I can accept not getting to sing in my lovely choir again for a while, they do seem to be relatively high risk for spreading the virus if someone present has got it. But I’m baffled at the idea that this is some permanent feature of the ‘post-Covid world’ and we’ll all have to wave goodbye to choirs forever! Wtf at the people who think (want?) social distancing to go on for the rest of our lives.

HauntedGoatFart · 05/06/2020 12:22

Someone mentioned criticism of Karl Friston's model/perspective on Twitter. What's the nature of the criticism - is it scientific criticism of his method or just "he's not an epidemiologist"? It does appear that people from multiple sources are converging on the theory that there is an unaccounted-for proportion of immunity in the population, of whatever size, since nothing else would seem to explain the continual dropping of infections across Europe despite the lockdown relaxations.

Afternoon. I've had an absolute rant on another thread so I've come here with Jackson, my bingturong, (who lives at Chessington Zoo, for a calm down..

trappedsincesundaymorn · 05/06/2020 12:24

Not sure why the clicky link is there.

HauntedGoatFart · 05/06/2020 12:25

@trustthegenegenie you can have whatever you want - since Karol Sikora is technically an animal and I find him to have powerful antiDementor properties, he is my Patronus Grin

BarkandCheese · 05/06/2020 12:25

Although I’ve taken a break for the last few years because the hours aren’t compatible with parenting I’ve spent most of my adult life working in theatre. What this is doing to live entertainment overall is something I actually find too painful to think about. If the government went with the WHO’s recommendation of 1m social distancing instead their of 2m we might stand a chance of getting things going a bit. It would just be feasible to have shows with solo performers, like musicians and stand ups, a skeleton staff and an audience with 1m between people, 2m is impossible.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 12:27

Hmm, just been told the year 6s have not to play football etc after school on the grass nearby, and go straight home. Not sure about that as thought allowed to play sports now.

MagdaS · 05/06/2020 12:27

Checking back in to the new thread for some sanity.

Choirs will have to come back. The plague / Spanish Flu / other pandemics didn’t finish them off so there is no reason they won’t recover from this. Surely they can do so at the same time places of worship open.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 12:27

by the school

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 12:28

Could have an open air choir? Would that work or no?

MagdaS · 05/06/2020 12:31

@BarkandCheese music and theatre is a big part of my life too. The idea that the world’s great orchestras cannot reconvene to play is hugely sad and very worrying.

BarkandCheese · 05/06/2020 12:31

With distancing I don’t see why on open air choir wouldn’t work. I guess the main issue from a musical POV is the lack of acoustics.

KaronAVyrus · 05/06/2020 12:32

An open air choir would work but that would mean people might enjoy themselves so it won’t be allowed to happen.

BogRollBOGOF · 05/06/2020 12:33

Hopefully significantly reducing numbers mean that it should be easily justifiable to reduce distancing to in line with other countries and my suspicion is that it will happen as the announcement is made for pubs and cafés.

My friend owns a micro pub. 2m would allow for one house hold in the bar and one in the yard. In other dire luck, early in lockdown there was a fire 8n the house next door that significantly damaged their roof so they were without their home and possesions damaged too. Sad They're such a lovely couple that get shit luck, after shit luck. If I wrote it all down it would be so specific as to be outing and sound like the over the top plot of a trashy novel.

BarkandCheese · 05/06/2020 12:33

The thought of all those theatres, concert halls and opera houses sitting empty makes me want to weep. Not to mention the livelihoods which depend on them.

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 12:34

BBC news going on about face masks should be extended www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-52930245

Orangeblossom78 · 05/06/2020 12:35

yes I know a couple of lovely families with cafes and restaurants here who will be badly hit by this.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 12:35

Infections have gone down 30% this week apparently 🤷🏻‍♀️

MinesaPinot · 05/06/2020 12:36

Hi All just checking in so I don’t lose you all!

SockYarn · 05/06/2020 12:41

In my council area there were 6 new infections this week.

What's the chance of me bumping into one of those 6 people in the supermarket? Let me just do the maths... 1 in 18050 or 0.0000554%.

But yeah, stay at home because EVERYONE'S GOT IT. Hmm

DrearyWallAntler · 05/06/2020 12:41

@Teateaandmoretea

But. But. But people FLOCKED to BEACHES!

Shodan · 05/06/2020 12:42

I want the use of the word ‘flouted’ to be outlawed

Oh god, me too.

See also the incorrect versions: flaunted, flauted (not even a word ffs), flounced.

And while we're about it, let's boot 'unprecedented' too.

And the phrase "I despair, I really do" when used by a Dementor in full faux-sanctimonious mode.

NowImLivinInExeter · 05/06/2020 12:42

There is someone on another thread right now saying we will be in and out of lockdown forever because there may never be any vaccine nor any long term immunity.

Really cheerful stuff.

Mascotte · 05/06/2020 12:43
