Things that you're supposed to like, but don't.

What things/foods/activities etc that are supposedly good for you, healthy or "improving" do you dislike?

I really hate being read to, and I hate reading to people. I never particularly enjoyed being read to as a child, though I appreciate that my Mother did so but I think it was a relief to both of us when I was able to read a book by myself. I also don't enjoy reading to people though I used to have to do so when I worked in childcare and as a volunteer role that involved reading aloud. I've no children yet but if I do I can't say that reading to them will be one of my favourite activities.

Walking. I hate walking for the sake of it. I can happily clock up a lot of miles walking through cities and towns when I'm shopping or seeing the sights. Or if there's a lot of wildlife to admire on a country walk, but I don't enjoy walking as an activity. If I go for a walk for the sake of walking I'm aware of every bloody step and find it boring.

Camping: I love nature and wildlife but I much prefer to admire it and then return to a comfortable bed with solid walls and a sturdy roof over my head. Each to their own but I've tried it once and it was hell. Never again.

Dark chocolate. I don't mind a thin layer of dark chocolate with a mint or caramel filling, but I can't eat dark chocolate on its own. I don't care how good it is for you or how unsophisticated it makes me, it is so unpleasantly bitter that I can't enjoy it. I'll stick with milk chocolate.

There's probably more but that will do for now.

Oh and I am not the biggest fan of working at the moment.

[very jealous of colleagues on furlough when i am lying panting and exhausted trying to do their work as well as mine]

bookmum08 · 17/04/2020 19:58

Alcohol
Coffee
Shopping for food
Shopping for clothes
The concept of 'going for a nice meal'
Events like weddings (soooooo boring)
The idea of travelling abroad for a holiday
Christmas Dinner

GreenTeaMug · 17/04/2020 19:59

DH says - beer and other people.

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 17/04/2020 20:00

Afternoon tea - because I'm greedy and only getting a tiny bite of a sandwich or a tiny mini slither of cake just annoys me.

LondonernotinLondon · 17/04/2020 20:00

Soft cheese

Red wine

Festivals

Pulses

Feet

GreenTeaMug · 17/04/2020 20:00

Dh also says Soaps.

he meant Coronaton street and all those other ghastly things.

But for moment I thought he meant of the unguent variety.

Oh and DEFINITELY football.

SpokeTooSoon · 17/04/2020 20:01

For some reason this makes me think of you as a sex worker. Am I close?

GreenTeaMug · 17/04/2020 20:03

No!

[ahem - accountant]

SpokeTooSoon · 17/04/2020 20:03

Coffee. I am quite fascinated by the coffee phenomenon. I watch people drinking it and wonder how they are doing it without wincing.

bookmum08 · 17/04/2020 20:03

Though of some more -
Make up
Jewellery
The thought of having nails or eyebrows done
Handbags

Floralnomad · 17/04/2020 20:05

Alcohol
Second hand / charity shops
Soap operas
Billie Eilish ( I think that’s the spelling)
Baked beans
walking for pleasure without a dog - love walking with a dog
Festivals
Shopping unless I’ve got something specific to buy
Sale rails in shops

Bookoffacts · 17/04/2020 20:06

Shopping, any really. I don't see the appeal.
Especially clothes, shoes, home things, kids clothes and toys and food.
I do it as I live in this world. ☺
Would rather not!

MamaCoco123 · 17/04/2020 20:09

Swimming (so boring)
Avocados (the texture is vile and it tastes of nothing and yet tastes horrible at the same time)
Dark chocolate (leave a horrible taste in the back on my mouth/tongue that's like bitter/manure like)
Hot chocolate (see dark chocolate above!)

Rainbowb · 17/04/2020 20:13

Sex. Hate my body and don’t particularly like anyone else’s either! Could happily live without it!

GreenTeaMug · 17/04/2020 20:15

I'm with you on the sex thing. For me it is at best just another bloody chore.

GreenTeaMug · 17/04/2020 20:18

And tbh I(on the sex thing...) DH is happily retired, we have two DCs one of whom has SEN and I have a very stressful job and a wacking commute.

I don't want anyone to touch me when i am trying to sleep or meant to sleep. Give me 3 days off form everything and a cup of tea on demand and I might think about it, but I am genuinely too exhausted otherwise.

OxfordMum1983 · 17/04/2020 20:21

Alcohol
Green smoothies
Any form of pampering
Family holidays - always soooooo stressful
Sports cars
Boats, anything to do with them
Skiing

I don’t like being read too either.

Tigerlilie · 17/04/2020 20:22

Certain other people's children, can't stand one or two of them but would never let on!!

Another olive and avacado hater,
Wine, beer and lager, yuk.
Swimming pools/the gym,
People other than the few I'm fond of.
Cyclists (or does everyone hate cyclists? Wink)

Tiredmum100 · 17/04/2020 20:51

Dark chocolate

Talking in the phone, unless it's my mum.

Video calls/Skype etc.

All children! I'm glad its not just me. Don't get me wrong I like some, but it based on their personality not on the fact I an friends with their mother!

Winter/autumn.

Hate dimly lit rooms and lamps.

Tomato ketchup.

Bakedpotatoandgin · 17/04/2020 20:51

Social events/ parties with loud music. I'm a sociable person but I can't hear people talking to me and it makes me really stressed and overwhelmed. Why is it necessary?
Cycling. It's uncomfortable, stressful, gives me a sore bum, and I'm clinging on for dear life to avoid falling off.
Posh hotels. A nice clean Premier Inn is as far up the scale as I need to go.
Mushroom soup. Grey and nasty.

Praiseyou · 17/04/2020 20:54

Libraries - all those old well thumbed books. The first joy of a book is breaking the spine.

Spa days make me uncomfortable and porridge (in any form, I'm looking at you "overnight oats") is gak.

Bluebooby · 17/04/2020 20:57

Socialising
Eggs
Anything online with a caption of "aesthetic" or similar
Baked beans
Getting washed. It has to be done but seems impossible to do without being too hot and too cold at least once of each during the process.
The winter

Dieu · 17/04/2020 21:01

OP, I agree with pretty much everything you've put!
I also find strawberries rather overrated. I'm sure they're lovely in warmer countries, all ripe and juicy and sweet, but they just taste of disappointment here.

Bluewavescrashing · 17/04/2020 21:11

Lol at 'people'. I'm inclined to agree though. Since lockdown I've realised my 2 DCs are introverts, like DH and I. They hardly miss their friends at all. We are a family of hermits!

Bluewavescrashing · 17/04/2020 21:13

God yes. My marriage has only survived because we have our own bedrooms with ensuites. Leave me alone 😂❤️
