REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

Ohh I love it! Once it’s all installed and you have all your bits and pieces set out you’ll love it too 😊

Gonegrey31 · 09/11/2018 12:30

The property supplement in today’s Times newspaper has an article about “the kitchen trends that are so hot right now”, quoting someone as saying “it’s all about dark units, .....rapid movement towards midnight blue, dark greys and deep greens”. There is a photograph of a kitchen like yours !
I love the colour you have chosen personally, I definitely would not change it !

Revengers18 · 09/11/2018 12:37

That's a beautiful kitchen OP!! I wouldn't be brave enough to pick that myself but I honestly love the colour! It looks so classy, you're panicking because you haven't seen the final result, once it's all done I'm sure you'll love it!! Looks amazing!

It's normal to have a last minute wobble (lots of my clients do and I have to reassure them) but it will be lovely once it's all in.
I think it's a lovely colour and the accents you have described will make a nice combination.

Thanks so much everyone. Feeling calmer now..... definitely buyers remorse and reality panic setting in! Feel so ridiculous getting in such a state about it! We have been moved out of home for 4 months and think it’s all just got a bit overwhelming. I’m usually such a colour wimp and maybe Iv pushed myself a bit too far in such a new extended space. Trying to feel more confident about it and think carefully about the trimmings.
I agree re the white now it’s up..... looks a bit harsh, but I figure that is much easier to change than the blue if I wanted to in time?? Thanks again I really appreciate it! x

It's gorgeous!! I'm jealous!

Auntpetunia2015 · 09/11/2018 18:09

What are you putting as a splash back if anything that will make a huge difference

ohdearmymistake · 09/11/2018 19:05

I'm painting the house at the moment, I'm onto rooms 5 and 6 now. Each room has had a different strong colour in it, when I put the first coat of paint on I always think that this is the colour that I have to admit to finally going too far with.

Then the second coat goes on and I think it's not to bad then when the room is finished and all put back together I absolutely love it and think what a fantastic choice it was.

Hang in there it will be stunning when finished.

itssquidstella · 09/11/2018 19:07

I love it. Agree that copper accessories would be beautiful, and maybe some aged wood (teak or oak or something) somewhere to warm it up?

ElBelle · 09/11/2018 19:21

@auntpetunia2015 that is a very good question! I am not sure! I was going to just run the quartz up as a back splash as well. I was going to get the veined Carrera quartz but now not feeling so brave. Maybe white with a fleck......
any suggestions or recommendations? I’m all out of inspiration!......

I think it’s fine. It will look less in your face blue once everything is installed and you have other stuff on there. Imagine it with a bunch of blue/grey accessories, maybe a turner print on the wall.

Disfordarkchocolate · 09/11/2018 19:25

It's fabulous. Loads of different colours will go with that blue. I am just a little bit jealous. We need more pictures when it's all done.

Bluewidow · 09/11/2018 19:25

It's probay just because you are used to seeing plain boring white houses. Be bold be brave. I've just painted my living room
Blue, grey settee, retro blue green and orange Wallpaper. Let's get the colour shining in our houses again.

lazymare · 09/11/2018 19:27

I think it looks amazing. I have an old white Ikea kitchen (well, 8 years old...) and would love to paint it either navy or light grey.

goodbyestranger · 09/11/2018 19:30

I love it too OP. It's fabulous.

Cocobana · 09/11/2018 19:38

That’s beautiful Op, I love it

halfwitpicker · 09/11/2018 19:39

Love it.

GenderApostate · 09/11/2018 19:46

The cabinets are lovely, I’m sure it will be stunning, I wish my kitchen was that size Envy
I have a blue kitchen but mine is duck egg blue with brushed steel fittings, I have grey driftwood work surfaces edged with brushed steel, a black glass sink and hob / built in ovens. We went for buttermilk metro tiles for splashbacks and have high gloss charcoal/copper/blue flooring.
It’s been in for 3 years and I still love it.

bellinibobble · 09/11/2018 20:21

Looks stunning and is exactly what I’d choose myself if I could. Lucky you!

Angelkd · 09/11/2018 21:00

I love it ,so different ,when its all done im sure u will change your mind.its a classy colour of blue.x

IAmNotLikeThem · 09/11/2018 21:07

It’s perfect.

Add some warm metal pots and salt and pepper grinders and especially some amber or soft yellow lighting in corners and books and you will live there.

IAmNotLikeThem · 09/11/2018 21:07

Nooks not books

IAmNotLikeThem · 09/11/2018 21:08

Books would be ok though 🙂

jojo2232 · 09/11/2018 21:09

John Barclay the Scottish rugby player has just uploaded pictures of his blue kitchen to Instagram... very similar and beautiful! Fab kitchen very envious xx

It's because the walls are sooo white. I had a blue kitchen with FB blackened on the walls. That softened the blue. You can always paint the units if it doesn't grow on you.
