Getting fit indoors - accountability thread

We have been in lockdown for 6 weeks I think and outdoor activity is very limited. I am getting fatter and creakier! Wondered if anybody else would like an accountability thread to post what exercise you are doing every day? I started off well but lethargy has set in and I am feeling less and less like moving but also not sleeping well so I need someone to get me to buck my ideas up!

*I’ve been doing popsugar fitness videos on YouTube.

If I stopped eating so much, I’d definitely be a size 8. Oh, yeah. Me too.*

I did a, 'Le Sweat' workout on PopSugar yesterday. I just can't relate to it. The instructor and her two buddies keep shouting back and forth to each other. (You got this babe, etc.) They're all far too young, skinny and sculptured !

The PP who remarked that YouTube workouts have been a godsend is absolutely correct.

I'm sifting through several work outs and trying them to see which suits me best.

I start with Rosemary Conley seated workout from an old DVD to get my blood circulating. I've got a dodgy knee so I'm mindful of that.

I then go to Jackie Tally seated workouts. There's 5 of them collected as a series YT so I've saved them and do them one after another. I catch myself liking the soft jazz music on her backing track.

Jenny McLendon presents some good home based exercise sessions. She's very relatable.

HasFit.com workouts seem to work for me.

I spend most of the morning doing low impact aerobics and stretching. The low impact aerobics raises my heart rate enough to the fat burning level - I believe.

For a laugh I, 'reward' myself with a dance. I've got, 'Dance like Nina' which is a Nike + Les Mills Body Jam session. I'm also going to try a, 'Pump it Up' dance session.

I go for a walk with my husband so we can both get some air at lunchtime.

Be Military Fit have a daily thirty minute YT work out which my husband and I do on Saturday.

I managed a walk again today as my foot feels better. Too tired for the extra faster lap of the lake though, we made the mistake of leaving later and it was so hot! I’m breaking out the shorts today. :o

IsolationBoredom · 09/04/2020 13:08

I haven’t done anything today yet Sad
Going to try and do a walk and maybe some skipping. I’m following a programme called body boss I bought ages ago and never started Grin

I did a nice work out in the garden yesterday. Might do that again today. I would like to go on a bike ride but not sure if I'll convince DD to come with me. I'd love to come out of lock down much more toned with a less wobbly belly! I just keep seeing that as my goal.

lubeybooby · 10/04/2020 11:02

I've done 1 hour 54 mins on the elliptical so far this week. So so happy.

Anyone struggling to get motivated, honestly JUST START, the happiness from just getting over that hurdle makes it so much easier to do it again the next day

Tell yourself you'll only do five minutes/give yourself permission to stop after five minutes and I bet you get into it and do more

iVampire · 11/04/2020 20:49

Both yesterday and today I did a notional 5k running on the spot

It uses slightly different muscles to ordinary running, and is rather slower. Bit I’m getting a bit more efficient at it

IsolationBoredom · 12/04/2020 13:05

I haven’t done anything for a few days but did 75 mins pretty high intensity this morning and burned 850 active calories so that makes up for the takeaway on Friday, hopefully!

StudentHelp · 12/04/2020 13:05

Also been managing a walk every day but at dog’s pace so not very fast

LaneBoy · 14/04/2020 07:22

How’s everyone doing? My mood is pretty low at the moment so I’m struggling with motivation. Dragged myself out on a short walk yesterday evening purely to avoid being a hypocrite as I’ve been saying to the DCs how important it is (DH has been taking them out every day for longer walks)

We had a family discussion last night about getting into a routine during this time including the exercise bike and I downloaded Just Dance to sweeten the deal :o

lubeybooby · 14/04/2020 11:55

I'm moving into beast mode on the elliptical - upped the difficulty/resistance today and did 33 mins. I did 31 minutes yesterday. i try and do all different random numbers as I take a pic of the end screen and send it to my (grown up) DD then she knows I'm not just using the same pic each time Grin

I did some pretty hefty gardening all weekend and got as many steps in as I do on the elliptical, so that's a full 9 days now already of moving my ass each day. I feel so much better about EVERYTHING

I don't seem to be able to motivate myself to do anything with my weights yet though but I know I should really. Maybe next week to change it up a bit. Also got a reebok step fitness thingy and a speed skipping rope for some variety

Seventyone72seventy3 · 14/04/2020 12:00

I'm moving into beast mode on the elliptical
Brilliant! I have done two days running now on the exercise bike but it makes my hips hurt so much - not sure if I should contine and power through or find something else?

