REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

It really is stunning, and am sure you will relax when the floor and tops go in. We’ve just had a kitchen with a wood grain effect put in. I love it, but the builder delighted in telling me how all of them were thinking how strange it was. He ate his words at the end and agreed it was fantastic Grin

Your kitchen is beautiful!!!!

1400spincycle · 09/11/2018 07:44

Definately a stealth boast Grin! Its gorgeous! Im very jealous,

OneStepMoreFun · 09/11/2018 07:47

It's gorgeous. If I see another grey anything in interior design, I'll scream. Grey is such a cliche now and will date. Your kitchen is individual. And that is a lovely blue - it changes colour in different lights, from navy to smoky airforce blue (in the photo).

I love it.
Wonder if dh would consider a new kitchen after only 4years. 🤔 🤣
Ours is white with light grey quartz and oak floor. Our living room has navy sofas which are over 10years old. We might be inadvertent trendsetters...

FourRustedHorses · 09/11/2018 07:49

I have painted my living room the exact shade your kitchen cupboards are. Yes it does look brighter in the sunlight. Mine does! but I've got some vintage oak furniture and flooring down which has softened it up. I've got some dark green velvet furniture coming, navy blue curtains and blush pink pillows and a fair few copper bits and pieces too. Its bold, like yours but once everything is in your kitchen, all the life clutter, your kitchen will look amazing.

CookieDoughKid · 09/11/2018 07:51

Love the colour but imo, it would look better with walls that are not white.

CarolsSecretCookieRecipe · 09/11/2018 07:52

Just popped back to this thread for another look - and to show DH that this is what I'd like should we remodel the kitchen..... Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 09/11/2018 07:54

It's lovely. My DH and I would like to buy a house and do it up adding a big open plan kitchen, diner, social area. Yours looks like the vision I have in my head!

Thiswayorthatway · 09/11/2018 07:55

We have dark grey to your blue in our kitchen. Looks fab, smart and clean. Yours will too when finished.

PiperPublickOccurrences · 09/11/2018 07:56

We've just replaced the kitchen too and we've had major panics over the colour, the layout, the worksurfaces - everything. It's a major decision and one which costs a lot of money! It's not like when you paint a room and dislike it - a new pot of paint is £20.

I love your dark blue kitchen - much more individual than the acres of white, shiny units filling most showrooms.

Lonesurvivor · 09/11/2018 07:57

It's fabulous, looks amazing in both lights. Lucky you!

RagamuffinCat · 09/11/2018 08:00

I think it looks beautiful! The nickel handles will be lovely too.

LadyPenelope68 · 09/11/2018 08:03

I think when you go for something different to your usual, you do panic and think it’s going to look terrible, plus, when not everything is in (flooring/lighting etc) it does look worse.

I went from pale wood and pale tiles to a really dark, high gloss grey with bright red, gloss tiles. I was a jibbering wreck until it was all in and finished as at every stage, I panicked that I’d made the wrong decision.

Don’t worry, it will be fine and it looks GORGEOUS!

KristinaM · 09/11/2018 08:04

It will be really lovely with the oak Amtico flooring and your worktops. Flooring and worktops make a HUGE difference.

It’s just looks really blue now because there’s nothing else in the room. Hold your nerve and stick to your original vision.

Ignore the workmen. We just bought a Victorian flat that had suspended ceilings fitted in the kitchen and bathroom. We ripped then out and restored / replaced the original plasterwork cornice.

Every single tradesman we had in after that sucked their teeth and said

“ Oh dear, look at all the wasted space up there in the ceiling. Why don’t you get a nice parador suspended Ceiling with spotlights? “ .

Every single bloody one. As a PP said, they are not known for their sophistication.

Radyward · 09/11/2018 08:04

I lke it. It is still unfinished tho so with accessories it will be fab.
Its a very up to the minute colour and very now where as grey seens to be fading.
On the first episode of old house new house a george clarke programme A couple did an art deco style in the hall and put a bright mid blue in the kitchen. Have a look for accessories ideas .

AsleepAllDay · 09/11/2018 08:06

I like it! Very different and in a classic style

JustRichmal · 09/11/2018 08:07

I have not read the whole thread, but think it looks really smart. Showed it to DH he liked the spirit level. Thanks for that. It has been an expensive thread. Smile

whitewallflowers · 09/11/2018 08:10

I understand OP, we selected a colour for our kitchen and it looked totally different in the showroom to when it was installed. We even called to check it was the correct one that they had sent.

At the stage you're at now I was really questioning it but once everything was in, worktop, floor, tiles etc it all came together really nicely and looks great.

Also I really like that blue colour. I wanted dark kitchen cabinets but my kitchen is tiny and can be quite dull so we couldn't go for that option unfortunately.

Whipsmart · 09/11/2018 08:10

I love it, it's bold and striking! And it's totally normal to have a bit of a wobble once you've made some irreversible change, buyer's remorse and all that... and as pp have said, it will look different again once it's all done and you've got all your kitchen bits all over the place.

I think it's great to go ageing the norm, so many houses are just beige (literally and figuratively)!

FourRustedHorses · 09/11/2018 08:16

so many houses are just beige (literally and figuratively)!

Like an argos catalogue spread Grin

Peregrina · 09/11/2018 08:16

I love it - I wish I had been bold enough to do that, although I don't think that colour was around when I last refitted my kitchen.

mimiasovitch · 09/11/2018 08:24

It's lovely, and workmen shouldn't give their opinions. When I had my (very boring oak) kitchen fitted, my fitter was all about white gloss units. I mean, clearly that was not my thing! And the horror when I painted the walls bright green . Once it's all together I'm sure you'll feel differently.

TowerRingInferno · 09/11/2018 08:25

I think it looks really good, and nice to see something a bit different too.

lilyblue5 · 09/11/2018 08:26

I love it!
Please post a finished picture!

DramaAlpaca · 09/11/2018 08:29

I love it & think you've made a good choice. I now have a serious case of kitchen envy.
