Afternoon all.

SockYarn · 05/06/2020 12:44

Oh and there was ONE new infection this week in the area where my parents live, out of a population of almost 150,000.

But I'm still not allowed to go to see them as it's clearly SO dangerous. Haven't seen them since Christmas due to a range of factors including bad weather and lockdown. Dad displaying worrying symptoms of what is probably dementia. Mum struggling. Very little support from NHS as everyone has been redeployed to fight the Covid war, for that one solitary person who has developed it this week.

What a crock of shit.

Teateaandmoretea · 05/06/2020 12:45

@DrearyWallAntler

They flooded and flocked to flout social distancing by flaunting on the beach.

Up your game 😂

Mascotte · 05/06/2020 12:47

@HsuntedGostFart I saw that about Friston too. But he is a SAGE adviser so hardly a maverick. Twitter is full of dementors just now

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 12:47

Hello all - just checking in so I don't lose you. Glad you enjoyed the Lionel Shriver piece whoever put that. I'll just post it again in case anyone hasn't read it.

news.sky.com/story/after-the-pandemic-bring-back-the-old-normal-says-author-lionel-shriver-12000147

My lovely colleague sent it to me. We have been having regular chats about how much of a massive over-reaction this all is.

Flippetydip · 05/06/2020 12:49

We really should start a bingo call out on the dementor threads.
Flouted, flocked, murder, kill, deaths, vaccine, unprecedented, irresponsible, socially-distanced anything, isolating, vulnerable - any more you can think of?

Full house if they're all in one post.

GoldenOmber · 05/06/2020 12:50

@NowImLivinInExeter

There is someone on another thread right now saying we will be in and out of lockdown forever because there may never be any vaccine nor any long term immunity.

Really cheerful stuff.

Honestly I cannot tell if people saying things like this are very very scared and not thinking straight or if they’re just enjoying spreading doooooooooom.
DominaShantotto · 05/06/2020 12:52

1 case in my area last week. Absolutely everywhere and death and ventilators ahoy.

I feel for the year 6 kids - also the year 2s in infants who aren't going to get their ending to infant school either - I don't think they're even going to get allowed back into school to retrieve their belongings, the birthday display has been taken down in DD2's classroom, their artwork off the walls, tray labels removed so they can use the trays for the keyworker bubble going into the room - and a huge pile of worksheets sent home.

Their "transition" (and they're only 7 - and many of them only-just 7) is a video from the juniors, some photos of the front door and playground and an letter to write to an older child who may or may not reply depending on what home circumstances are like. None of the big kids coming to help at sports day, leavers show, days spent with having playtime in the new school and getting to know their big kid buddies (they pair them up with the current year 5s so they know the biggest people in the school come September). Nothing.

Still haven't had the SENCO from the new school ring me like he was going to. None of the meetings, information sharing, dialogue from us about what will help her SEN in the new school... thankfully the current SENCO at least teaches DD and is superb at it - so has a fairly good picture of things and we've relayed lots about how she's struggled with the current circumstances as well.

SudokuBook · 05/06/2020 12:53

Hi all

Going out murdering again, or have they stopped “crying and shaking with terror” when people go to the shops for wine?

Allflightscancelled · 05/06/2020 12:54

DH has just got the redundancy letter we've been expecting. My expectations have been proved right. The barest minimum payment allowable, and a whole host of blether about while he hopes DH will get another job and he'll do all he can to support him in that, DH can't use any of the stuff he's been working on in his portfolio because, you know, client confidentiality Angry. Oh, and if he gets another job during the notice period he has to tell boss, who will then stop paying the money for the notice period Shock

Allflightscancelled · 05/06/2020 12:56

Sorry @DominaShantotto. Cross post.
That sounds very, very shit.

@SudokuBook. I go out for wine most days. Sometimes also beer.

TeacupDrama · 05/06/2020 12:59

@orangeblossom78 once kids leave school premises the school have no jurisdiction they don't have to go straight home however the two households 2 metre rule applies but so does the unlimitedly outdoor activities rule, so just let them kick the ball but no licking the ball, personally I think getting dog lol on ball then on hands is a bigger risk than covid on ball

SudokuBook · 05/06/2020 12:59

That’s so shite @allflights

At least my work have made sure I’ll be OK financially for a good while. I just hate not working though

amicissimma · 05/06/2020 13:03

I stumbled across a post on one of the NHS threads that basically said that no one should share an opinion that the poster didn't agree with. The implication was that the person shouldn't even think that thought.

Is this what passes as debate these days?

DominaShantotto · 05/06/2020 13:04

Giant marble sized hailstones here a while ago - but the school rules are all doors and windows open all the time because of the LUUUURRGGGYYYYYY - so glad I sent DD2 in with a jumper this morning because she will be complaining she's freezing!

