Is anyone else experiencing this? Not a single slot as far as the calendar goes (3rd April)

And for those criticising me for daring to ask the question, I have now had a response.

They don’t actually know, and there is no way of stoppping the system from being exploited.

So yes, lip service only.

sleepingpup · 18/03/2020 17:51

Glad to see you are bringing a spirit of positivity to all of this@ AlternativePerspective . Do you know how ridiculous you sound?

The super markets are struggling to cope with massive massive unprecedented demand, workers are going round the clock, the situation is changing daily and you were moaning they hadn't replied to you. To explain their plan. Dear god. Get a GRIP!

I shudder to think of the time and resources wasted to tell you, Ms AngryAlternative Perspective that they will let you know WHEN THEY KNOW.

Have you tried to turn around a nationwide grocery business, using complicated tech and fine tune deliveries to a massive scale ( previously only 6-13 % of business) with many of your staff off work, in a matter of days.?

No Didn't think so.

HazelBite · 18/03/2020 18:22

The first slot available for my ASDA delivery is April 5th.
On the last delivery I had (Thursday last week) the driver said they had been delivering to people who normally shop online with Sainsbury as they had closed the slots!

64sNewName · 18/03/2020 18:24

Joining thread as I’m trying to get a slot for my elderly parents (living far from me). I don’t normally do online food shops. Nothing to be had at Tesco for three weeks :/

TheWordWomanIsTaken · 18/03/2020 18:39

There’s really no simple answer to any of this is there. I’m not vulnerable. I have to keep working to deal with the deaths that are expected Sad and I can’t get a slot nor has there been any food in store any time I’ve managed to get in to a supermarket.
Those of us who are expected to keep public services going should be able to eat as well. And I’m not saying I take priority. I’m saying that people should stop acting like dicks and clearing stock as soon as it goes on the shelves. We all need food.

AnyFucker · 18/03/2020 18:42

None at all available for Morrisons

weatherchannel · 18/03/2020 22:30

This is not on its shocking how many people are struggling already.

I have a sainsburys delivery pass with I can't use.
Currently stuck at home in a small village a fracture foot and a partner in an at risk category. I have a slot for 22nd as I always book in advance.
But not hopeful we will get what we ordered last weeks had 16 subsitions and 6 with no alternatives available. No delivery slot available thats how I found this thread :(

Some food is available from amazon pantry they use Morrisons. Worth a go

I'm inclined to agree with @AlternativePerspective

It's a good idea in principle but there is no way of executing it (or at least no fast way?)

My DC3 is disabled, does this mean as her carer I get to shop on her behalf [high rate DLA] because she is to young herself?

Are the "elderly" being asked to prove their age?

How will it work????

No slots as far as April here (north east) either.

I'm just going to keep checking and crossing my fingers.

I've been really careful not to "over-buy", and actually sent some flour back this morning from my delivery, because I'd accidentally ordered two, and I thought "Someone else can use that" - now I'm half-wishing I'd kept it.

Crunchymum · 18/03/2020 22:53

Fucking Hell, Abbie from Sainsburys obviously hasn't been on the shop floor recently???

That is a lot of good faith to put in humanity !!

@AlternativePerspective

I'm sorry I lost my temper. I hope you sort out a delivery.

Paliex · 22/03/2020 18:21

Only about 6 or 7 percent of shoppers solely did their food shopping online until a few weeks ago. So scaling up the deliveries to probably 10 times that is not easy to do quickly. That's the issue with not getting a slot. The lack of food fundamentally comes down to the panic buyers. Problem is, if you have waited 2 weeks for a slot, like us, then you need double the food than usual in one go!

Yes I only got three quartwers of my normal order today, My next order is on 7th April, quite what I am supposed to do until then?

I had to send DS out to buy me water (I can't drink tap water) cos ASDA would only allow me three bottles!

dorapicasso · 22/03/2020 20:03

@hazelbite why can't you drink tap water?

LBOCS2 · 22/03/2020 20:14

Try now - our local Sainsbury's appears to have released the ones which haven't been taken by vulnerable people for tomorrow...

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 22/03/2020 20:18

I have a Sainsbury delivery pass l can’t use either. I have contacted them about this, but they’ve not replied. Guess there’s no time.

I live in a big city. Can’t get any slots at any supermarkets at all for 3 weeks

HazelBite · 22/03/2020 22:34

@dorapicasso I wish I could drink tapwater, it brings me out in a rash which turn to sore blisters if I don't stop.
Not being able to get enough bottled water is a bit of a worry at the moment. I made some tea the other day with some flat lemonade it was very "interesting"

Paliex · 23/03/2020 05:46

Sounds like you're sensitive to chlorine. I used to sample tap water for a living. You could try to put tap water in a glass (not plastic or metal) jug or bowl covered with a tea towel in fridge overnight and that should get rid of it. There may be a tiny bit of residual. So the only way to fully know would be to get an accurste monitor. But it would mean less hassle of buying bottle water.

dorapicasso · 23/03/2020 06:59

@HazelBite that must be very difficult. For so many it's a lifestyle choice; there should be a way of putting some aside for people like you.

Curious78 · 23/03/2020 07:09

For as long as people are physically able to, I don't think there should be any ordering of groceries being done online until this passes. Leave the slots for the ones who can't leave their house through isolation.

AlternativePerspective · 23/03/2020 07:13

@ sleepingpup no worries :)

It seems sainsburys may be releasing slots a day in advance now as I had a frantic phone call from DP saying he’d looked and there were slots available for today so I booked one. Whether it will materialise or how much of what I’ve ordered will be in it remains to be seen.

Iceland are doing the same but doing deliveries for the elderly/vulnerable only.

middleager · 23/03/2020 07:23

I put a Tesco order in for today three weeks ago. It was removed last night with no email.

I gather the supermarkets are all prioritising slots for the elderly and vulnerable.

What do people do who are SI? Who don't drive?

Curious78 · 23/03/2020 07:41

@AlternativePerspective I thought Sainsbury's were releasing slots starting today for the elderly/vulnerable. I guess they aren't monitoring that.
