What food do you really want to like but just don’t?

Friend bought me some vegan mince pies (I have a dairy/egg allergy) because I was moaning about the lack of Xmas sweets available for vegans or people with allergies. Very sweet of her to think of me, except I just can’t stand the taste of them. Every year I see them, think they look so good and try one and every year they are just as rank as the last Xmas Sad
Another example for me is grapefruit, my DH makes this citrus fruit salad with oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes he has it with Greek yogurt and honey, he even adapts it to the seasons and adds toasted nuts and cinnamon in winter. Ohhh god it looks unbelievable and the grapefuit colour just makes the dish but I actually cannot stand the taste of it...
So what food do you really wish you liked but just don’t??

Quiche - it always smells so delicious but it's just too eggy.

Pasta - because it's everywhere and everyone constantly thinks I'm totally weird for not liking it. Its so slimy, i can't stand it.

@unicornbanana foam bananas. The sweets. You always get them with the little pink foam shrimps. We'll that's what we call them anyway.

Oh and add banana loaf. Love that. But anything with a bucket of butter and sugar will taste nice

Arthritica · 05/12/2019 12:56

Beetroot.

They put it in so many vegetarian dishes but I just hate it.

Winkywoop · 05/12/2019 12:56

Another vote for eggs.

They are such a good source of protein and an easy meal to cook but they just make me heave Sad

I can eat a very very cheesy very very peppery and well cooked (overcooked) omelette though.

Any form of poached/boiled/fried is a no.

Cocolapew · 05/12/2019 12:57

Porridge, custard, coffee, wine.
I'll say prawns as well though I've never actually eaten one. I can't get past the fact they look like tiny foetuses.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/12/2019 12:57

my DH is Greek so we eat a lot of olives... I am not sure I will see them the same after that summary.

Sorry Unicorn!

Cocolapew · 05/12/2019 13:02

Oh and peppers, many a salad or pizza is ruined by bloody peppers

dancinginthekitchen · 05/12/2019 13:05

Gnocchi - never liked them but thought I would try them again when we were in Florence - still hated them. Decided there was no hope if I still didn’t like them when they were made and served by Italians

Frazzlerock · 05/12/2019 13:05

Avocados

You cannot move for avocados these days. Pret is the worst culprit, almost every sarnie has fucking avo in it. If I eat out at a restaurant I end up saying 'without the avo please' more and more often.
If I liked it, then eating out would be easier.

unicornsandmermaids · 05/12/2019 13:09

Eggs

Love the smell of them when my husband cooks them love the look of them but can't eat them unless there baked in something .
The taste makes me gag but I want to love them

Cordial11 · 05/12/2019 13:09

Salmon, it looks tasty but I hate it Sad

0blio · 05/12/2019 13:12

I am honestly the least fussy eater but herbal teas. They all smell so nice but if I try to drink them (especially ginger which I usually love the taste of) I retch.

Porridge, although I can eat a little of the golden syrup flavoured one.

Pancakeflipper · 05/12/2019 13:15

Bananas
Olives (yeah I know 1st world problem)

maidenover · 05/12/2019 13:15

Baked beans, it would be so handy to be able to eat baked beans on toast for lunch occasionally but I can’t get past the smell.

Chickydoo · 05/12/2019 13:17

Milk, milkshakes, tea & coffee with milk, milk puddings, hot chocolate made with milk, custard....anything made with milk in any form, or cream..hideous, makes me heave.
Not for me a cappuccino or cream cake. I feel I'm missing out a bit, but the gag reflex is too strong.

Ladybird37 · 05/12/2019 13:18

Fish, they look all weird and prehistoric. Would live to enjoy fish but I find the thought of it really horrible

SheisMammyof2 · 05/12/2019 13:18

Red wine and fruit teas. Bleurgh.

Lima45 · 05/12/2019 13:21

I'm.another one for eggs, bananas and avocados.
Can't stand any if them. And I'm diabetic, almost every "good" recipe for diabetes contains one of the three!

turkeyontheplate · 05/12/2019 13:23

Shellfish

I love the idea of fresh shellfish eaten close to where it was caught, simply cooked and so full of goodness...I used to play in a folk band and when we did gigs in Brittany the fishermen used to give us sacks of scallops, oysters and mussels straight off the boat, my dad and his friend would cook them up on the quay wall with a bit of garlic and butter.....I couldn't fucking eat it. The taste is appalling and the texture worse. Tried a raw oyster once. Like swallowing a giant, stone cold bogey. Sad

countdowntochristmas · 05/12/2019 13:26

Cranberry sauce , those lovely Christmas sandwiches that are out at the minute but always got cranberry sauce on .

RightOnTheEdge · 05/12/2019 13:26

Salmon it always looks so healthy and nice but I don't like it. Same for bananas, I don't hate them I suppose but I don't enjoy them either.

Wine I wish I could enjoy a glass of wine or share a bottle with a meal but I hate it.
Dry, sweet, sparkling, red or white it all tastes exactly the same to me. Horrid.

GameSetMatch · 05/12/2019 13:31

Salmon, I would love to like it, it always looks lovely in the supermarket with interesting dressings and marinades hut I can’t stand it.

Metaplasia · 05/12/2019 13:32

Mushrooms! They smell amazing but the texture is like trying to eat a slug. I can tolerate crispy ones on a pizza but that's it.

Another vote for prawns. Hideous rubbery fleshy things.

Also not a fan of Bananas unless they're still green, can't stand smushy or slightly brown ones.

Avocado and olives too. Vile.

Nuts/seeds. Gritty weird texture and get stuck in my teeth.

Didnt think I was fussy until I wrote this all down Hmm

Metaplasia · 05/12/2019 13:34

Oh yeah shellfish, definitely. Makes me heave just thinking about it.

Lsquiggles · 05/12/2019 13:35

Mushrooms! They're in everything but just the thought of eating them (I think it's the texture) makes me feel sick Confused