I've noticed with DD1's school that the very careful measuring temperature as they enter, logging it and making sure they discuss which way around a table they're walking so they stay 2m apart is dwindling rapidly - the thermometer comes out at some point in the morning when someone remembers, and the kids were all diving to pick bags up off the rack without waiting fully for the previous person to move away - and the staff don't seem too worried about it anymore either!

It's nice.

What I also noticed this morning were the number of elderly couples out doing a morning walk as I was dropping off at the infants who were smiling and waving with faces lighting up just seeing the little ones going into school - how many of them are desperately missing their own grandchildren? How heartbreaking!

TeacupDrama · 05/06/2020 13:04

@dominicshantotto it is illegal not to let people parents personal belongings you can't steal pencil cases pumps PE kits or refuse to allow them to be collected

@allflightscancelled I think that is illegal to stop paying because he has found another job, it maybe legal to stop paying if he is working in another job, make sure any accrued holiday is paid at 100% not furloughed rate. I can't comment on portfolio but that is probably true.

SudokuBook · 05/06/2020 13:05

Nihiloxica · 05/06/2020 13:05

But I’m baffled at the idea that this is some permanent feature of the ‘post-Covid world’ and we’ll all have to wave goodbye to choirs forever!

I know, seriously.

This is what I don't get - the complete lack of proportion.

There is a new virus that can be very dangerous to some and it can spread easily when people are in large groups and are singing.

OK, fair enough, let's pause choir activity while we think about ways to mitigate the risks and wait for better treatments or a vaccine.

But we get:

OMG millions are dying. Singing must be banned forthwith. And ALL live musical performance, just in case the virus is spread by HEARING MUSIC.

Also no live performance at all, because it might be LIVENESS that is killing people. Can't be too careful!

Also let's shut down schools because children are filthy beasts. They're even worse that CHOIRS 😱

LivinLaVidaLoki · 05/06/2020 13:07

I just got caught up on the last thread, so, let me get this straight....
Less than 1% of the population are infected with CV currently?

Transmission is slowing every day.

I really want to know why the government are making the choices they are making, there needs to be more transparency.

We have moved from being locked up to flatten the curve to protect the NHS so it doesnt get overwhelmed, well, it is now FAR from overwhelmed. So have we now been locked up to stamp out the virus? If so why was the justification never communicated to us????

Where is the justification for this utter utter bullshit.

I have been doing so well but today I am really struggling. I just cant see this ever coming to an end.

On another thread somewhere, someone suggested "well, if you miss your friends, zoom them" this is utter bullshit. Im sick of all my interactions outside of these 4 walls being just shopping and online. Sick of it.

I wonder how many of the dementors would have been complaining we live in a nanny state previously...…

Since when did people become so happy for the government to remove all liberties? when?? How did this happen?

DominaShantotto · 05/06/2020 13:07

@amicissimma

I stumbled across a post on one of the NHS threads that basically said that no one should share an opinion that the poster didn't agree with. The implication was that the person shouldn't even think that thought.

Is this what passes as debate these days?

Pretty much.

I noticed it on the "will you send your child to school with no distancing" thread - people will pop on and say, "yes, I will" or "no, not comfortable" and move on - but there are a few posters who just return and return and return and yell at people for saying yes that they are despicable, that they just want to kill all teachers and make them dead, that they're vile people who hate their children and that even discussing this is literally killing teachers and shouldn't be allowed to discuss it.

It really fucked me off - lots of very personal attacks at someone for just posting a calmly worded and fairly legitimate query. If they'd asked if we would send our children back to schools constructed of corpses of teachers and lined with dead unicorns I could understand the offence being taken.

MN have totally lost control of the site now.

Nihiloxica · 05/06/2020 13:07

how many of them are desperately missing their own grandchildren?

How many of them are missing their nice quiet weekday walks when all the children are at school? Smile

BarkandCheese · 05/06/2020 13:08

Allflightscancelled I’m so sorry. Flowers

Drivingdownthe101 · 05/06/2020 13:08

Now I know we shouldn’t be referencing other threads, but I can’t help myself.

See this gem...

Plus if children do go out and play together they will undoubtedly make lots of noise and annoy people, especially as lots are still working from home

Children shouldn’t be allowed out to play with other children now because they’ll disturb the adults working from home.

So not only can they not go to school, or see their grandparents, or go to playgrounds, or play in their paddling pools (water shortage), or go to the zoo, or farm parks, or anything else... they now can’t play outside at all in case they disturb people.

DominaShantotto · 05/06/2020 13:08

Can we please shut down morale boosting collaborative zoom performances from artists in their recording studios in their mansions trying to lift our spirits and unite us all please though?

Not on any virus related grounds - just because they're shit.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 05/06/2020 13:09

Found the new thread!

DD is having one friend over this afternoon to 'play in the garden' Both mums agree it'll be in her room.

Very cross at some local dementors. Banging on fb about stay local, stick to rules, don't want schools to reopen. Then they have their kids birthday and post fb photos of 3 or 4 mates in the back garden 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️
