Is anyone else experiencing this? Not a single slot as far as the calendar goes (3rd April)

Guess this makes the preppers look not so foolish now, eh?

We have the option of click and collect as well as Delivery. It involves minimal contact. This is with Tesco.

Can I suggest that those not self isolating and who have transport switch to those instead?

Beckynoodles · 17/03/2020 10:08

@AvocadosBeforeMortgages thanks for your advice and offer of help, think I’ve managed to sort for them with Tesco, initially at least.

sadatchristmas1 · 17/03/2020 22:53

I have a reoccurring slot for home delivery have done for nearly a year. I am a single mum to 4 kids and work full time. I don't drive. I am not being selfish in pre booking my slots, I do feel sorry for people who suddenly need home shopping and can't get it. But don't blame the people who have always used the service.

AlternativePerspective · 17/03/2020 22:57

The supermarkets need to start limiting deliveries to one active slot per address at a time.

Yes, pre-booking more than one slot is selfish and supermarkets should be cracking down on it.

CornflakeBreath · 18/03/2020 01:39

Yeah, let’s punisj the people who can only afford little and often rather than one massive shop :/

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 01:54

Nobody is punishing anyone. Fact is those people who can “only afford little” are taking away the ability for anyone else to have anything.

Doesn’t matter how much someone can afford, if they have no ability to buy anything they will be just as hungry as those who have had the luxury of bulk booking delivery slots.

I don’t really care what someone else can’t afford if they’re too selfish to consider anyone else.

There are people who are genuinely stuck at home with no support. And there are literally no delivery slots available. But you carry on bulk booking delivery slots to make sure others go without.

CornflakeBreath · 18/03/2020 03:42

I am one of those people stuck at home with no support. I rely on these deliveries for my shopping week in and week out. I have a low income because I can’t work. Do I have permission to be concerned about my deliveries now? Or am I still selfish?

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 06:05

Yes.

everyone needs to be taken into account here. There will be others with limited income who won’t be able to get one delivery slot because people like you have chosen to book several.

As much as it’s selfish to bulk buy toilet rolls and hand sanitiser and God knows what else, it is selfish to book up multiple delivery slots. It essentially amounts to the same thing.

Ameows · 18/03/2020 07:50

Admittedly I did book 3 appointments in advance but that was actually before the coronavirus kicked off. I always get my delivery's at 9-10pm on a Thursday and book well in advance. I don't have a car I only own a motorcycle and live a long walk to the shop and I can't carry all of my weekly shop as it's too heavy and won't fit on the bike. If I had a car I would be going into the store and doing my weekly shop and I am buying my normal stuff. I went into the shop at the weekend to pick up the bits that I rejected the substitutes for and I really didn't have a problem with that but I just can't manage the whole weekly shop. It's people deviating from their usual habits that industry cannot cater for, so if you are booking usual appointments and carrying on as usual, I don't see the issue. But if you have a car and you aren't suffering from the coronavirus, use click and collect or go into the store and wash your hands before you go in and on the way out.

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 08:12

Well apparently sainsburys are going to be putting in restrictions from today.

I am at home, am at-risk and I use Sainsburys all the time, but now I can’t get a delivery slot on any of the supermarkets for the foreseeable future.

The thing is that it’s clearly most people who are deviating from their normal habits as slots are usually available on the same day or day thereafter. So clearly multiple people are booking multiple slots.

It’s the online equivalent of stock piling.

sadatchristmas1 · 18/03/2020 08:37

@AlternativePerspective people who have pre booked slots are just trying to feed their families. As I've said I've had my slot the same day and time for nearly a year. Why should I cancel my slot so other people can have it?

CornflakeBreath · 18/03/2020 09:17

now I can’t get a delivery slot on any of the supermarkets for the foreseeable future

Aaaah, so now the real reason for your attitude problem towards people who rely on these deliveries week in and week out and have had the gall to stick to their same slots as usual.

I’d suggest that wanting disabled people to have no food and no way of getting food for the sake of yourself getting some is more selfish then said disabled people booking their usual slots that they rely on.

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 10:51

What are you on about?

For the record, I am disabled. I also have a serious heart condition and need a heart transplant.

Unfortunately in these times everyone has to change their habits, and that includes not booking multiple delivery slots. Just like some people are, you know, required to stay at home, as I and thousands of others are.

I can’t get any food because there are no delivery slots available on any of the supermarket website. So yes, I do think that people being able to get food is more important than being able to block book delivery slots.

But apparently sainsburys at least are going to be restricting deliveries from today so that’s a start.

In the same way that supermarkets put limits on the number of items you can buy, so supermarkets should be putting limits on the number of delivery slots you can book.

PopcornZoo · 18/03/2020 11:06

It's really hard to make it fair. If they restrict the number of items you can order and the frequency of deliveries larger families/extended family who live together will suffer.

QueSera · 18/03/2020 11:14

Not RTFT but in answer to the OP - same here, no slots whatsoever!

Marieo · 18/03/2020 12:17

Well the family opposite who have 2 huge cars, don't appear to be self isolating as they have been on the school run have had a Morrisons delivery and a Sainsbury's one. I don't think the people who actually need the slots are causing issues, it's those who could drive but don't want to and who are booking with multiple places that's the issue. Some people are just selfish I guess!

Libertylee · 18/03/2020 12:29

No slots here with Sainsbury’s until after April 8th

Rhapsodyinpurple · 18/03/2020 12:39

I e looked at Morrisons. I have one slot, booked just over a week ago for Saturday and then nothing until two random slots on the 08 April.

Crunchymum · 18/03/2020 14:25

I went with Morrison's in the end - nothing until 28th though!

And even currently there is nothing I will need by then in stock?

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 15:51

Sainsburys are saying that as of Monday they will give priority delivery to disabled and elderly customers. I have asked them on numerous sources how exactly they know who these customers are and have not been able to get a straight answer, so can only assume that they are just paying lip service to the notion of committing to doing something.

AlunWynsKnee · 18/03/2020 16:06

Interesting Alternative. I'm wondering how they'll know to contact disabled, delivery pass, isolating me.

sleepingpup · 18/03/2020 17:01

Maybe @AlternativePerspective they're just really really busy working it ou!Hmm

sleepingpup · 18/03/2020 17:04

Can not get over the "well they haven't replied to me- SO can't be happening...."

Right now they have better things to be doing. it's an unprecedented bloody pandemic for everyone.
Not just you Alernative!

AlternativePerspective · 18/03/2020 17:21

I’m not the only one. There have been multiple posts on social media asking how these groups are identified.

Sainsburys have stated that they’ll be writing to those customers individually, and yet they have absolutely no way of knowing who they are. There is no box to identify yourself as such when creating an account.

Added to which, they’ve just said on the news that the shops have well-rehearsed contingency plans for this. Really? At the moment the shelves are being stripped hour by hour and their supply is most definitely not keeping up with demand.

There were apparently fights and abuse outside of Iceland this morning when older customers were pre-emptively being allowed in and younger ones turned up and hurled abuse at both older customers and staff.

Ocado have now shut down their website and their app,