I might go for a walk this afternoon - haven't been out for a month but think now that bookshops are open I could walk there? I don't really need any books though. Grin

I had a few days of cba then felt yuk so did w3r1 of c25k yesterday outside.

Back to wfh today so did a 30 min hiit first thing. I find if I do it before I start I do it whereas I'm generally too tired to do more than a walk (which I will do after I log off tonight).

Am loving Bodyfit by Amy atm - she does a lot of strength stuff not just cardio which I like and she's not too cheesy or youthful

StudentHelp · 14/04/2020 12:55

Didn’t do anything yesterday other than a very short walk (about 3km) due to it being freezing!
Burned 522 calories during my workout today and might try for a longer walk but still with DDog.

lubeybooby · 15/04/2020 10:46

Today was the first day I felt like 'ugh, again? noo don't wanna' but I managed to trick myself into it by telling myself I'd only do ten minutes. I whacked the difficulty up another level and ended up doing 21 minutes elliptical plus 5 mins with weights doing arm stuff.

I plan on gardening and skipping rope tomorrow for a bit of ass movin' variety

I am wfh as well but I'm finding a good tool for convincing myself to do it is the time it takes me away from the PC and the access to constant news etc. Good for mental health in many ways I think.

lubeybooby · 16/04/2020 12:07

Where is everyone?

Did 40 mins gardening today which was fairly intense as the hedgetrimmer is heavy and lot of it to do... plus lots of steps back and forth to garden bin, putting it as far away from me as poss on purpose... neighbours probably think I'm nuts... and then 10 mins on elliptical on an actual program that nearly killed me off

One shower later though and I'm feeling really good. Only just having breakfast as I'm also trying to 16:8 IF and I find I work out better when still fasted.

StudentHelp · 16/04/2020 16:13

I managed a walk yesterday and did a 20 minute workout today but I hurt my knee doing burpees Grin so I had to stop! Was hoping to do more like an hour.

Oh well, I’ll try again tomorrow

LaneBoy · 16/04/2020 16:21

I’m gutted today. Went for a lovely walk with the family yesterday, really lucky that we could do that (tiny hidden nature reserve) but since then I’ve been totally knackered. ME symptoms flaring up and feel totally demotivated now.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 16/04/2020 19:28

Where is everyone?

Well I'm still here but tbh I started this thread for ideas about fitness indoors - but 90% of people are posting about going for walks which just makes me feel envious and cranky so I am trying not to think about what I am missing out on! Walking was my main form of exercise before lockdown and I really, really miss it. Trying to get into other things but it's just not the same. Sad

I’m so sorry Seventy 💐 I have been on a few different threads mentioning exercise and I forgot to focus my answer on indoor stuff here. 😣

I’m going to try and get on the exercise bike briefly tonight and hopefully longer tomorrow.

And I really have zero excuse for not using my hand weights 😳

WaterIsWide · 16/04/2020 20:15

This morning, thanks to YouTube I did:

Seated aerobics by Jackie Tally
Paul Eugene - Turbo Chair Workout
HasFit.com
Dance a Mile with Abba sound track
Dance Like Nina

It took me 2 hours. I do that Monday to Thursday in the morning.

Friday I have a rest day and get the groceries.

Seventyone72seventy3 · 16/04/2020 20:16

No need to apologise! I am definitely feeling crankier than normal and I am glad that some people can enjoy the great outdoors. I suppose the one (and only?) advantage of the exercise bike is that you can watch Netflix while you're pedaling. Still boring though! (And I have neglected the handweights too!)

@Wateriswide
2 hours! Wow, that is dedication. I am going to look those up - I need a bit of variety in my very boring routine.

WaterIsWide · 16/04/2020 20:22

You're welcome. I need variety or I will get bored. Thank God for YouTube.

lubeybooby · 17/04/2020 10:46

Just did a 20 minute youtube step workout and I put ankle weights on and added dumbells - it was a jenny ford one if anyone wants a look. She says you can do it without a step if you don't have one

LaneBoy · 19/04/2020 14:22

2 hours! Wow that’s amazing.

Did another short yoga video this morning. I did shopping yesterday and feel like a train hit me overnight Hmm so it was good to stretch. Hopefully I can manage longer ones soon. Funny that I was happily managing a 90 min class before this Confused

Yes definitely doing the exercise bike in front of something to watch! Keep meaning to look up rollercoaster videos on YouTube as well as it’ll be like cycling on the track 😂
