Winding down for bed and saw that the Inspector Lynley Mysteries is being repeated on Sky. My god it’s crap. I don’t recall it being this cliched and badly acted when it was on originally.

I used to quite like this. Maybe I was just easily pleased in those days.

Going by this thread, Anna Friel is the winner.

Greenglassteacup · 20/08/2019 22:15

Not British tv but Megan in Mad Men. Awful

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/08/2019 22:16

So true @60minutemakeunder about Vera. She's completely abandoned any attempt at a Northumberland accent. It's a lovely accent too.

Imagine pulling yourself into work every day and doing your best job and then having people slate you for it online

Happens to teacher on here on a daily basis.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 20/08/2019 22:21

Likewise, Spencer / Alex Hastings evil twin on PLL for the hideous hideous English accent

Everyone in PLL. However, it's totally addictive - wading through season four now........

Bookworm4 · 20/08/2019 22:24

Surnanne Jones especially awful in Gentleman Jack

Weezol · 20/08/2019 22:25

Winewolf I saw Graham Cole in this play, he was excellent and also looked a lot younger than he did in The Bill.

Brideshead Revisted ... wot a load of rubbish that was! Sebastion was ... crap!

Linseedlill · 20/08/2019 22:28

Flapjackfairy. I so agree about Alison Steadman in Pride & Prejudice! Her performance was so over the top it rather ruined the series for me.

I agree about David Jason too!

The poor woman who plays Barnaby (the 1st) wife is indeed appalling Grin and deeply irritating but she is hardly written as a very rounded character to be fair.

Oh and the bloke who plays Father Brown. He keeps delivering his lines in a wooden way, staring off in to the distance, then rushing off over and over again. Abrupt and peculiar.

[Can you tell I am watching quite a lot of telly with elderly relatives atm?]

I like the Vera actress and Olivia Colman though.

Mileysmiley · 20/08/2019 22:32

This is the best scene from "Vera" imho

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 20/08/2019 22:33

But if they only get £50 a day, how come minimum wage doesnt apply*

Because the industry exploits people. Have a look on one of the casting websites - many jobs are unpaid, others don't even pay "equity minimum" which is a couple hundred quid - not per week, unless you are very lucky and get more than one day's work. Many jobs aren't even equity minimum so yes, they can pay £50 a day. Fuck knows how they do get away with it. It is like the union for actors don't actually have any respect for its members, but then I'm bitter because I'm the partner of an actor who is mostly skint and out of work despite being more talented than the likes of Derek Thompson.

Morgan12 · 20/08/2019 22:34

Kiera knightly is awful. She acts with her teeth.

Emma Watson acts with her eyebrows.

Both horrendous.

Blake Lively is also shit in everything I've ever seen her in.

SpanishTiles · 20/08/2019 22:51

@Greenglassteacup

Not British tv but Megan in Mad Men. Awful

Which is doubly funny because she played a shit actress who couldn't get any work! Grin

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 20/08/2019 23:00

Don't think all actors on Hollyoaks are bad but they have and have had some pretty bad ones.
Freddie was awful but they really loved him and on was on screen so much!
The person who played Gabby years ago who did the dramatic clip clop walk out.
Breda at the moment. Doesn't help the stupid storyline

isabellerossignol · 20/08/2019 23:06

Leighhalfpennysthigh

I didn't know that. I knew that acting is only a highly paid job if you're a big star but I didn't know that there was so much working for free etc.

Reminds me of those unpaid internships with big businesses etc. On the face of it I think 'why can everyone not just stand together and refuse to work for free' but in reality you know that someone else would come along who is financially independent already (or financed with family money) and can't see what a big deal it is for everyone else so they'd just get it instead.

Leighhalfpennysthigh · 20/08/2019 23:55

@isabellerossignol I had no idea either until I started dating an actor. It really is dreadful the way they are treated. He trained for three years at RADA. Has a back catalogue of hundreds of plays, films, TV shows and now, at the age of 56 is stuck competing with people who did a bit of am dram and fancied themselves as a professional actor.
I'm a physio and I specialise in sports physio. I cannot imagine someone with no qualifications, training or experience being able to walk into a changing room and do my job.

I'm not naming names but any actor who can't master the accent they're supposed to be portraying. It really bugs me, surely it's part of the job to master that skill. I especially hate hearing an actor's natural accent creeping through. Northerners playing Southerners and vice versa.

For chronic accent abuse I give you the entire cast of The Archers.

Mileysmiley · 21/08/2019 04:59

Nicholas Cage ruined Captain Corelli's Mandolin with his appauling Italian accent. (I know he is an american actor btw)

Mileysmiley · 21/08/2019 05:00

Mileysmiley · 21/08/2019 05:03

Innocentinfamy · 21/08/2019 06:47

Keanu in EE, excruciatingly bad! Definitely not hired for his astonishing acting skills
The current Ben Mitchell & yes to Seb from Corrie, always so bloody moany!

Agree with pp though, not enough rehearsal time & some most of the writing is so two dimensional that even the best actors in the world couldn't save it...

PrivateIsles · 21/08/2019 07:47

I won't hear a word said against Jane Wymark (Joyce Barnaby) - I love her!! Half the murders in Midsomer wouldn't have been solved without her!

Wasn't she in the 70s Poldark series as well - I think she played Morwenna.

NoSauce · 21/08/2019 07:50

Dev is so bad he’s good. Maria is actually dreadful. Sharon of Eastenders. In fact all of the cast on Eastenders.
