Staffies....I miss ours a lot.
Ridgbacks are beautiful, but I wonder how much hard work they are on the lead.
Traditional Shar pei's - not the wrinkly jobs so much which tend to be a genetic mess (in the same way pugs are), but the smooth bodied ones, again, can be hard work but utterly loving and loyal.

Cloudhopping · 25/09/2019 09:17

Welsh springers-just beautiful with amazing temperaments.
Irish setters-stunning to look at

Staffies all the way. Fell in love with the first rescue one we had, now wouldn’t have anything else. They are so empathic and beautiful souls.

Never had one but Irish Wolfhounds are very beautiful and dignified.

Cloudhopping · 25/09/2019 09:37

Conclusive proof that Welsh Springers are the bestGrin

Love my Jack Russell X to bits, but I wouldn't have another one. High exercise requirements and emotionally not particularly stable. I'll probably be in my late 30s when he kicks the bucket, and I'm not sure I could sign up for another 15 years...

Papillon would be my dream breed but knowing me I'll find myself with a three legged one eyed staffy 😂

Black labs
Goldens
Beaucerons
German shepherds

PickleBiscuit · 25/09/2019 09:46

Bullmastiffs - big lumbering idiots of joy!
Gorgeous slobbery big beautiful faces with velvety jowls & the comfiest thing to snuggle up with (I miss mine soooo much)
Big dogs in general - there's something comforting about a big solid pat Smile

caperplips · 25/09/2019 09:53

In real life we have 2 rescue dogs and would only ever go down that route again. I could not imagine buying from a breeder when so many beautiful dogs need homes.

BUT in fantasy land I would love:
Airdale Terrier
Welsh Terrier
Irish Terrier
Whippet
Greyhound
Irish Wolfhound

drinkswineoutofamug · 25/09/2019 09:57

@unicornsandrainbows98 what breed is your dog as he looks suspiciously like my doggy.
My favourite dog is my girl. A Belgian shepherd cross whippet. Anything that glides when they run, dodges mud and hates rain !
Would love a greyhound but partner says no. 1 mad dog is enough

IratusCats · 25/09/2019 09:57

Bernese mountain dog (probably just as well as we have 2)
Newfoundland
English bull terrier
Saint Bernard
Leonberger
Dobermans (dbro has 2, they're so loving but nuts 😂)
Mastiffs (I'd love another soon)

IratusCats · 25/09/2019 09:59

Oh and Belgian malinois

EstherLittle · 25/09/2019 10:17

Border Collie every time although I used to walk two JRT’s when I was a teen and they were fantastic dogs.

Now have a Collie Cross who is a rescue. Gentle and loving dog. I could make a chihuahua out of the hair that she sheds every day but I don’t mind as I love her!

robynadair · 25/09/2019 10:18

Any rough coated terrier - cairn terriers are a great breed that you don't see so many of nowadays. All of our dogs have been cairns or cairn crosses. They're intelligent, but rather independent thinkers (ie tendency to be a little stubborn!)very affectionate, particularly with children, love to play, don't bark much and when they do it's a surprisingly deep bark, don't shed, definitely have a sense of humour. picture removed by MNHQ at OP's request

Nanasueathome · 25/09/2019 10:19

Dalmatian
English setter
Weimaraner

Zaphodsotherhead · 25/09/2019 10:40

Crossbreed/mongrel all the way! But they aren't breeds, they are just 'dogs'.
Currently owned by a Patterdale though. And a more concentrated ball of utter insanity you couldn't wish to meet.

PennyNotSoWise · 25/09/2019 10:42

I think Huskies are the most stunning dogs, but I'd never be able to have one because I wouldn't be able to keep up with it!

My dream dog has always been a Dogue de Bordeaux, but I have a friend who has one and the slobber put me right off Grin

I have 2 Shih Tzus and they're the most loving, sweet natured dogs I've ever had. Really clever and quick learners too.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 25/09/2019 10:42

Irish setters - I've never met one that didn't have a lovely temperament. Show-stoppers like Afghan Hounds, Borzois or Pharoah Hounds. Cheeky-looking ones like little, tubby wire-haired terriers. Or working dogs, sniffer dogs, that sort of thing. DD likes Xolos because of the Liverpool Giant puppets. I think cats make infinitely better pets than dogs though so I'm probably on the wrong thread Grin.

spiderlight · 25/09/2019 10:43

I've longed for a Welsh Springer all my life. Ended up with two springers, a wonderful collie/lurcher mongrel who was the most beautiful dog I've ever seen inside and out, and now a funny little cocker, all through rescue.

Windydaysuponus · 25/09/2019 10:43

For you Penny..

Stationeryqueen · 25/09/2019 10:49

Whippet (Like cuddling a bag of elbows)
Irish Terrier (Ours is class clown)

Wish list:-
Bernese Mountain Dog
Springer Spaniel.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 25/09/2019 10:57

Staffie
Italian Greyhound
Rottie
Whippet

WildRosie · 25/09/2019 11:44

I like more breeds than I put in my list. Last night I decided to compile a shortlist based on size and that's what I came up with.

I also like Welsh Springer Spaniels, most Pointer breeds, mountain dogs like Kuvaszs, Maremmas, Bernese and Pyrenneans.

Recently, I saw what I think was a Corgi/Bull Terrier cross. It looked a little more fearsome than a regular Pembroke and had Brindle markings.

The good thing about Jack Russells, and small terriers generally, is their vermin eradicating expertise. Not ideal if you keep any pet rodents !

@Cloudhopping snap! They are totally bonkers but I love them. Although my cocker was an absolute breeze compared to the Welshie Grin
