Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

Ooh. I forgot the ridiculous false eyelashes!

Poetryinaction · 19/04/2020 23:39

Already said by some I think but-
Pets. Animals a long way away are fine by me, but not in houses that I am in.
Films. I can't sit still and concentrate fir that long.
Central heating. I feel suffocated and hate the constant hum.
Cars. If I can walk, run, cycle, train, bus, boat... better. I hate being confined in a car, always feel sick and have no interest in the consumerist side of it. I have one, I wish I didn't.
Trainers. I am quite claustrophobic and feel trapped in shoes with laces. My feet get hot. Likewise scarves, gloves, hats...
Jewellery. It is a bit pointless, uncomfortable to wear, and the gold industry is not always good.

Yy to detesting hen parties/nights out with crowds of shrieking women. How is that meant to be fun? And being at a disco or a dance that's so loud that you have to constantly shout to be heard and can't hear anything anyone else is saying. Completely pointless and stressful.

Poetryinaction · 19/04/2020 23:41

Oh yes, and snow! Freezing, wet, inconvenient. And you have to wear lots of layers.

ZaZathecat · 19/04/2020 23:45

I hate going to the hairdresser's, or any other kind of beauty/pamper style activity. Always feel uncomfortable and can't wait to leave.

Rainbowb · 19/04/2020 23:47

Harry Potter. Fair play to JK Rowling for all she’s achieved but I cannot be doing with all that muggles and mudheads or whatever they are. There’s just too much geeky knowledge and in-phrases required to be absorbed before you can even claim to be a fan and frankly it’s not worth the effort. It bores me to death and I also hate the name Hermione. It all feels very white middle classish. I also hate adult potter fans who expect you to know what the slogan on their mug is all about and can’t believe you don’t know the elaborate back story of donglenits or shagglewitch or whoever the hell it is.

YesThatIsMyRealName · 20/04/2020 06:22

rainbowb Totally agree with you, it's all just marketing bullshit in my opinion, invent a load of stupid clannish words and then sell a bunch of plastic tat.

As you say, fair play to her because she has obviously done really well but it is not my thing at all.

My DH.

(Only half kidding. We’ve had a row today; I think he’s been utterly unreasonable and I can’t stand the sight of him right now. I’m sure the feeling is mutual, but I DGAF.)

HelloItsmeAgain1 · 07/05/2020 17:52

Summer. So overrated. Maybe if I'm abroad, but that's more because Im on holiday and living an escapist life. Summer at home is dull and feels weird and makes me anxious.
