Here continues the tale of the Robbing Butcher, his whimsical opening hours, and TheMustressMhor's daily quest for his finest produce.

Hope everyone is well or getting so this morning. I have a headache but no fever. Self isolation would be easier if I was feeling on top form. Might have a crack at a jigsaw today, instead of watching the same news over and over.

I could clean but....

I have it on good authority that TheMustress has replenished sherry supplies, so as long as we all promise to sit two metres apart it's business as usual at Frogmhor Cottage. I will bring individually wrapped nibbles.

TheMustress has most likely set up camp outside the Robbing Butcher's premises, to be at the front of the queue for square sausage (the superior kind).

7Penguins · 18/03/2020 12:28

Thank you for the updates, Mischief - I hope the headache clears ASAP and it’s nothing serious.

We are doing okay - Mr Worfs is fully WFH until further notice. He’s got a scratchy throat, no cough or fever... yet.

I’m waiting to hear from my new employer about how will I start on 1st April. I suggested they courier me the stuff, I really don’t want to commute into London in the midst of the plague.

@PenguinOrHippo I hope your girl and the whole family are doing better?

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 18/03/2020 13:46

How's everyone? I have cut the grass, yay me, and it looks a damn sight better for it. DD1 is sitting in Geneva airport, having crossed the border successfully, yay her. Considering buying one of those painters' overalls to bring her home in!!

7 commuting into London not a good idea. hippo you are all feeling better.

7Penguins · 18/03/2020 15:14

Back from shops. Sainsbury's stripped of the stuff you'd expect, but also all milk, eggs, all vegetables and most fruit. Interestingly, plenty of tinned tomatoes, and they were also 50% off.
M&S had a bit of milk, no eggs at all, and an OK amount of veg and fruit.

As the memes go, it's ink cartridge and light bulbs stew for dinner. Grin

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 17:09

Good to hear DD is steadily making her way home, yolo. You must be on your nerves waiting for updates.

Your Sainsbury's experience sounds similar to mine, 7, although the tinned tomatoes situation is baffling. All of our supermarkets are stripped of any tomato based products, passata, tinned toms, puree, everything. Wonder if it's regional?

Tonight we are having a slow cooked curry of everything I have found in the back of the fridge that needs eating or binning. I've also found some pouches of cooked lentils that were best before 04/19. Also a couscous and roasted veg pouch that should have been eaten in 2015. What d'ya reckon?

7Penguins · 18/03/2020 18:36

If it’s just veg and pulses it might be okay 🤔

Have you run out of food completely? I’m sure we can each ship you ingredients for 1-2 dinners if needed?

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 19:02

All good for food here. We have a few bits missing but lots of stuff in the store cupboard so no shortage, or likely to be for the foreseeable. I'm more of a hoarder than I think, apparently!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 19:04

But thank you for the thought, 7, really lovely of you.

It does look like the supermarkets are getting a hold of the situation so hopefully nobody should be without.

PenguinOrHippo · 18/03/2020 20:33

Hi everyone, thank you so much for thinking of me. I was feeling better today, so have been trying to entertain the little Hippos all day, phew!!!

BigGirlHippo seems better. The cough never really took off, temperature is normal, but she has had the most awful headache for three days now, slightly better today. Mischief , hope your head is better. These are awful times.

The supermarket situation sounds awful! We have a Tesco delivery booked for Saturday. I am getting a bit worried.... we do have groceries though, and loo roll! It will work’

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 18/03/2020 21:00

glad to hear that hippo. 7 did you ever get the dishwasher tablets? if not msg me your address and I will post you some xx

DD1 home, very tired, crabby and sad at leaving all her friends. Does not appear to have terrible virus, but who knows?? I have Wine after 4.5 hour round trip to airport.

7Penguins · 18/03/2020 21:25

Welcome home to yoloDD1! Not ideal circumstances, but family is now fully reunited - must be a great relief. Smile

I found dishwasher tablets, thank you very much for offering, yolo. I am hoping, as Mischief said, that supermarkets are going to stamp out crazy behaviour and will have full shelves within a week or two.

Just today nursery staff was telling me that they won't close unless ordered by the government, then BAM, the update... I guess they'll email all parents tomorrow.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 21:25

Sounds like things are improving for you hippo, thank goodness. My headache was t too bad in the end, it went after a few hours. No idea what it was, maybe dehydrated? DD bought me a water bottle with the time of day marked on it. Highly recommended, I am much better at remembering to drink water now.

Yolo you've earned that Wine!

7Penguins · 18/03/2020 21:27

Lovely to read your update, Hippo. Is Mr Hippo isolated elsewhere still?

