Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

@crosser62

Are you really saying you do not like any animals? A world without animals would be an uglier world in my opinion.

hiredandsqueak · 17/04/2020 18:17

Can I add gardens/gardening? I would happily pave ours over and never go out there again tbh. As it stands I go out to open the gate for the gardener to cut the grass and to hang laundry out but never set foot in it otherwise.

snappycamper · 17/04/2020 18:19

Cheese

merryhouse · 17/04/2020 18:19

Totally with you on dark chocolate, every word.

Having a bath. Clean now, bored now.

Chocolate coated coffee beans.
Salty licquorice.

Salted caramel - the salt makes it Far Too Sweet.

I love everything about camping except the sleeping on the ground part.

Getting drunk. I hate it.

ALongHardWinter · 17/04/2020 18:34

Other people's children. There I've said it. I'm not a child hater or murderer, but I can never muster up much enthusiasm for other people's kids. It's different with my own,and my grandchildren,of course. Grin But I sometimes feel like I'm an awful person when I really don't want to interact with someone's little darling when I'm just trying to enjoy my coffee and the newspaper in peace in the coffee shop.
Incidentally,a few years ago I mentioned this to a friend. Her response was 'Why did you have children then?'. She couldn't understand the difference between loving your own flesh and blood but feeling a bit 'meh' about other people's.

AgeLikeWine · 17/04/2020 18:43

Clothes shopping. Women are supposed to love nothing more than a girly afternoon trying on clothes & shoes and indulging ourselves in a bit of ‘retail therapy’, aren’t we? Well bollocks to that. I can’t imagine anything more tedious, pointless or boring.

Except perhaps watching soaps, which is something else we are supposed to love. Fuck that, I will be watching the Rugby instead.

Puffinhead · 17/04/2020 18:43

@spiderlight, I feel Exactly the same about summer. I loathe being hot (and sweaty). I spend more time indoors than out - and then feel guilty like you. It doesn’t help that our garden is south facing with no bloody shade!

Puffinhead · 17/04/2020 18:44

I also hate shoe shopping - for me and the kids equally.

idontsmokeivape · 17/04/2020 18:44

Trainers (not Converse type, but proper trainers) worn with anything but activewear. Why are they being paired with dresses, skirts, jeans, etc? Looks so daft and hideous to me, but I know I am in the minority.

Anthilda · 17/04/2020 18:45

Food wise I hate olives and avocado, also not too keen on pizza and cannot stand cups of tea. Yuk

I hate bright lights, particularly if I can see it in the mirror. My house is in darkness except for a few lamps or natural light.

I hate massages, giving or receiving. Hate being tickled aswell.

Not fussed on afternoon tea

Dont particularly like going out now, would rather choose a night in. I never could have imagined myself saying that 10 years ago.

Puffinhead · 17/04/2020 18:46

Going on from feeling hot - saunas, steam rooms are a big turn off.

WhatTiggersDoBest · 17/04/2020 18:46

Jogging,
Marijuana,
Getting drunk,
50 Shades of Grey,
Cats,
DIY
I fucking hate all of them. They are all disappointingly awful.

idontsmokeivape · 17/04/2020 18:47

Yes, I despise overhead lighting and bright lights. Lamps are so much nicer
.

clairey111 · 17/04/2020 18:47

Tea. Confused

CarlottaValdez · 17/04/2020 18:49

I don’t really like wine.

I go to quite a lot of expensive restaurants with my job and it can get embarrassing. I usually just sort of force myself to have a small amount which I know is ridiculous. It just seems so childish to not like it at all.

AgeLikeWine · 17/04/2020 18:52

Beaches in summer. Why the fuck would anyone want to just lie there on hot, dirty, uncomfortable, overcrowded sand for hours on end getting intolerably hot & sweaty, being leered at by fat old men, bitten by insects, irritated by other people’s noisy children, pestered by dodgy guys flogging tat and risking skin cancer?

Beaches are much, much better out of season when they are deserted and you can walk undisturbed for miles.

FatherWindyShepherdHenderson · 17/04/2020 18:53

Alcohol, in any way, shape or form! I just cannot stand the taste so I don’t drink for that reason. The same with tea and coffee, don’t get why it’s so popular! 🤢

Fruits and vegetables- never have liked them, it’s just the different textures that I cannot stand, not necessarily the taste as I love fruit flavoured things (like yoghurts etc.).

Children - whilst some of them can be very cute, most of them are just annoying.

Summer - my least favourite time of the year! I hate being forced to wear unflattering clothing in order to not overheat, hate that the blazing sun heats my house up to 1000 degrees, hate the clingy, stuffy heat that means I’m just a constant sweaty mess, hate the inevitable insects that come with it (bastard wasps!)... need I say more!

MissClementine · 17/04/2020 18:54

Spas, sitting around in swimwear and robes with wet hair and no make up. No thank you!

Bluewavescrashing · 17/04/2020 18:59

Video chats-not much to talk about right now and it's awkward. Send me a text.

Camping-bloody hard work and I need a wee in the night. Nice hotel please

Community / school fairs/ fayres. Hemorrhaging cash, the crowds, small talk. Ugh.

Clip and climb centres. Sounds great but you spend £28 for an hour for 2 kids. Invariably they get fed up after 20 mons and demand expensive snacks and drinks from the cafe. It's in a retail park so surrounded by Smiggle, Tiger Tiger etc. Friends of ours wanted to mooch about the shops after our climbing session last time. I declined nd went home!

PolaDeVeboise · 17/04/2020 19:00

@Jellybe - add Prosecco to that list and we are as one. REALLY don't get the dog thing - wish them no ill, but don't get the treating them like children and, this is what bugs me, expecting every other fucker to fawn over them too.

CatBatCat · 17/04/2020 19:01

In addition of my hatred for shopping.

Christmas markets.
