Winding down for bed and saw that the Inspector Lynley Mysteries is being repeated on Sky. My god it’s crap. I don’t recall it being this cliched and badly acted when it was on originally.

I used to quite like this. Maybe I was just easily pleased in those days.

Most actors who aren’t celebs are paid very poorly (a guest actor appearing in one episode might get only a few hundred quid for a week’s work)

That's not terrible pay for a week's work, it's what most people get for a week's work.

Although granted getting a few hundred pounds for a week's work in a secure job is very different from being a jobbing actor who only gets a week's work occasionally. But again, that's their choice.

Duffy in Casualty.

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2019 09:12

Ian McKellen is on Corrie??

Duffy is an Oscar winning, Emmy wiinning actress compared to Charlie. Smile

"Imagine pulling yourself into work every day and doing your best job and then having people slate you for it online"

They shouldn't bother to review TV shows or films for us. Every review should just say, "everyone turned up on time and tried their very best". lol

growlingbear · 20/08/2019 09:52

Imagine pulling yourself into work every day and doing your best job and then having people slate you for it online.

Soap actors work incredibly long hours, often six sometimes seven days a week. They have so little time to analyse and learn their scripts and practise a nuanced performance, so it's no wonder they don't always act Hollywood off the screen. But I suspect they don't give a toss what sarky MNetters think, since they earn a fortune and are too busy to be milling about online anyway.

I thought you were going to say Michelle Dockray for her god awful acting in Downton.

The full series is on repeat on on itv3 and I honestly don't remember her being that shit first time round.
In fact, the whole series is a bit shit which upsets me greatly, I bloody loved Downton!

And Angela Griffiths ruined Lewis when they cast her!

eddiemairswife · 20/08/2019 10:04

My first thought when I read the title was Anna Friel. It seems I'm not alone.

pauline987 · 20/08/2019 10:05

Hate to say this, but Jonny Connor in Corrie.

I don't remember him being this bad when he was in The Bill

yellowallpaper · 20/08/2019 10:08

The actress and actor in 'I am nicola'. A lot was unscripted and improvised, and boy did it show. Didn't waste time on the other 'I am' shows.

Keeping faith and Anna friel I agree are annoying.

Love Killing Eve though. You can see every thought going through the characters heads just by minimal facial expressions.

Mrsjayy · 20/08/2019 10:15

I am getting fed up with Stephen Graham in all his grittiness he is the same character in everything

TidyDancer · 20/08/2019 10:25

OMG whoever said Jessie in emmerdale fuck yes. She's bloody dreadful and I can't wait for her to leave. Her sons are good but the actress who plays her is awful.

Meghan Markle wasn't only dreadful in Suits, she had a small part in Without a Trace a few years back and she was terrible in that too. I'm ambivalent about her and Harry so it's not because I hate her anyway.

decisionsindecisions · 20/08/2019 10:32

The actor who played Johnny Connor in Corrie was great in Prime Suspect. However he's not so good in Corrie.

I don't like Dan in Emmerdale either. He is just terrible. I don't know whether this is the character that he portrays or whether his acting is just poor.

Cheeseoncrumpets · 20/08/2019 10:44

Gemma and Chesney in Corrie. Good God they are awful!

Corrie is a strange beast though, it has some fantastic actors Carla, Peter, David, Roy etc and then the likes of Sean, Fizz, Kirk and Dev who are act like they are in a really shit AmDram prodiction.

BelfortGabbz · 20/08/2019 10:49

Jude Law - I'm always very aware he's acting, likewise Srephen Graham.

WoollyMummoth · 20/08/2019 10:53

Stephen Tompkinson as DCI Banks. Truly awful, nothing like the character created by Peter Robinson in his fabulous novels. I couldn’t bear to watch him stomping about and scowling.

winewolfhowls · 20/08/2019 11:11

Totally unrelated but I used to love reg and Tony on the Bill, and I've never seen them in anything else.

Sharon on EE, annoying as feck.

Going to be very unpopular but the guy that plays Luther. I just don't get the hype at all. I'll get me coat.....

Pinkarsedfly · 20/08/2019 11:20

Bloody David Morrissey. He just looks around, booming portentously.

He ruins everything he’s in for me.

Pinkarsedfly · 20/08/2019 11:21

*looms. Although I guess he does look, too.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 20/08/2019 11:32

Anything with children in.

I have never watched a British child who could act properly. They all sound horrifically wooden and have awful posh accents.

SummerInTheVillage · 20/08/2019 11:56

I have never watched a British child who could act properly. They all sound horrifically wooden and have awful posh accents.

And yet they are still 100% better than American children.

Not sure what's wrong with having a posh accent, I have one. Inverted snobbery?

Cheekychops73 · 20/08/2019 12:18

Eddie Redmayne in Birdsong a few years ago. He whispered his way through it and was as wooden as a plank. He ruined it the arse.

LittleAndOften · 20/08/2019 12:24

Emma Watson and Keira Knightly. Both just awful and hammy. Very stage school and never convincing.

I don't get the Keira Knightley hate dislike.
I think she's really well cast and plays her parts superbly well.