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 21:30

The curry worked out well. DH managed seconds with no trouble at all. There were all sorts of ingredients that are going to disrupt his innards so we will both be paying for it tonight 😟😷😆

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 18/03/2020 21:32

Oops, apologies for the non MN emojis. Faux pas, apparently.

PenguinOrHippo · 18/03/2020 21:32

Welcome back Yolo DD!! I am so happy she made it home, I am getting increasingly worried about a complete lockdown.

Mischief , so good news regarding your headache! BigGirlHippo was drinking so much water, so for her it was something else, but dehydration is awful for headaches.

7 , so happy you found the tablets. Do you know, the weirdest thing happened to me.... after confessing my total dependence on the dishwasher the other day... ours broke this morning Sad. I am trying to take it in my stride, but it is hard. Thinking about getting the little hippos involved in drying the dishes.

PenguinOrHippo · 18/03/2020 21:36

I like the sound of that curry!!!

Mr Hippo needs to get some work in this week, but will stop after tomorrow and then we will just lock ourselves in together I think. Statistically, I am the most at risk (and given years of experience he is the one who always stay healthy), so it should be fine. Cannot wait to just feel a bit safer together. These are really unsettling times.

WaddiMiss · 19/03/2020 21:38

I hope everyone is ok today?

I have survived another day at the germ pit that is the hospital.
It was very quiet, the calm before the storm and boy am i dreading the storm!

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 19/03/2020 22:10

Let's hope the storm doesn't materialise, WaddiMiss (although I realise that's a vain hope).

Thank you in advance to everyone who has no option but to turn up to work to keep the nation going.

7Penguins · 19/03/2020 22:32

I am hoping too that the mass self-isolation will ensure a trickle of patients instead of tsunami... feel so bad for all essential staff, from NHS to shop assistants.

Meanwhile at Useless Desk Jobs Central, my update is (I tried to post it earlier but MN ate it) - agreed to start on 1st April, will have laptop and mobile delivered to my house. But the nursery is closing. So Mr Worfs and I will have to rota, maybe 2 hours work then 2 hours childcare... days will be very long!

Oh also Sainsbury’s sneakily released many delivery slots for this weekend! Bagged a green slot for Saturday morning. Hoping for milk and eggs.

WaddiMiss · 20/03/2020 06:58

I have a vain hope too My its the only way to stay positive i think.

In a way im kind of glad i have to go to work, it is a legitimate reason to leave the house and i walk to work so i get some exercise (desperately needed!!).

I think i feel more for those in the supermarkets, they must be dealing with some really rude horrible people!

7 hopefully it wont be too bad! I couldnt imagine trying to work with kids running around. Toddle Wadi doesnt give me a moments peace!

Ooo thats exciting about Sainsbury's 🤞 you get your bits!

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 20/03/2020 08:46

Morning all. Self-isolation and even social distancing not working all that well here. Mr yolo still going to work, although tbf is isolated in his office and staff instructed not to go near him, and they're all in and out of the building all day anyway. DD1 not enjoying herself at all, but has promised to clear the shitpit that it is her bedroom - chance will be a fine thing. DD2 is bored after a week wfh, but her boyf back now from his uni - and going to work for DH today. I'm actually fine, but then I'm normally quite isolated anyway. Just wish the weather would improve so I can do more in the garden...

Hope all you sick people are feeling better, and waddi thank you to you and your colleagues Flowers

7Penguins · 20/03/2020 09:24

Morning! My friend left me flabbergasted this morning - she and a friend are going on a road trip! 🤦🏻‍♀️
Londoners need to be locked up, I swear.
Waddi hoping for a quiet day for you! Are you in London and/or working with corona patients?

WaddiMiss · 20/03/2020 12:41

Yolo hopefully the weather will pick up soon, it makes a world of difference just being able to go in the garden and hang washing out.
How come your dh is still working? (Sorry if i missed an explanation).
Thank you! Though my department is just doing our normal job.

7 what is wrong with people!! Its making me ragey the people who arnt taking it seriously. If your not worried about yourself be worried about the people you infect!

Im in Essex about 30 minutes from London by train (probably outing but who cares 😂). Im in the pharmacy so not near patients really and no where near any corona people (i think, they could be anywhere!). We are quiet at the moment but im pretty sure that will change if/when the numbers go up.
We have been told to prepare for long hours! For me that wont be so bad im part time so im a bit more refreshed if that makes sense.

OVienna · 20/03/2020 20:48

I'm surviving. I'm not sure I'm thriving. DH bearing up with the redundancy. We were counting on interim placements. Yikes, the school closures. Anyway. I have wine. I'll get onto that blog later.
