Winding down for bed and saw that the Inspector Lynley Mysteries is being repeated on Sky. My god it’s crap. I don’t recall it being this cliched and badly acted when it was on originally.

I used to quite like this. Maybe I was just easily pleased in those days.

I love Inspector Lynley.

dustarr73 · 20/08/2019 08:09

Steve in Corrie, hes just awful.I dont know why they keep him on.

MrsMozartMkII · 20/08/2019 08:10

"And that soggy noodle of a woman who..." that description made me laugh more than it probably should've Grin

Definitely Charlie!

And whats-her-name who's in the last three-ish episodes of Lewis. Always the same no matter what the role.

I like the Midsomer chap Smile

@isabellerossignol

Imagine pulling yourself into work every day and doing your best job and then having people slate you for it online

They have specifically chosen a job where they want people to look at them.......

Exactly!

LollyBmummy3 · 20/08/2019 08:18

I love Steve in Corrie. He’s meant to be comical. Without him the show wouldn’t be worth watching. I agree about Michelle/seb and I’m not keen on Maria/Gary/Izzy either and some of the kids. But their rubbish performances don’t stop me watching!

ShatnersWig · 20/08/2019 08:24

Keith Barron (old time actor) was dreadful as was Donald Sinden

You mean Sir Donald Sinden, knighted for services to drama in 1997, following a CBE in 1979, who performed extensively with the Royal Shakespeare Company, nominated for an Olivier award four times, nominated for a Tony award on Broadway once, nominated for a BAFTA, nominated for a Drama Desk award on Broadway (receiving a special Drama Desk award on Broadway in 1975)? Yeah, he was clearly dreadful.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/08/2019 08:24

Meghan Markle in Suits. It's very far fetched and non of the actors are going to be nominated for Oscars anytime soon, but she was bloody awful.

I thought she was pretty good. Certainly better than all the “GODDAMNIT!!!” being bandied around all the time.

She wouldn’t even have come up on this thread had it not been for the Harry/Meghan dislike.

I used to love Inspector Lynley when it was first on. In fact I like detective shows full stop. I don’t know whether quality has improved recently (Line of Duty for example) or whether I just didn’t notice the wooden acting of Nathaniel whatshisname. Either way it just looks dated and badly acted now.

Wow I’ve got to disagree about Charlie from Casuality! I’ve always found him to come across as genuinely believable like he’s just playing himself. I was a nurse for 26 years and though casualty as a program is a load of utter nonsense (as is Holby), I could actually imagine working with Charlie.

As for Anna Friel though - totally one dimensional! She can literally only play one character.

Ardal O’Hanlon in Death in Paradise. Totally spoiled it. Kris Marshall was excellent. He isn’t.

Gilead · 20/08/2019 08:40

I’m going to get into trouble for this but Matt Smith in Dr. Who was more wooden than the New Forest.

iklboo · 20/08/2019 08:45

Imagine pulling yourself into work every day and doing your best job and then having people slate you for it online**

Getting paid extremely well for being bad at your job? I'll have some of that.

Charley50 · 20/08/2019 08:45

Vicky McClure was brilliant in This is England and other things, but I hate her acting style in Line of Duty. (Or maybe it's just the character - shit lines)

Agree about Eve Myles (?) in Keeping Faith. I do wonder if she was directed to gurn, roll her eyes and take off her stilettos at every opportunity though.

Ross Kemp! Much better as a TV presenter. Steve McFadden is a bit shit; he really lucked out with Eastenders. (Find EE unwatchable thank god, due to all the drama, hysteria, and aggressive shouting).

In general I really notice when an actor is speaking their lines without understanding them, and putting inflections in the wrong place.

If I were crap in my job, I'd fully expect to be fired. Why should it be different for actors, who are paid a shitload more than most of us?!

Oh God yeah, Breda in Hollyoaks is mega annoying. Mercedes is awful and a slattern to boot!

Also, she's a really good actress, but Stacey in Eastenders is a right torn-faced cow!

Sweetheart1313 · 20/08/2019 08:48

Another vote for Charlie from Casualty 🙋🏻‍♀️ worst acting I've ever seen.

For some reason he's the BBC's highest paid actor Confused

Dieu · 20/08/2019 08:50

Through sheer longevity, if nothing else. I remember seeing him in Casualty YEARS ago. Has the man no ambition?! He's got a cushy number and he's sticking to it.

Myusernameisunique · 20/08/2019 08:51

Literally the whole cast of Hollyoakes. I never actually watch it but unfortunately have seen advertisement clips on social media and I actually cannot believe the cast are paid to do what they do or that people watch it!

NameChangeNugget · 20/08/2019 08:52

Dev in Coronation Street
Suranne Jones in absolutely anything

Ringsender2 · 20/08/2019 08:55

Some of the early series of Morse have very bad support actors. Season 5 (i think) of Endeavour was excruciating.

As well as poor acting, I think a lot of it is rubbish scripting - a crap script makes it impossible for an actor to sound convincing. Different Directors get differing value from their cast too.

BearSoFair · 20/08/2019 08:56

Billie Piper when she returned as Rose in Doctor Who. No problem with her in the first 2 series, but when she came back for a later David Tennant episode she was awful!

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2019 09:00

Anna friel in anything that Marcella was terrible .

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2019 09:04

Martin Freeman makes me irrationally ragey he is so irritating .

SummerInTheVillage · 20/08/2019 09:05

I stopped watching soaps a decade ago because of the dreadful standard of acting across the board. Too many episodes and no time for rehearsal, so you can't really blame the actors.

Overacting award goes to Sheriden Smith for me, never seen her in a anything remotely convincing. I couldn't even watch Jonathan Creek when she was in it. I wanted to shout STOP ACTING.

Brenda Blethyn is never caught acting. Totally natural and always convincing.
