REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

You’ve got that ‘halfway through a project’ panic - too far to go back, not enough near it’s finished state to visualise it properly.
It looks great and in my opinion more timeless and original than the current trend for greys.

costacoffeecup · 09/11/2018 08:31

Actually hers is more teal colour but it's not a dark dark blue, just looks it with all the other bits in. I'm sure yours will be the same.

You live in the Uk?

Then the vast majority of the time it will be atmospheric, utterly gorgeous dark blue

Only in very high summer will it feel like you're on an ocean - and it will be welcome Smile

LMW1990 · 09/11/2018 08:32

It's gorgeous and very on trend. But I think it's a style that will stand the test of time. I'd love to have this colour but I would do with with grey rather than white, with copper details and accessories. I'm jealous of all your counter space!!

Littlelambpeep · 09/11/2018 08:34

I think you cannot judge until you have wall art maybe fresh plants a d accessories in. Only then can you judge it.

I really love it. It looks vibrant and clean and funky.

I had the same panic with our dark grey kitchen - it's not finished yet so don't panic too much - ours transformed once the worktop was on and our stuff was on it! There's ways to soften it, but I think it's BEAUTIFUL!

TheDowagerCuntess · 09/11/2018 08:47

The hashtag #darkkitchen on Instagram has lots of beautiful kitchens for inspiration on how to style the finished room

😮 How did I not know about this hashtag? Our dark kitchen is being installed the week after next, once the builders have finished, and this is making me excited all over again.

carpettile · 09/11/2018 09:04

aHa it's great I wanted to have a new blue kitchen but can't justify changing the white one so settled on a dark blue wall. As other people have said when everythig is in place you will love it.

twoundertwo54321 · 09/11/2018 09:07

It looks amazing!!!

cc4490 · 09/11/2018 09:08

Love it!
We've just bought a similar colour but a different style and I'm so looking forward to having it fitted! I think a splash of colour really makes your house stand out.

Badwifey · 09/11/2018 09:09

Wow I love it. Good choice op. Smile

Whatthefoxgoingon · 09/11/2018 09:10

This blue is now very popular in kitchen design right now, so will inevitably date but so what? I like it! And you can change the doors fairly easily in years to come. Kitchens aren’t forever.

IHeartKingThistle · 09/11/2018 09:21

The Amtico herringbone will look amazing with that kitchen - it's the floor I wanted but couldn't stretch to!

Maddy70 · 09/11/2018 09:22

Absolutely gorgeous. Love it. Don't change a thing

Dragon3 · 09/11/2018 09:22

I really like it. To be honest, the dark blue was a bit too dark for my tastes. But I love the change in colour when the light hits the doors. Having variation like that will stop it being too dark or too light. I think it will be lovely when finished.

barleyreed · 09/11/2018 09:27

I love it and wasn't expecting to! Once all finished it is going to be beautiful. I would be panicky too after so much work and money but I think you are probably over-analysing it, it really is fabulous!

Juanbablo · 09/11/2018 09:28

I love it! I think it looks great.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 09/11/2018 09:29

It's absolutely gorgeous OP. I love it.

GinandGingerBeer · 09/11/2018 09:30

@ElBelle you might want to ask MNHQ to delete your last pics as it has your camera roll at the bottom with non kitchen pics on.

Your kitchen is stunning! Love it!

FaceLikeAPairOfTits · 09/11/2018 09:33

It's really lovely, very Stiffkey Blue.

I'm doing a place up at the moment, and it's taking years. I'm realising that whenever a room gets completed I'm at best meh about the results and at worst in a total panic. I think all that time poring over Pinterest and fantasising about the results you're saving up for does bring huge pressures to ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT.

Also trying to second guess what will date just brings additional worry, so try not to do that. Although that's exactly what I'm doing about everything in my almost finished living room... Grin

Sewrainbow · 09/11/2018 10:08

Love it!

agedknees · 09/11/2018 10:16

It’s lovely. When it’s finished you are going to love it.

hettie · 09/11/2018 10:20

It's gorgeous...I wanted that colour but couldn't find it in an affordable range. We have dark grey..... You can soften it with indoor plant pots, coir or wicker baskets, a soft wool rug etc. Anything that's a natural material.... It's going to be fab

coffeeagogo · 09/11/2018 11:59

I love it - it's gorgeous

I had the same when I ordered my red and white kitchen- totally freaked out but was fine one I had out all my stuff in.
