Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

I hate second hand book shops. Even worse, going into them with other people. I love books, but for some reason I really hate those shops!

Hoppinggreen · 17/04/2020 17:02

Children
I quite like my own and occasionally I will get to know one that I actually like but that will be based on their personality rather than any blanket “liking of children”. To be honest I never knew I was expected to like a whole group of people purely based on their age rather than their own merits but it seems some people do

The summer. All of it apart from the long evenings. I hate hot weather, I hate bright sunlight, I hate wasps, I hate summer clothes that make me look like a marshmallow, I hate having to deal with sunscreens (vital with a ginger DS), I hate the feeling that we should be out Making The Most Of It every day and I hate the guilt if my DS isn't playing with friends every blessed minute.

ElbasAbsentPenis · 17/04/2020 17:09

Mindfulness! Bores the shit out of me.

FthisS · 17/04/2020 17:10

Avocado - I'm vegan and everyone just presumes I like them.

Dogs - Again, because I'm vegan people think I want to smooth their dogs. I hate dogs they make me sick Blush I won't go to a beach that doesn't have a dog ban (we live in pembrokeshire and there are only a handful of beaches with dog bans).

AgentCooper · 17/04/2020 17:11

Shopping with friends. I love company in general but when I’m shopping I just want to enjoy browsing and trying things on myself without worrying about other folk being bored etc.

nameymcnamechangeagain · 17/04/2020 17:12

Natural light. I hate hate hate it and if it wasn’t for DP the curtains in my house would never get opened!!!

Also don’t enjoy bath bombs or having someone touch my hair

Also hate walking without a purpose! Don’t mind walking when I know there’s something at the end of it but otherwise I’m much like the OP and very aware of every step and it bores me to death.

Healthy food. I envy those who can enjoy a nice chicken salad I really do!

Water. Would rather go thirsty more often than not!!

Windyatthebeach · 17/04/2020 17:12

MilkNoSugars · 17/04/2020 17:12

Spa days/ treatments''pampering ' etc. I find them really boring and I hate being massaged or touched by strangers!

UkuleleRose · 17/04/2020 17:13

Wine

BarkandCheese · 17/04/2020 17:13

Beauty treatments/pampering/spas. I hate even having my hair cut, let alone having any other part of me poked, rubbed or scrubbed by a stranger.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 17/04/2020 17:13

Films- hate devoting hrs to watching something, never remember any plots

Dogs-I will mop up my child’s poo knowing one day she will do it herself. Dogs are needy and expensive and quite frankly smell!

CatBatCat · 17/04/2020 17:14

Alcohol. Not many alcoholic drinks taste very nice and I don't like the feeling of being drunk. I'm not teetotal but rarely drink more than a few times a year.

Overseas holidays. Much rather visit places in the UK.

wildcherries · 17/04/2020 17:14

Big group gatherings. Especially weddings and other milestone events filled with expectations.

Agree with pp on children! I like about 4 of them. Dislike them in general. Grin

CatBatCat · 17/04/2020 17:16

Another to add.

Shopping as an activity. To me its a chore.

wildcherries · 17/04/2020 17:17

+1 on avocado

Sparklingbrook · 17/04/2020 17:17

Gin-like drinking perfume.

Pimms-yuk, especially when you get handed one at a wedding without asking for it and it has all that greenery in it.

Going to the beach. Boring, too sandy and other people.

Pandoraslastchance · 17/04/2020 17:18

Coffee- just cant stand it. I've tried cheap, expensive, flavoured, latte, mocha, just yuck! Same with teas.

maa1992 · 17/04/2020 17:18

Reading

Running - DH is an avid runner and runs marathons etc, great for his health and I see the benefits but I hate doing it

Gin, not supposed to love it but it's trendy and I hate it

applesnotoranges · 17/04/2020 17:19

Cats and dogs. If you want to have a pet that's absolutely fine but I don't need to have a 1. I don't want your dog slobbering all over me. I don't want your cat sitting on my lap and I certainly don't want you feeding your pet from the dinner table.

PerpendicularVincent · 17/04/2020 17:20

I don't really like alcohol, except fruity cocktails. I also don't watch soaps, or stuff like X Factor because DH moans .

MrsSnitchnose · 17/04/2020 17:20

@CatBatCat Yes! Unless it's books, then I can spend all day browsing.

Clothes shopping I hate, never fins anything I want to wear. Only place that has loads of things I like is EMP and they're rather expensive for me

lynsey91 · 17/04/2020 17:22

Having a bath. Waste of time and water. Showers always (haven't had a bath now for at least 25 years).

Massage. Never had one but know I would hate it as I don't like being touched by anyone except DH. I don't even like having my hair washed by the hairdresser.

Ceiling lights. I only like light from lamps. I like natural light and every house I have lived in has had to be very light. No way could I live in a dark house. I know someone whose living is so dark they have to have the light on almost all day!
