Flippety

It's fine as long as she doesn't think impure thoughts while she does it.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/06/2020 13:44

I'm finding I can't handle the zoom/ online shallow imitations of things. Stuff like Beavers/ Cubs. Mine are really into it in their venues, but we just can't deal with it over the screen. Plus the fact I only know what dayit is because I've got a great big informative watch on my wrist. In the great void of lurking around the house, I can't cope with zooming at 5pm plus the realisation that the housekeeping is bordering onto fetid, but I can't be arsed to deal with it.

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 13:45

@rookiemere - I'm sorry but that's shite planning on the part of the teacher and ridiculous advance warning. I suspect strongly that your teen was not the only one not there. Please give yourself a break.

We've had a week's notice for the google link up for year 6 (who should bloody bastard well be back in school but don't get me started again). I'm astounded if they can do it 11 weeks in, why the hell they haven't done it before. Argh.

Delta1 · 05/06/2020 13:46

Choirs WILL return! There has been a choral tradition in this country for hundreds of years. There many ways for choirs to sing and rehearse together with distance and in any case, we will NOT be social distancing forever, whatever these morons are saying.
Some of these dementors are totally twisted. What has happened to them to make them rejoice in others' despair and actively advocate for a joyless world?

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 13:47

@BogRollBOGOF the only positive out of lockdown has been Zoom Scouts. DS' scout leader is just phenomenal. Every week he has pulled something amazing out of the bag. Every other virtual thing has been rubbish (church, church youth group, classes, music lessons etc etc) but Scouts has been brilliant.

rookiemere · 05/06/2020 13:47

Thanks flipperty going on a walk with a friend so that should cheer me up, although it's started bucketing which reflects my mental state .

Allflightscancelled · 05/06/2020 13:47

"Consider sexual arousal techniques that don't involve physical contact - like talking"

Grin. Yeah, that'll totally do the trick Hmm

Elsewhere, I see that Turkey was thinking of reimposing lockdown but got scared off by public reactions. I very much hope that public reaction here would be much the same if the govt tried to reimpose a lockdown if we ever escape. Sadly though I expect many would run enthusiastically back inside and slam the door.

Delta1 · 05/06/2020 13:48

Hopefully you can open that. It debunks some of the bollocks.

Drivingdownthe101 · 05/06/2020 13:49

BogRollBOGOF same here. Mine love Rainbows and ballet and gymnastics. They don’t want to do Rainbows activities at home, or practice their ballet using a video in the living room. They go because they enjoy doing it with their friends, not because they’re training to be elite gymnasts.
DD1 has piano lessons. She can’t do them over zoom, she’s 6! It just doesn’t work.

Drivingdownthe101 · 05/06/2020 13:49

Sadly though I expect many would run enthusiastically back inside and slam the door

Many of them won’t even have come out yet.

SudokuBook · 05/06/2020 13:55

I’ve just had a McDonald’s drive through, what’s my death tally do you think?

countrygirl99 · 05/06/2020 13:55

Just had a nice relaxed lunch break and now I have come back to 2 dementorish emails from councils re managing queues once the shops are open. This distancing stuff is so not going to work.

fartingsparkles · 05/06/2020 13:58

Back again! I am so grateful to have this thread for a wee bit of sanity amongst the madness. Although I am finding IRL more and more people who have had enough, want to get back to normal (as much as possible) and learn to live with it. Whereas there are people on MN who are advocating lock down from july - a "real" lockdown (I am assuming this involves locking up houses and sealing doors) - to "get rid of it". Bloody idiotic on so many levels, I can't begin to comprehend where their brains are.

And as for the children 'making noise' post! The Victorians called love, they want their attitude back. Although I feel the Puritan times would be where many would be better suited. Not happier, happiness is sinful. Show any happiness and c19 will run up your leg and bite your arse! Well, if you can find anyone with it near you - about as likely as seeing Lord Lucan riding past on Shergar.

UnderTheBus · 05/06/2020 13:58

Interesting graphic apparently using data from PHE, ONS and the equivalent bodies for Wales and Scotland. Number of cases incredibly low in many places- fewer than 50 per million. Even in Wales where it is dark red and scary, the figure could be 401 per million which is still only 0.004% of the population

Checking in

ISaySteadyOn · 05/06/2020 14:04

That list. I am imagining people with their arms stretched out social distancing.

Also, don't be unfair to Victorians. Children were allowed to be seen and exist. They just needed to be quiet. Now, they shouldn't exist.

Sorry I've been baking. I'm back! I've probably missed loads.

@Allflightscancelled I'm sorry to hear that! Hope your DH finds something soon his employer sounds like a right bell end.

Re entertainment. My best friend and her wife both work in theatre. They don't really know what to do for the best and my friend is pregnant due soon. They're panicking and I am so sad for them they're on furlough / self employment grant at the min but they really don't know what's going to happen.

Re my own job, my employer doesn't want me back off furlough yet and won't give me a date.

But docs for new job came today and I can email a copy due to covid and hopefully DBs will come through soon.

They've already had a reference off my boss. I know because she text me Blush

Oh well. Do we think I should ask for redundancy now? I've committed no crimes so my dbs will be fine.....

Vargas · 05/06/2020 14:07

Just had email from school. Y12s allowed back but only 25% at a time. WTAF? There will only be two year groups in a 7 year group school and they are only allowing 25% in at a time.

so one fourteenth of the school is allowed in at any one time....amongst an age group with a teeny tiny Covid risk. My brain hurts.

KaronAVyrus · 05/06/2020 14:08

Victorians also brought in universal education for children. We now don’t want to see, hear, let children enjoy themselves or be educated.

Allflightscancelled · 05/06/2020 14:16

Might as well try it, @TrustTheGeneGenie.

Sadly DH is unlikely to get a job as he's in his 50s. I think self employment beckons, he's done it before and I never wanted him to stop really. It's what I do and it's less stressy. I have the nicest boss EVER Grin. Sometimes she lets me arse around online al day.

littlbrowndog · 05/06/2020 14:17

Omg that list of do and don’t in sex.

It’s like it’s like you filthy lot having the sex. Just stop it

My cat licks his bum with enthusiasm. We are in trouble

fartingsparkles · 05/06/2020 14:17

Yep, I am being unfair to the Victorians really. A situation like this does show up some people's real feelings doesn't it? Children are disease vector, annoying irritants who should be grateful for whatever scraps they are thrown 🙄😠

@trust what can you lose? Genuine question.

NothingIsWrong · 05/06/2020 14:18

@UnderTheBus that's an awesome map, do you have a link?

My district and all the surrounding ones are white, meaning that nobody here has it?

Just filled in and sent the deposit off for next years school transport. No mention of corona AT ALL so I assume they are expecting to be launching germ filled rickety busses across the county with wild abandon come September...

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 14:21

We have moved from being locked up to flatten the curve to protect the NHS so it doesnt get overwhelmed, well, it is now FAR from overwhelmed. So have we now been locked up to stamp out the virus? If so why was the justification never communicated to us????

There was something about this in the Telegraph today- that is has moved from squashing the curve to 'supression' apparently. I agree first I had heard

Elderly people paying for shopping - I got dementored over this on here for accepting cash from elderly for shopping, putting lives at risk apparently. I am more concerned with having to go to the post office to pay it in, which is like some kind of dark tunnel of doom atm (up an escalator in WHsmith which is itself not open) and putting it off.

Helicopter arms is the new thing to call putting arms out apparently for primary age children
