Is anyone else experiencing this? Not a single slot as far as the calendar goes (3rd April)

Ocado’s website is down due to high traffic.

The world’s gone mad!

sunflower1201 · 15/03/2020 13:18

I'm in isolation and couldn't get a spot at any supermarket until next Friday. We are lucky that family can bring us some bits but I know everyone isn't that lucky. Managed to get an Iceland delivery for mid next week as that was all there was. On the up side, a very cheap shop!!! If you are able to go out I think that you should be going to the shops so that vulnerable people can actually get food in...

Crunchymum · 15/03/2020 13:23

Once we start to see vast numbers of people self isolating, then yes there is going to have to be some sort of system to allow those who cant go out to get deliveries (I realise this is a huge change of heart to my ranting yesterday!)

Thing is, shops aren't coping with the demand either so whilst I'd forgo my delivery if I knew I could actually get my shopping, I currently can't take that chance. I've got a Morrison's slot for the 28th and by then we'll be in need of store cupboard supplies etc.

If all the over-70's in the entire country have to self-isolate for weeks, then online shopping is going to implode. My parents are doing it for the first time this week, they won't be the only ones, I don't think there's any reason to think people are being selfish with booking- perhaps booking more than a week ahead should no longer be allowed and everyone has to check out within a day of booking so there is no holding of slots just in case. Something will have to change as there is just no way online shopping can keep up. Amazon might be a good bet for some stuff as they have a good network of drivers/used to doing next day delivery.

All this fannying about taking out one item at a time because we can't use bags will also have to stop, it's so time-consuming! And bags hve to be used for self-isolating customers as the food has to be left outside and the driver have no contact.

Morrisons doesn't require you to sign for your delivery, no idea why the others do, could stop that immediately.

Crunchymum · 15/03/2020 13:33

I think there definitely needs to be limitations.

No more than one slot a week, no booking more than a week in advance, as well as stock limitation too.

Isn't it ironic that in a country prided for its freedom, we'll all soon be begging for rations!!!

No more than one slot a week, no booking more than a week in advance, as well as stock limitation too.

So, you can have shopping come once a week, if you can get a slot, and then you can’t order a full shop? There are people who literally NEED to be able to buy things that already struggle to get shopping week by week without this virus driving everyone potty.

They need to actually think about limitations relating to household needs and stop blind “only two of this” “only two of that”. They should adapt it for disabled people, elderly, small vs large households, etc. For example, Tesco is limiting toilet roll to two per household. But you can buy two massive packs. So when only small packs are left, you can only get two of those. People who need toilet roll for medical issues are shafted there. And that’s just one example.

TankGirl97 · 15/03/2020 14:01

I can't get a Sainsbury's delivery either. Normally get one every Friday but there's nothing available for three weeks.
They are going to have to very quickly create a system which only allow slots to be booked by people over 70 or with underlying health conditions. The rest of us will have to brave the shops.

IsAnybodyListening · 15/03/2020 15:51

I wonder if you live near me Crunchymum I had the exact same thing this morning. I thought the online calendar was broke!

Managed to get an ASDA delivery for the 22nd. No bloody loo rolls online though!

sleepismysuperpower1 · 15/03/2020 16:13

@TankGirl97 try Iceland, they seem to have some

Piecarumba · 15/03/2020 16:16

Same here, earliest I can get is in 7 days time. I was told today an acquaintance has booked one slot a week for the next month, which although smart is probably not helping this situation!

BretonKitten · 15/03/2020 16:18

Same here, nothing at all for the entire three weeks open. It looks to be me like they are implementing some kind of slot management.

AlunWynsKnee · 15/03/2020 16:23

None here either. I have a delivery pass too and I am likely to be in the group that has to stay home.

dudsville · 15/03/2020 16:27

Ha, I feel I need to apologise. My post above is true, I was able to get a delivery and there were lots of deliveries available. I just logged in and there are no deliveries for three weeks. I've just created a new account with a new shop and got a delivery in 6 days, which is ideal, but it was also the last slot on that date. At least they have later dates as well - worth trying all the shops that might deliver to you.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 15/03/2020 16:50

None when I checked (I've looked a couple of times , just re-checked now . Next 3 weeks are showing as N/A)

I'm guessing they have to juggle food availability and staff to pack and drive .

The Bagless Delivery will need to amend as well if they're going to Deliver&Drop .

DryHeave · 15/03/2020 17:01

Annoyed about this as I have a delivery pass - so have in effect pre-paid.

goldfinchfan · 15/03/2020 17:08

I have to shop online as I am housebound and very ill. No car or transport. No one nearby to shop for me.

If i can't get the order online I also have no other options.

Inthemuckheap · 15/03/2020 17:19

I have seen a large number of people on this forum over the past couple of weeks all proud because they've booked several weeks worth of delivery slots by bunging any old stuff in just to guarantee their delivery. Epitome of I'm all right Jack attitude.

Littleposh · 15/03/2020 17:31

What makes you think that you deserve the deliveries more than anyone else?? Never seen such selfish, privileged crap before. This thread is everything that is wrong with people nowadays. Genuinely sickened by some people's attitudes

Butterwhy · 15/03/2020 17:33

I doubt people are booking multiple online deliveries for the same week. There's no advantage to that, just more people using them.

JingsMahBucket · 15/03/2020 17:36

Guess this makes the preppers look not so foolish now, eh?

Standrewsschool · 15/03/2020 17:40

Haven’t manage to get into Ocado all day. They’ve put a sign up saying they are not taking any new customers.

Crunchymum · 15/03/2020 18:15

@Littleposh

Have you actually read the thread?

Firstly I have mobility issues and secondly I do realise things have moved on and delivery slots should be given to those who are going to be "recommended" to self isolate or those with symptoms who need to self isolate.

Being in an at risk group myself, I'd prefer not to have to go to the supermarket but if I have to I will.

But yeah thanks for your twopence worth and the fact is, as more people need to self isolate, it's not going to magic slots up is it?

OP posts:
sleepingpup · 15/03/2020 18:20

A week or so ago a supermarket spokesman pointed out that delivery is only 6-13%
of business. And they can't just magic up new vans!

You can do the maths as more and more people self isolate.

How many times on MN have I heard people saying "I'll just get a delivery...."

Cremebrule · 15/03/2020 20:51

I tried to get my vulnerable parents a slot today and it was virtually impossible. It has made me worried about how the system will cope with self isolation at a large scale. They did eventually manage to get one for 3 weeks time but the whole process has made them even more worried.

TheGreatWave · 15/03/2020 21:01

I think Sainsbury's have suspended new slots, it seems too far fetched that every slot is filled. I think they have either cancelled deliveries or limiting how many deliveries per slot, due to concerns about either stock or staff levels.

When you can actually get on to Ocado they do have slots available, certainly a very big choice for week beginning the 23rd.
