Is anyone else experiencing this? Not a single slot as far as the calendar goes (3rd April)

I have just for an experiment, checked for slots at the places we go on holiday (we return frequently to the same places) and it is the same, Devon, Northumbria and East Yorkshire - no slots available for the next three weeks.

Redyoyo · 15/03/2020 21:12

I went on to tesco on Wednesday and booked my slots for the next 3 weeks the same slot i have used pretty much every week for the past 11 years, i don't see how this is selfish. The priority easter slots go live at midnight tonight so are you selfish if you use that?
I think its just being organised and using a service thats available for everyone.
I must admit tesco did well today only 3 things they didn't delivered, macaroni, noodles and fresh green beans.

DryHeave · 16/03/2020 00:16

No slots available as I came to check at midnight when the new day was added. Something’s up (and I don’t think it’s thousands of people setting their alarm for midnight like me).

AlunWynsKnee · 16/03/2020 12:31

I checked at 12.04 dry as I was awake and there was nothing available then in our area.

IndecentFeminist · 16/03/2020 13:13

I appreciate the argument for saying that those who are not isolating should go to the shops. But everything I have read seems to indicate that the best way to flatten the curve is for as many of us as possible to avoid being out and about in contact with others. So it is inherently sensible to get a delivery if you can.

I have a delivery booked today and end of the week, and pre-booked one for next week... done 10 days or so ago before the SHTF. I also shop for my parents and my elderly neighbours so needed to be certain. 🤷

This us true if you're actually self isolating or at least trying to avoid too much contact. Not so true if you're still going about your normal life. Which many people I know are and still using delivery slots because it suits them not to got to the supermarket.

Greenandpleasanter · 16/03/2020 13:22

*go not got

Fishcakey · 16/03/2020 13:23

I've always booked for three weeks ahead wjth Sainsbury's. It's not my fault I'm organised!!

Isthistrueor · 16/03/2020 13:41

I’m in a small town and it’s the same here. None for Sainsbury’s at all, other supermarkets have a 2-3 week wait. Fucking ridiculous.

Isthistrueor · 16/03/2020 13:42

This isn’t government advice though is it? They’re following the ‘herd immunity’ belief and I back them with that.

Deelish75 · 16/03/2020 13:53

I think it's something that Sainsbury's are doing. I always book a few weeks ahead with my delivery. Just before I went to bed on Sat evening (about 1am) I checked Sainsbury's website, I saw that the calendar had moved on to Sat 4April, but it wouldn't let me book. I've checked a few times but nothing has come up so we'll have to wait and see.

Luckily I'm in a position to go to the supermarket myself but if we find ourselves having to isolate as a whole family I'm not sure what we'll do.

Iwalkinmyclothing · 16/03/2020 15:23

My mum and dad have never done their supermarket shop online until now, but being in their 60s with asthma and COPD respectively, they have just started to do so. You seem determined to believe it's all selfish, bad people unnecessarily snapping up slots, but in all honesty, it's probably people like my parents.

DisasterousManagementPlan · 16/03/2020 16:07

It's definitely something Sainsbury's are doing. I usually use Sainsbury's, but they have nothing available at all (also to 4 April). I got one for next week from Tesco instead.

It's all very annoying. And it's not people self isolating any more than the weirdness I witnessed in Tesco at the weekend is people who need piles of pasta and tinned goods.

willowpatterns · 16/03/2020 16:14

Could it be, perhaps, that the supermarkets are struggling to keep up with demand? Hmm

They may have taken the decision to concentrate on putting things on shelves in the shops.

Trooper59 · 16/03/2020 16:28

I was unable to sign up with Ocado or Sainsbury's. I've booked a slot with Tesco for 2 weeks time and ordered what I need. Although I've never used online shopping before I've done it because there is the possibility that DH and I will be stuck at home by then.

I think it's justified and at the moment those who could go to the supermarket should do so.

gingercat02 · 16/03/2020 16:32

Ours is the same. No delivery or click and collect. I have one booked for Friday which I will fill for us and my Mum but goodness knows if we wil get anything actually delivered

jeanie1946 · 16/03/2020 17:36

Yes, same for me. I will be one of the over-70s, but it's the same for us all.

BretonKitten · 16/03/2020 17:38

Last week I read somewhere that only 7% of groceries in the UK were sold via online delivery. It surprised me it was that low tbh. So demand has probably at least doubled if not tripled or quadrupled overnight. No wonder they can’t cope.

Beckynoodles · 16/03/2020 23:11

Desperately trying to book a delivery slot for my parents who have to stay inside but no luck with any supermarket in Cardiff area. My wonderful mummy sadly is disabled by strokes and as primary carer my Father shouldn’t now be going out to try to find food. Am worried that I will have to drive from London & back just to deliver them supplies whilst people who don’t have to self-isolate have booked all the slots. There must be a fair way to ensure those that need the most can access these now precious slots

FredaFrogspawn · 17/03/2020 06:37

Is there a Facebook or Nextdoor group who may be able to help in Cardiff?

sleepingpup · 17/03/2020 07:46

@Beckynoodles I think I can help you. Can you help PM me?

BalthazarImpresario · 17/03/2020 07:56

@redyoyo I've done the same. I've been a tesco delivery pass customer since it was introduced, shipping always delivered on the same day etc, I don't drive and work long ridiculous hours so I've booked 3 deliveries for the coming weeks. Not selfish, not stockpiling just carrying on as normal like everyone is bleating on that we do.

@Beckynoodles see the group posted above, but I'm in Cardiff and have a car so could help. Drop me a private message.

Alternatively, my local asda have both home delivery and click and collect orders available from Sunday onwards
