Here continues the tale of the Robbing Butcher, his whimsical opening hours, and TheMustressMhor's daily quest for his finest produce.

Cheers to yolo for Mr Yolo's good news, and big hugs to 7.

Almost a relief now actual lockdown's been announced, I'm only going out for DH's meds (COPD and cardiac patient) and fresh food but lots of pushing and shoving in my local London Aldi so wearing gloves and removing gloves, shoes and coat and disinfecting them in porch before going inside with the small amount of fresh stuff I've been able to get. The new normal! And it's not fun - thank goodness for this huddle, lovely fellow penguins keep me going.

Here's a joke making the rounds:
Q: How’s the home schooling going?
A: “Home schooling is going great, two students suspended for fighting and one teacher fired for drinking on the job“.

Hope everyone's wine deliveries turn up! Night night all, keep safe.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 23/03/2020 23:49

I'm very late to the thread today but wow, what brilliant news yolo!

7Penguins · 24/03/2020 07:39

Morning, we coslept so feeling better, thank you all.

I felt very sad because I’ve let him cry (whilst being next to him and trying to comfort him). I’m really worried that I’ve damaged him for life. It’s probably happened no more than 5 times in his 10 months of life - please tell me I didn’t cause irreversible psychological damage Sad

Hippo I think an online consultation might be worth it? I’ve always had that included in my company medical insurance but never used it.
I remember having all kinds of weird ailments as a child that worried me, but eventually they went away.

Sending 2m away hugs to all. Flowers

WaddiMiss · 24/03/2020 08:04

7 i promise you you have not damaged him for life! The fact you were next to him and he could feel you means he was comforted (just ragey he couldnt get his own way 😂) and knew you were there 😊
Im glad your feeling a bit better 7!

Cleansup that does not sound like fun! What is wrong with people?!
That home schooling joke always makes me laugh, if my son was older that would be me 😂

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 24/03/2020 16:28

I've just done my bit for my local community. Selected 4 neighbours, dropped off 2 eggs for a single person, 4 for a couple and 6 for the couple with 3 kids. With a note attached saying that if they wanted more to just drop their (named) boxes back in the porch and I will deliver more as and when. Hopefully I have not contaminated anyone, but we have too many eggs, and I gather they are hard to buy.

7Penguins · 24/03/2020 17:16

Nice one, yolo! I wish you were my neighbour Grin

WaddiMiss · 24/03/2020 19:32

Yolo thats amazing!!

I wish you were my neighbour too! I could do with some eggs 😂

PenguinOrHippo · 24/03/2020 21:15

Yolo, that is so kind! You are an amazing neighbour!

7 please don’t worry. He will be fine. I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The only thing may be that if you are anxious (the situation outside is so unsettling), he may pick up on your worry. Please don’t put additional pressure on yourself. Whatever you do will be fine as long as he knows he is loved.

7Penguins · 24/03/2020 21:26

Thank you, Hippo. I've calmed down after speaking to a sleep consultant and deciding not to let him cry (whinging allowed, but anything more and I'll be picking him up before it escalates).

I hope BigGirlHippo's headache is easing up?

PenguinOrHippo · 24/03/2020 21:54

7 , that is great, sounds like you have a plan!

BigGirlHippo is better, thank you. We did yoga this morning and she had an ok day. She is feeling poorly this evening again, but overall better than yesterday. Fingers crossed for an improving trend 🙏

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 24/03/2020 22:25

Sorry for those of you with poorly or unsettled babes. I expect this flies in the face of all the current advice but I would just let go of any attempt at routine and just go with the flow. Let's face it, most of us will have given up operating to much of a timetable.

Thinking of your DD, yolo, you must be so relieved to have her home as things have panned out. Pity those poor families with DC stranded overseas. We have friends stuck in NZ, they've found the FCO useless in terms of up to date information, advice and resources.

7Penguins · 25/03/2020 09:58

I bring good news - Sainsbury’s in my town have almost recovered from the panic buying and online deliveries are available every day.

I hope the trend reaches your towns very soon Brew Cake

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 25/03/2020 11:46

That's excellent news 7 we are dangerously low on red Wine!

I agree with letting the routine slide, we're all having to do it...

