I’ve grown all my pubic hair back and I love it!

Sorry I know this is a weird post, but I’m 31 and have a full bush for the first time since I was 14, and I need to talk about it.
I started shaving pretty much as soon as I had hair, I was sexually active at 14, and despite a lot of professed feminism I had clearly internalised something about a need to remove my public hair. I’ve been bare or maybe the odd strip ever since 14.

A couple of weeks ago I somehow flicked the telly over onto Naked Attraction (what the hell is that show?!) and noticed a whole line up of totally pubicly bald women, and had such a strong reaction. We’re adult women! We’re meant to have hair! What was I doing? So I’ve left it all to grow back and honestly it feels so good. It’s all soft and nice and I feel weirdly sexy, how did I never realise before?

All women should absolutely do what they want with their own bodies and their own hair, I’ve argued long and hard for why I shaved, so please don’t take this as a judgement, but as an adult woman with my natural hair for the first time ever, I’m feeling so liberated and just wanted to share!

My lover prefers it....Hooray! It is arousing because it is abit taboo nowadays!

redspider1 · 15/06/2019 18:11

Bald noo noos became on trend because it wasn't mainstream. Now that it is, it's old hat. Bush will be back! Grin

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 15/06/2019 18:15

I used to shave it all off all the time, then got lazy so didn't for a while. I'm not a fan of a full bush myself, I get sweaty and find it rubs wrong somehow. I've started going for the trimmed look, not a close shave, but nice and tidy. A compromise of sorts

I've also not given consideration to what a man might like whilst styling my pubes since I was about 20. It's more about what's comfortable for me and what I think looks or feels nicest

I keep my fuzz on butjust shave a bit in the summer so it doesn't peep out from under the swimsuit

IABUQueen should we all shave our heads too, for better hygiene? Washing hair is surely just a way of kidding ourselves that we are dealing with oils and sweat, etc.

Are women and men who do not shave unhygienic?

It should be perfectly acceptable for someone to say they feel cleaner without hair without other people extrapolating that to saying people with pubic hair are unhygienic.

NewYoiker · 15/06/2019 19:20

If you shave it off.. how do you not get razor burn?!

Yb23487643 · 15/06/2019 19:27

Pubes spiky & growing bs k is the worst thing, as is the sweat that’s not wicked away by hair when you’re bald. Ugh and the yeast infection or near jock itch. Hair 4 me all the way. I’ve always quickly regrettted waxing or shaving!!

cookiechomper · 15/06/2019 19:27

I shave it all off and again when it starts getting too thick. DH prefers it smooth but he's not really that bothered either way.

Serialweightwatcher · 15/06/2019 19:27

I don't understand why it's a thing to shave nowadays ... I personally think it looks so odd because it's supposed to have hair - okay give it a trim to neaten it up a bit, but that's it.

Yb23487643 · 15/06/2019 19:32

Prefer that men don’t shave, spiky genitals are NOT sexy or appealing in ANY way!! Or the plucked chicken thing 🤢

Shockers · 15/06/2019 19:39

I will trim my bearded thighs, so as not to frighten children in the pool, but my wildflower meadow is my sacred shrine to the 70s Grin.

TheLittleDogLaughed · 15/06/2019 19:47

I don't like the look or feel of a full shave / wax. I've never met a man who liked it either and they found the bald look unsexy in porn too.

I do trim though, that stops me getting too hot or any of the other unhygienic things people have mentioned.

I'm fairly sure that like the craze for other Barbie body effects like fake boobs and hair extensions, it will become very uncool to shave it all off in the next decade or so.

YukoandHiro · 15/06/2019 19:50

Hurrah! I stopped shaving down there except for holiday bikini line about 10 years ago. Don't know why I wasted so long messing around with it. 100 times better to go natural IMO. I do still do legs and underarms, but far less obsessively than I once did.

It grows back all nice and soft doesn't it?

Bunnyfuller · 15/06/2019 19:57

When they do the close ups on naked attraction it’s often a bit pimply/spotty.

Sorry, I may do a tidy up but have always resented porn influences being translated to real life. Bum sex wasn’t as widely spoken about (or asked for) 20 years ago. Whats worrying is the direction popular porn is heading in now. Utterly revolting. It’s treading a dodgy line of relatives/step families. Very age confusing and frankly distasteful.

We didn’t remove hair there until porn made men want it.

Emoconn · 15/06/2019 21:35

It depends on your bush though. Mine goes halfway up my bum crack over a bit if my bum cheeks and a little way down my thighs! Some people just get a regular bikini line bush. Totally depends. I get sweaty and horrible “down there” when I am not waxed or shaven

JemSynergy · 15/06/2019 21:57

Every now and again I will get rid of it all but I hate it when it grows back and it is itchy. The last time I had a smear the nurse said "everything looks normal down there" I asked what she meant and she said "looks like a woman who has had children so all very normal" so now I think having hair might be the best thing. Hmm

Soola · 15/06/2019 22:46

@Bunnyfuller

I’d never seen any kind of porn when I was a teenager and started removing my pubic hair, nor did I have sex until some years later so absolutely did not wish to be hairless down below to please a man or confirm to any look.

When people trot out the porn association it makes me laugh as I remove my hair down below for me and me alone.

TreeSunset · 16/06/2019 00:34

No intention of shaving. If my DH wanted me shaved he wouldn’t be my DH. He isn’t bald so why the fuck should I be??

Legs fine, bikini line have never not ended up with an itchy rash and then feeling like sand paper.

I don’t want DH to shave his chest and be all spikey either

Lotsie · 16/06/2019 01:34

I do wax, but am considering stopping. My mum shaved and I remember as a young teen feeling very self conscious of my hair as her being like that made me think it was a bad thing. I don't want my daughter to feel the same way!

motherheroic · 16/06/2019 01:48

The few times I've botched my trim and had to take it all off I've absolutely hated it. My knickers clung to my fanny because it was 'sticky' and I felt completely exposed.

Everytime I feed my dog raw chicken I always think about how it looks like a shaved vaj.

MrsArnott · 16/06/2019 02:32

Jesus Mumsnet 🤦🏻‍♀️🙄

I’ve grown all my pubic hair back and I love it!
Catsinthecupboard · 16/06/2019 02:37

Be happy with your full bush! It doesn't last forever.

It goes away when you're in menopause. Not bald. But considerably less.

I think that it's terrible that young women are shaving. There's a lot of reasons that we grow hair down there and only one that we take it off. Sex.

Neat and trim is good. Bald is an option that comes with health trouble.

To each her own, but if you're influenced by the porn industry? Think about how nasty they are in reality. NOTHING good comes from that business. The actors aren't "empowered" they are usually drugged.
