Reminded on the YouTube thread about an old TV programme I loved as a kid / preteen James The Cat! Got me all nostalgic thinking of others, does anyone remember these?! My faves:

Sea view - with a young Yvette Feilding about a girl who's mam and dad owned a B&B! I was so jealous of her!!
Johnny Briggs! - very relatable as very Northern!
Grange Hill - obvs!
Chocky - but it did scare the shit out of me!
Run around with Mike Reid!
Why don't you? - So desperate to be on it!
The Flumps - was too old but iirc it was on early afternoon so will have been off school sick!! Particularly loved the girl on skates!
Huxley Pig - again too old but loved the theme tune
Cockle shell bay - too cute!
Penny Crayon
Finger mouse - or was it bobs? - the man scared me slightly - v.v. Hairy!!

What were yours?

Can anyone remember a possibly dubbed drama were a bunch of evacuee children who were going to america get marooned on an island poss because thier ship was bombed. They were refused when they found an old radio to contact an American boy. It was one of those filler programmes in the six week holidays along with old black and white flash gorden or buck rogers from 30s.

We watched Dark Tower in primary school, which was fine, being educational and made by the BBC, but when that finished they got us watching The Boy from space which terrified the shit out of me. The Thin Man was the stuff of nightmares!

Was Rentaghost 70s?

floffel · 07/09/2019 11:21

@MadameFoner was it storybook international?

Leapyearlover · 07/09/2019 11:28

Another vote for Press Gang with Dexter Fletcher and Julia Sawalha - brilliant!

Thatsnotmyname4291 · 07/09/2019 11:35

@thenewaveragebear1983 it was Dodgem. I couldn’t remember for ages then someone on here gave me the name. It’s still on YouTube
👍👍

Thatsnotmyname4291 · 07/09/2019 11:37

Very late 80s or early 90s I think
Channel 4 or ITV in the summer holidays
About a group of kids on a boat somewhere ‘exotic’ ie not UK. Looking for treasure maybe? I remember seeing them in a wooden boat and then digging something up.

I’ve been wondering for ages and I can’t remember at all.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/09/2019 11:46

Press Gang!

Also "I remember a programme set in a stately home, the girl travelled in time and there was a child with a scarred face? I loved it but can’t think of the name" - I remember that too, but also can't remember what it was called.

Leapyearlover · 07/09/2019 12:04

@YetAnotherSpartacus

Was that Moondial?

WimbledonWindow · 07/09/2019 12:11

Anyone remember Barbapapa or Lizzie Dripping?

PeppermintSoda · 07/09/2019 12:56

Yes I do. Also a programme about a traveller girl called Kizzie

Anasnake · 07/09/2019 13:07

There was a cartoon that was about history, it was french. The credits went through time. It was always on in school holidays. Something like 'once upon a time world'.

Anasnake · 07/09/2019 13:09

Also Worzel Gummidge and Metal Mickey - Saturday tea time c.1981

YetAnotherSpartacus · 07/09/2019 13:17

Leapyear - it must have been. But I remember a mirror and a wardrobe somewhere. It wasn't a favourite though - but hopefully the poster who did originally remember it will read your post.

BoswellsBollocks · 07/09/2019 13:34

Anyone remember Is that a fact?! With the wonderful Dave Benson Phillips.

Weezol · 07/09/2019 14:32

PeppermintSoda Kizzy was based on the book 'The Diddakoi' by Rumer Godden. I got it, and 'A Break In The Sun' out of the library quite a few times.

Another one based on a book I read as a kid after seeing it on telly was about a girl in Dickensian type London - she and her mum lived by the sea, dad was a sailor but he didn't come back from a voyage so they had to move into the slums. Bread and real butter was a massive treat. Would love to find that again!

MyMessyHouse · 07/09/2019 14:36

Does anyone remember Picture Box?

I remember watching at maybe late 1970s.
There was a weird jewelry box thing spinning around at the start, with very odd music.
Was one of those programs you used to watch at school.

PeppermintSoda · 07/09/2019 14:44

Weezol I remember us getting the Diddakoi book out of the library. I think I read the book Break in the Sun. I remember the step dad hitting her in it and it being horrible.
I don't remember the other programme you mention.

MadameFoner · 07/09/2019 16:21

@floffel yes! Thankyou!

Does anyone else remember Captain Zep Space Detective?

NationMcKinley · 07/09/2019 16:44

Kizzy and the book The Diddakoi used to make me cry. The part where she had to watch her dead grandmother’s vardo be burned was horrific. Her aunt was awful too. Poor Kizzy Sad

MillicentMargaretAmanda · 08/09/2019 07:04

Does anyone remember The Gemini Factor? About boy/girl twins split up at birth? It was quite suspenseful but very good.

cliffdiver · 08/09/2019 07:19

Playdays.

You knew it was going to be a good day when it was The Whybird Stop.

FatTwat69 · 08/09/2019 16:02

I loved ‘Is that a fact?’
Still remember the line ‘King Canute sat on the beach and told the ?waves? Get out of reach’
Happy days they were