CleansUpPenguinPoo · 25/03/2020 13:02

Me too, am in London - this is the message I get:
We’re prioritising vulnerable customers for delivery
We’re really sorry, but we haven’t been able to identify you as one of our elderly, vulnerable or disabled customers.

We’ve expanded our Click & Collect service to more locations, so you can still order online and collect from one of our stores.
Have we got it wrong?
We’ve already been able to identify some of our vulnerable customers through the information that we have about them. But we know that we haven’t identified everyone.

We’re working hard, alongside the government and retail industry, to identify more of them.

If you’re elderly, disabled or vulnerable and think you should be on our vulnerable customer list, please get in touch.

Call us 0800 328 1700

My DH has severe COPD, when I call that number to get us changed to vulnerable, I get a recording referring me back to the website and saying they can't take any calls right now, try later. Been like that for weeks now.
You can't do it on line, and there aren't any click&collect slots either. So I'm just going to have to go out for fresh food, bread, milk, will do it on Friday when I collect his meds - if they're ready, our GP centre is running behind, we have enough through to next Tuesday.

But heartened by good news from fellow penguins, yolo nice one on giving away eggs, 7 enjoy choosing lovely things for Sbys to deliver, Hippo happy to hear BigGirlHippo is showing some improvement, and virtual hugs all round the huddle.

7Penguins · 25/03/2020 13:42

London is probably the worst affected Sad
Is it possible to add a new address of a town you could drive to, and see if there’s click and collect there?

CleansUpPenguinPoo · 25/03/2020 17:24

Amazingly, we had a surprise knock on the door an hour ago and a girl in mask and NHS tabard handed me the big bag of meds I was expecting to collect at the chemist on Friday. Looks like some of these 400,000 NHS volunteers have already started work! The corner shop down the road has got in extra bread, milk, loo rolls as well as limited fruit & veg. I called them and they're keeping some for me to pick up tomorrow, so we'll be ok. Years of buying my Radio Times every week from the corner shop has paid off - think I'll be using them more in future.

Myimaginarypenguinhasfleas · 25/03/2020 21:58

Great that your corner shop will help out, Cleansup. Local businesses seem to be coming up trumps all over the place. I really hope people remember this when the crisis has passed. That when the supermarket shelves were stripped bare, you could still find a loaf of bread and some milk, and probably a loo roll, at a shop if not on your street corner then pretty near.

We've had B&Bs and local hotels offering serviced rooms for people who want to self isolate but not feel cut off and alone, bakeries selling fresh bread baked to order, farms putting together veg boxes with free delivery.

I'd like to think the next few weeks might see a change back to a more community focused way of life.

CleansUpPenguinPoo · 25/03/2020 23:52

I agree, fleas, this could be the making of us. Certainly bringing out the best or the worst in people! I definitely will be patronising my local shop more.

Meantime, Sainsburys have updated their website giving the .gov link to register as vulnerable for priority delivery slots, and taking the belt-and-braces approach, I've signed up:

www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:05

WHERE IS MY SHERRY DELIVERY?

The Mustress Mhor has returned to give you some terrible news.

The Mustress ordered great quantities of sherry from Amazon. The shipment has been lost in transit.

Mr. Mhor fainted from the shock. He is wondering if I will ask to share his cans of beer.

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 11:07

So if anyone lives near Hellaby (which is where the sherry got to in its vexed journey to Mhor Cottage) there may possibly be a very drunk UPS delivery driver in your area.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 26/03/2020 12:03

Yay mustress!!! damn shame about the sherry though...

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 12:06

Ah, yolo - I think it was you who had the keys to Mhor Cottage while I was (ahem) in prison?

Can you explain where the two bottles of Bristol Cream have got to? They were beside the unused patio slabs in the shed.

Perhaps you have just moved them. I am sure you (and other posters on this thread) would not have drunk my sherry.

I have faith in you all.

yoloPenguinsEatfish · 26/03/2020 12:08

I put them safekeeping underneath the love seat - check with the cat?

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 12:08

A SHOCKING DISCOVERY

Not only the two bottles of Bristol Cream - but six cases of Co - Op own brand cheapo sherry seem to have disappeared.

I am sure there is a credible explanation.

TheMustressMhor · 26/03/2020 12:09

Under the love seat, yolo?

"Check with the cat?"

Hmm
