Mine are:

Really big: Great Dane, especially Harlequin;

Big: Newfoundland, any shade of brown;

Less big: Labrador Retriever, any colour;

Medium: Border Collie, especially Blue Merle;

Smaller: English Show Cocker Spaniel, roans and colour 'patches';

Smaller still: Pembroke Corgi;

Fun size: smooth Jack Russell terrier.

To look at: Red Setters and Shiba Inus.

For temperament gorgeous golden retrievers (who are also stunning bit they smell so doggy.)

For cuteness: Daschunds.

For sheer handsomeness: Akitas

And I love terriers. I know they can be naughty and yappy but they are so inquisitive and full of life.

Border terrier -here is our 10 week old puppy

Smooth haired Fox Terriers. The most utterly perfect dog shape.

Shiba Inu

Doberman

Manchester Terrier

Corgi

German Spitz

Basenji

Border Collie

All dogs are wonderful, but I like lively medium sized dogs best. Huge lumbering beasts are not for me. We can't have a dog until we retire due to the stupid long hours we both work but when we do it'll be a rescue so we'll take what's available!

I love spaniels and setters, would love a cavalier king Charles but hubby won't let me! I do also love bull mastiffs, corgis, podengos (used to have two) I'm not keen on terrier's, weineraners, I was a vet nurse for ten years and westies were my particular nemesis as they were usually spoilt and badly behaved

Bonkersblond · 26/09/2019 07:44

Clockers41, gorgeous pup, ours is 4 and still gets mistaken for a puppy!

labazsisgoingmad · 26/09/2019 08:29

JRT
staffy
newfoundland

WildRosie · 26/09/2019 08:30

Tibetan Mastiffs are pretty cool as well but, being the size of a lion, not practical for most households.

Yellow Labradors (glances at ancient model across the room), Corgis (My mum had them and bred them) and I'm quite partial to a Daschy.

I am not actually the Queen.

EyebrowOfDoom · 26/09/2019 08:49

English Bull Terrier

Wanted one for 20years, finally got him last November.

He can be a shithead, but he's my shithead Grin

@Leflic Finally - someone else sharing the Patterdale love!

She's an absolute bastard of a dog (I've had terriers before but I was always a big dog breed person at heart), will try to kill anything from mice to the postman, barks at nothing, and prevents me from having any other pets at all (apart from some wary cats who live in the utility room), but I ADORE her. And, oddly enough, she seems to love me...

MaggieMcGill · 26/09/2019 09:25

I can’t believe only 1 person so far has said Italian Greyhounds. How could you not love that wee adorable face! Smile

Hard to pick a couple of breeds, but generally I like dogs whose bodies are in proportion (so no short noses, short legs with long bodies, etc.) I love Huskies and Malamutes but would never own one.

I have an Australian Shepherd myself. He's my third dog, so I guess I have to say them!

I love a Westie, they’re wonderful

Shmithecat2 · 26/09/2019 09:43

I love working Cockers, Irish Wolfhounds and Belgian Shepherds.

Salene · 26/09/2019 09:44

Boxer dog
Staffie
Really big lurchers with hairy beards Smile

LittleLongDog · 26/09/2019 09:44

@wichitalinemanswoman yes! Can’t believe there haven’t been more votes for the lovely little sausage dogs!

milliefiori · 26/09/2019 10:33

@MaggieMcGill - that is an exceptionally cute an dbeautiful face, it's true.

Furries · 26/09/2019 10:42

Leonberger (am biased as I have one!)
Newfoundland
St Bernard
Bernese mountain dog
Pyrenean
Long haired Alsatian

Basically, the bigger and furrier the better!

If I had acres of land and flocks that needed protecting then Sarplaninacs and Caucasian Ovcharkas are stunning, but they should be in an environment were they can do what they’re best at.

vampirethriller · 26/09/2019 11:27

Rottweiler. I wanted one for years, but ended up with a Jack Russell x poodle rescue who is a massive dickhead, though I love her dearly.

Rainyrain · 26/09/2019 11:32

Miniature Dachshund. The best, most loving, full of character dogs on the planet!

Tollergirl · 26/09/2019 11:33

Tollers of course! Otherwise known as Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers. Our two beautiful boys are in doggy heaven but our currently muttly is a quarter toller (we could only afford a quarter this time!). When we had our first, I was walking him in the park and a woman stopped me and asked me what breed he was. When I told her she said "have you just made that up!" - I was most indignant at the time but now think it's quite funny. There aren't many of them around and they are now a bit out of our budget but maybe one day when the DC are off our hands …

Here are my gorgeous boys in their prime

Staffies staffies staffies. Such a misunderstood breed portrayed so wrongly by the media. Wonderful loving dogs. And working cocker spaniels.i also have a soft spot for golden retrievers x

kjhkj · 26/09/2019 11:38

Rough collie. Even when he looks at me like I'm an idiot and carries on doing what he thinks is best...

LadyWindermeresFan · 26/09/2019 13:04

Another vote for the gorgeous Cavalier - the perfect family dog, beautiful, sweet natured, cuddly and surprisingly athletic when given the chance.

@sandyfoot

He regrets opening the door to unscrupulous breeders, but not the dogs in themselves.
