hate mail?
