Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

Avocado. Specifically smashed avocado. Any other veg would be 'mashed', why is avocado 'smashed'?!

Other people's children

Summer. Looooove every other season but the heat, sweat, sun screen, the clothes. All of it. Hate it.

Gin

Tea

AlphaIndigo · 17/04/2020 17:24

Getting my hair cut. There's something about a stranger washing your hair that just feels wrong.

Cycling. I keep trying as I know it's a better way to travel but its just awful. There isn't the comfort of driving and there isn't the relaxation of walking.

pleasedoone · 17/04/2020 17:25

Television. I don't have one, and I don't want one.

Comedians. They're not funny.

Going on holiday.

Nosey neighbours.

Winter, and anything to do with "cosy socks", "blankets" and "hot choc" (ugh)

Thisismytimetoshine · 17/04/2020 17:27

Summer.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 17/04/2020 17:29

Wine

Avacados

Big tomatoes

Olives

Salad - although I like it with some things.

Reading - Loved it when I was younger, and I'm annoyed at myself for not being able to find a book I will actually enjoy. I think it's because I don't get peace to read now.

Summer - but I do love getting out without getting soaked.

Chatting on the phone.

Cooking

Olives, vile things! Dark choc, spas, baths and shopping.

TheSandman · 17/04/2020 17:32

Camping. What IS the fucking point? The whole development of the human society for the past couple of millennia: science, art, medicine, decent plumbing... everything that makes modern society worth living has been built on the premise that staying in one secure, defensible, weather-poof place is better than wandering around sleeping under fabric and shitting in a bucket.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 17/04/2020 17:32

@lynsey91

I agree about ceiling lights. My family seem to only be capable of turning in ceiling lights, and try to keep the curtains shut all day. I can't stand it!

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 17/04/2020 17:33

I keep trying olives, expecting that at some point my palate will change and I will suddenly like them. Not happened so far.

Avocadoes are vile, the texture alone is enough to make me want to hurl

Bella444 · 17/04/2020 17:37

Spas. Fine if you have treatments booked but otherwise awful to lay around differently heated water.

AllForAnEasyLife · 17/04/2020 17:37

I really dont like.....

Alcohol
Spicy food
Chinese, indian etc food
Fairground rides
The beach (sand makes my skin crawl)
Other peoples children

MotherWol · 17/04/2020 17:37

I think a lot of mine are due to having some hearing loss, sensory overload and finding large gatherings overwhelming. I can’t really do concerts/live music/clubs, but I also really dislike things like weddings.

I don’t like going swimming with DD - so much noise, I have to take my glasses off so I can’t see, and it’s just wet and annoying. I’m learning to swim on my own and I enjoy that, but being in the kid’s pool is just torture.

Ifonlywecouldwishuponastar · 17/04/2020 17:38

Fawlty Towers and Ab Fab - generally regarded by everyone as classics, but I don’t find them funny

Spa days - never appeal to me

Candles - don’t mind the odd one, but not obsessed with Yankee candles, jo malone Etc

Villa-type holidays - sitting by the beach or pool all day doesn’t appeal to me

VeganVeal · 17/04/2020 17:47

Also agree with camping. What is the point?

It gives you a sense of freedom you just get on other holidays
