Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

Pesto and hummus

NewToRenting · 17/04/2020 17:54

Massages - strangers touching me, just no
Garlic - hate the smell, hate the taste
Yoga - most classes I've done are pretentious and/ or acrobatic
Shopping - I buy online as much as possible, groceries, clothes, home appliances... Only exception is shoes and furniture.
Gourmet coffee - my instant is fine, thank you
Beaches and picnics - sand and bugs
Snow - nice to look at the first day, but makes walking/ driving really hard. And a day later there's slush everywhere.

butterpuffed · 17/04/2020 17:56

Hot weather
Tea
Avocado

Squirrelfan · 17/04/2020 17:58

Ice cream - have to juggle it around in my mouth so it doesn't touch my teeth while it's so cold.
Driving - such a big responsibility, and if you're going somewhere unfamiliar, there's so much to process - ideally I'd have a chauffeur.
Agree with Pimms - it's dreadful, tastes of artificial sweetener (no idea if it is)
Milk in tea - makes it smell like menstrual blood. Really gack.
Blueberries - they taste really strange but I force myself as they're meant to be healthy.
Also don't like summer - partly because summer clothes reveal my pasty veinyness but also because they're never quite warm enough, so if you're in the shade, it's chilly. But it's just a bit too sweaty for tights...

Tea and wine
Girls nights out

crazydiamond222 · 17/04/2020 18:01

Tea - vile stuff
Eggs - seems really weird to me to eat something that came out of a hen's bottom
Holidays with children - complete oxymoron
Group activities and especially cliquey nct ones

Zisforstripyoss · 17/04/2020 18:03

Hanging out with people and talking to them - I can only take so much, I'm a natural loner.
Anything pampering - I hate people touching me.
Prosecco - bleugh and makes me sick.

DeRigueurMortis · 17/04/2020 18:03

Cruises.

Ok I'll admit I've never been on one but I honestly don't get why you'd want to go on holiday to a floating hotel crammed with people and have your schedule dictated to about where you can visit and for how long.

If holiday companies offered a holiday in a land based mega hotel where you could only leave it every 3 days for 8 hours to see the local sights no-one would book it....

pollyhemlock · 17/04/2020 18:04

Goat’s cheese. So many vegetarian recipes use it but actually it just tastes of goat.

Yoga - awful business Grin
Gigs- can never see over blokes heads and usually end up wishing for it to end. And if they don't play the popular ones or do one from a new album:get the fuck outta here!
Spicy food: just hurts tbh.

ShowOfHands · 17/04/2020 18:05

Weddings too

Rebelwithallthecause · 17/04/2020 18:07

Musicals
Other people’s children
Summer

Daffodil55 · 17/04/2020 18:08

Camping. Tried it once and once it shall remain.
Hen parties/holidays. Tried it once and am not over it yet. They have been married for 9 years now.
Yoga. I don't want to talk about it Hmm

Another one here who never does the shopping with friends thing. Leave me alone to browse and take as much time as I want etc. (one day I may be able to do it again!)

conceptionisascience · 17/04/2020 18:08

Coffee
The beach
Avocados
Socialising

fluffyrice · 17/04/2020 18:08

Agree with you OP on dark chocolate and camping. Re camping- I can sort of understand people who like to pack up a tent and pitch it at different places as they travel around (freedom to explore, stay as long as they like etc). But most campers I know tend to either book one place for a week or 2, or camp fairly close to home for a night at the weekend.

I also feel I should like freshly ground artisan coffee, but actually I really can't stand it but quite like a cup of standard instant.

crosser62 · 17/04/2020 18:08

Alcohol
Other people’s children
Dogs/cats/animals of any description
Pubs/clubs
“Get togethers”..leaving parties/birthday parties/nights out.
Shopping of any description
Learning/study, can’t do it, can’t retain information

hiredandsqueak · 17/04/2020 18:09

Cheese, chocolate, alcohol, Harry Potter

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 17/04/2020 18:09

Hot weather - hate being hot and bothered, bright sunlight gives me a headache, hair gets stuck to me and makeup melts, overweight and very concious of having arms/legs out.
Glad others have said "other peoples children", I thought I was just a grumpy cow. Keep your snotty noses, grubby hands and screeching away from me and my food

lachy · 17/04/2020 18:10

Lettuce. Ugh. The texture of leaves makes me shudder.

Walks. DH will say "shall we go out for a nice walk?" I'll go, but quite honestly I'm only doing it for him and DD. (and because I will get a cake and a coffee when we're done)

Cut Flowers. I bloody hate them. They are a waste of money, they die and then you have to deal with smelly, slimy old flower water. I know that there is thought behind them, but I'd rather have a plant for the garden.

Stompythedinosaur · 17/04/2020 18:11

Red wine, hugs and listening to music (I quite like playing music though).

Twenty2 · 17/04/2020 18:13

@custodiandiscount people

Grin me too!
Long soaks in the bath. Soooo boring. Don't really enjoy showering either, such a faff, but needs must.
Children. At all. The occasional individual is ok.
The sound of children playing drives me nuts. Or any sounds made by children, really. Especially next door's 3 year old who squeals and shrieks for pleasure and is never told to be quiet.
Friends. Just never really got much out of friendship, so I don't bother anymore.
Socialising with any family other than my DH; even that's often of dubious enjoyment Grin
The vast majority of TV programmes and films.
All forms of exercise. I've tried some and I believe that not everyone gets endorphins from it. Walking the dog is the only things I'm prepared to do.
Eating out. Uncomfortable and I resent spending money on being so.
Ditto holidays abroad. I've never been and don't want to.

Er, perhaps I'd better stop there Blush

anothernotherone · 17/04/2020 18:14

Weddings
Massages
Dinner parties
Gyms
Large gatherings of friends and relatives of friends at which the only connection is knowing someone in common
Agree on dark chocolate though disagree on the rest of the OP's list

jellybe · 17/04/2020 18:16

Gin and dogs - can't stand either.
