What food do you really want to like but just don’t?

Friend bought me some vegan mince pies (I have a dairy/egg allergy) because I was moaning about the lack of Xmas sweets available for vegans or people with allergies. Very sweet of her to think of me, except I just can’t stand the taste of them. Every year I see them, think they look so good and try one and every year they are just as rank as the last Xmas Sad
Another example for me is grapefruit, my DH makes this citrus fruit salad with oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes he has it with Greek yogurt and honey, he even adapts it to the seasons and adds toasted nuts and cinnamon in winter. Ohhh god it looks unbelievable and the grapefuit colour just makes the dish but I actually cannot stand the taste of it...
So what food do you really wish you liked but just don’t??

I love wine but can't stand food cooked in wine.
I cannot stomach bananas - the smell or texture but know they are pretty good for you.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 05/12/2019 12:26

Prawns. Everyone seems to love them but I gag if I put one near my mouth.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 05/12/2019 12:29

Red wine. I want to be grown up, sophisticated and enjoy but I just can't stand it!

Bloodymary · 05/12/2019 12:31

Porridge......we all know that it is so good for you in the morning; but I just cannot cope with the texture.
Both of my DDs are the same.

thismeansnothing · 05/12/2019 12:32

Bananas

They are the perfect snack. I'm a runner and every race I do I always get handed one of the buggers at the finish line. I dont like them. I've tried and I've tried. But it's just not happening. Claggy textured things. It's deffo a texture thing because I love a banana milkshake or a foam banana 😂

KurriKurri · 05/12/2019 12:33

I had a pumpkin spiced latte in Starbucks the other day - it looked and smelled really nice - tasted like hell had exploded in a cinnamon factory. I had two tries and then abandoned it.
I also dislike caramel flavoured coffees/lattes - although again I think they smell nice, they taste disgusting.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/12/2019 12:34

Pasta. (All kinds from fresh to tinned alphabetti spahgetti!)

It would make my eating life so much easier if i did. But I find the texture horrible. All claggy and 'sticky'.

Difficultcustomer · 05/12/2019 12:35

Eggs - I remember eating them as a child (fried, boiled, omelette). Think I had a bad experience and I can’t cope now. They are so easy for a quick meal. Every so often I try different types boiled/fried/poached and just can’t manage.

YesILikeItToo · 05/12/2019 12:36

It's porridge for me too. I've tried all sorts of ways of doing it, but I just don't like it. DD does like it, so I've tried again recently, but I think Bloodymary is right, it's the texture. I like oats, and I take Bircher Muesli fine, but sadly not porridge.

I've had better luck with bananas - they are an obviously useful food which, by dint of much practice, I can now tolerate. I wouldn't choose one, but if it's the right thing to eat at the time, I'll now eat it.

RaininSummer · 05/12/2019 12:36

Olives - they always seem quite sophisticated but they are evil ovals from hell's bottom.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 05/12/2019 12:38

I can’t eat eggs either. I low carb and wish I could eat them, life would be easier. But they revolt me so much, I can’t even force myself.

Likewise blue cheese. The thought of all those mouldy wee microbes...

HowlsMovingBungalow · 05/12/2019 12:38

Red wine too - just can't get the taste, tried all sorts of grape but nope I can't like it.

HarrietTheFly · 05/12/2019 12:38

I can't stomach eggs either. Or prawns. Or baked beans. They all seem like they'd be really easy meal options but I can't.

MrsAgassi · 05/12/2019 12:39

Olives. I find them revolting but I think people that eat them look elegant and sophisticated!

Baboutheocelot · 05/12/2019 12:39

Pate, I can eat a little bit and have tried to like it but it’s just doesn’t have a nice taste.

Pascha · 05/12/2019 12:40

Chocolate orange fudge cake.

Mainly because my mum made us one yesterday. I loathe orange and chocolate together Xmas Sad.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/12/2019 12:40

Somebody once told me they thought olives tasted like balls of solid cum.

Thank god I already disliked them because that would have put me off for life.

Pascha · 05/12/2019 12:41

It's all squidgy and fudgy and moist. DH is in heaven.

EwwSprouts · 05/12/2019 12:42

Coffee. I don't feel like a grown up.

AgeLikeWine · 05/12/2019 12:45

Oysters.

They are supposed to be a treat, and I do like the fishy briny taste but the texture just makes me retch.

WarmSausageTea · 05/12/2019 12:47

The plum sauce that’s supposed to go with crispy duck. I really want to like it, but it’s the devil’s sperm.

Tofu. I’ll eat it, but really dislike the texture.

CandiceSucksCandy · 05/12/2019 12:48

Avocados, green gag making goo. I don't care how good they are for you.
Cauliflower, it's how I imagine licking a tramps armpit would taste. I'm not about to do a taste comparison but if a gun was held to my head I know which I'd choose.
Bananas, yellow potential goo that tastes of vile medicine I had as a child.
Coffee
Olives, screw your face up bad.

Subzerohero · 05/12/2019 12:50

Any seafood :-( am obliged to eat the obligatory prawn cocktail starter each Xmas but otherwise avoid like the plague

Unicornhamster · 05/12/2019 12:52

Oooooh lots of banana haters here @thismeansnothing what’s this foam banana you speak of??
I also really dislike red wine, sadly all of my friends drink it and I feel like a child ordering a rose Xmas Grin

@BuzzShitbagBobbly my DH is Greek so we eat a lot of olives... I am not sure I will see them the same after that summary. They are unbelievably salty to be fair.
