What food do you really want to like but just don’t?

Friend bought me some vegan mince pies (I have a dairy/egg allergy) because I was moaning about the lack of Xmas sweets available for vegans or people with allergies. Very sweet of her to think of me, except I just can’t stand the taste of them. Every year I see them, think they look so good and try one and every year they are just as rank as the last Xmas Sad
Another example for me is grapefruit, my DH makes this citrus fruit salad with oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes he has it with Greek yogurt and honey, he even adapts it to the seasons and adds toasted nuts and cinnamon in winter. Ohhh god it looks unbelievable and the grapefuit colour just makes the dish but I actually cannot stand the taste of it...
So what food do you really wish you liked but just don’t??

Coffee and I'm not talking Nescafé because I like normal coffee, I'm talking about lattes, cappuccinos and whatever else Costa sell. I could see myself sitting in coffee shops all day with a book and going through a Starbucks drive through with one of those plastic cups with a hole in the top but I just can't do it to myself. The smell of a Costa makes me want to heave my guts up Confused gutted.

Agree with pp:

Bananas
Coffee- it gives me a headache and I won't go near coffee shops because of the smell
Mushrooms - yuk, slimy and too bogey-like
Baby and normal sweet corn
Brocolli- stinks!
Sprouts - devils veg ( it's that time of year)
Mc Donald's- makes me feel ill. They do nice tea though!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/12/2019 18:35

Bananas. They look so handy to have as a portable snack but fuck me the smell and the taste.Urgh!

hsegfiugseskufh · 05/12/2019 19:23

Tomatoes. Theyre in sooooo many things. Will eat them as sauce on a pizza but that's my limit. I have been known to throw away a pizza thats just too tomatoey.

Bluesheep8 · 05/12/2019 19:34

Grumpbum123 · 05/12/2019 19:38

Avocados

Egghead68 · 05/12/2019 19:42

I’m feeling sick reading all the posts about eggs.

Eldee1986 · 05/12/2019 19:42

Baked beans! Think I ate them too often as a child and now I would never chose to eat them... 🤮

cliffdiver · 05/12/2019 19:48

Bananas

lifeisgoodagain · 05/12/2019 19:48

Fresh tomatoes, raw celery, peas ... I like basically everything else except even the smell of mint makes me gag (I have kids toothpaste!)

ChaiNashta · 05/12/2019 19:49

Asparagus

Juanbablo · 05/12/2019 19:50

Avocado and olives.

bebumba · 05/12/2019 19:53

Bananas. I feel that I should like them because of their goodness but I can't stand the smell or the taste.
Like an earlier poster I occasionally try them to see if I can eat them. I take a bite fine, start chewing and they just make me gag.

whitetoblerone · 05/12/2019 20:00

Not a food but I can't stand water. Can't drink it no matter how much I try. 🤮

nagynolonger · 05/12/2019 20:11

Coffee. I can manage a weak instant coffee but don't like fancy stuff or very strong coffee.

Fizzy water. It's fine still why put bubbles in it?

Sweet potatoes. I've tried roasting them and boiling and mashing. Am I doing something wrong?

Quorn mince. Vile stuff gives me horrendous headaches.

Olives. I used to hate them but kept trying and now don't mind the black ones. Green ones? Still not keen.

Weetabix. I fed them to the DC when they were small but I can't eat them.

IFartGlitterAndTinsel · 05/12/2019 20:33

& Prosecco 😬

moanyhole · 05/12/2019 21:33

Cheddar cheese
Baked Beans
Avocado so slimy
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Parsnip
Sweet potatoes
Sea salt, once it's in my mouth I get an overwhelming nausea
Kidney beans
Butter beans
Sardines
Tuna

MAFIL · 05/12/2019 22:51

Another one for coffee.
Real coffee smells fabulous but it tastes grim.
Also, I am a cyclist and coffee and cycling go hand in hand so I am a bit of a pariah on a club ride. My usual gang are used to me now, but I went out with a friend's club a while ago and when we arrived at the cafe stop someone asked me what kind of coffee I wanted. It was like something out of a western....I expected the theme to The Good the Bad and the Ugly to start playing as the room went silent and everyone stared at me as I uttered the terrible words "Err, tea, please...."Blush

Ohyesiam · 05/12/2019 22:53

Oysters

Chancey1982 · 05/12/2019 23:02

Porridge. It's just so bland unless you add loads of sugar which surely ruins the benefits.

Thestrangestthing · 05/12/2019 23:05

So many things. I'm like a child

Wine
Olives
Soft cheese
Yoghurt
Bananas (give me the boak)
Apples (so boring and make me gassy)
Tomatoes
Courgettes
Obergine (possibly spelled that wrong)
Avacado
Pomegranate seed (what's the point)
Flavoured teas (I have really tried)
Quiche
Most birthday cakes, unless homemade
Any meat substitute (again really tried)
Chippies. I can eat one, but I would really rather not. So greasy!

Thestrangestthing · 05/12/2019 23:06

Porridge made with coconut cream, and honey and crushed almonds is amazing!
