Winding down for bed and saw that the Inspector Lynley Mysteries is being repeated on Sky. My god it’s crap. I don’t recall it being this cliched and badly acted when it was on originally.

I used to quite like this. Maybe I was just easily pleased in those days.

Just look at Emma Watson aged 11: “you’re going to take someone’s eye out! It’s LEVIOSAAAARRRR”

Oh, come on. I’m no fan of Emma Watson, but that was the line; she was just saying it the way it was meant to be done

Amortentia · 20/08/2019 15:56

*Anything with children in.

I have never watched a British child who could act properly. They all sound horrifically wooden and have awful posh accents*

Plus they come across as precocious brats. The only exception was Martín Compston in Sweet Sixteen, when he was just 16 and was excellent in it.

Anything with children in

I've never seen Asa Butterfield do a bad job. I think he's pretty amazing, right back from when he did Hugo.

Sonia in Eastenders

Probably not a popular view but I have always found David Jason unconvincing in any part he has played

hoarderadvice · 20/08/2019 16:55

Probably not a popular opinion but I can't stand Brenda Blethyn in anything. She's so hammy and always plays the same character as far as I've seen.

Luxesoap · 20/08/2019 17:00

Jodie Whittaker, Mandeep Gill and Tosin Cole are all diabolical in Dr Who. Along with the poor writing my once favourite show is unwatchable. They’re all like wooden planks.

Pinkarsedfly · 20/08/2019 17:03

Oh Christ. Catherine Tate in Dr. Who was excruciating. Whoever had that idea should be sacked.

PasDeGeeGees · 20/08/2019 17:04

Artus I agree - you don't lose yourself in the drama do you, he's always David Jason playing the part.

Bluffinwithmymuffin · 20/08/2019 17:05

Artus

Only Fools was usually brilliant but I think David Jason always completely overplayed Del’s ‘sensitive side ‘ - very luvvy and massively cringy

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/08/2019 17:07

She (and Bernard Cribbens) are why I stopped watching Dr Who despite the wonderful David Tennant @Pinkarsedfly.

Notwiththeseknees · 20/08/2019 17:24

@WoollyMummoth OMG Can't agree with you more - incredibly wooden Stephen Tompkinson attempting mean & moody. Just bloody dreadful.
Eve Myles is the absolute opposite - her face overacting like a rubber glove caught in the door of a washing machine.....

Drogosnextwife · 20/08/2019 17:36

Everyone in Hollyoaks, I don't even watch soaps it's just on sometimes. Also, I don't think it's played in England, Ireland or Wales, but most of the actors in River City. Sometimes I watch it just to have a good laugh at the terrible acting.

flapjackfairy · 20/08/2019 17:51

I've never seen suits but I did see MM in Without a trace and I thought she was good in that.

flapjackfairy · 20/08/2019 17:53

And I love Alison Steadman but her overacting was atrocious in Pride and Prejudice ! She overacted to the point of embarrassment!

But I love her as Pamela in Gavin And Stacey .

Grammy78 · 20/08/2019 17:57

MitziK, any clues to the EE actor please?

As a lot of other people have already said, Charlie and Duffy from Casualty.

Also, Antony Cotton from Corrie.

Dieu · 20/08/2019 18:00

I remember there being a thread about arsehole celebrities. Anthony Cotton was mentioned a fair few times!

iklboo · 20/08/2019 18:01

@Dieu - DH can verify that.

AmyFl · 20/08/2019 18:02

The actress in Vera.

MitziK · 20/08/2019 18:14

Ex Crappyoaks actors seem to know the best suppliers of 'hayfever' powder. Must have met them at School as a kid.

JaneJeffer · 20/08/2019 18:26

Anybody and everybody that has ever played Ben Mitchell in Eastenders
I liked Harry Reid.

60minutemakeunder · 20/08/2019 18:32

The actress who plays Vera. Dreadful. Why cast an actor for a role where the fact she is from the north east is a central feature, of the actor can’t do the accent. Surely there was someone from that region they could have picked.

Anna Friel, very annoying, one dimensional, funny walk and lots of lip biting

Olivia Colman, again with the lip biting, this time with added mumbling and talking quickly out of the side of her mouth.

supersop60 · 20/08/2019 18:41

I feel a bit sorry for soap actors. As a PP said - there is too little rehearsal time for them to be completely convincing and believe in what they're saying. And some excellent stage actors can't make the transition to the small screen - OTT and declamatory. And vice versa of course - some tv actors are shocking in live theatre.
What bothers me is that there are thousands of actors desperate to get these jobs - are the ones we see truly the best?

Violetparis · 20/08/2019 20:19

I find Patricia Hodge in Miranda terrible, she's trying too hard to be funny and it makes me cringe. Also the leading actress in Riveria which was shown on a Sky Channel, I was genuinely shocked at how bad she was.

Needsomezzzz · 20/08/2019 20:31

Vera! Awful
Anna Friel, terrible
