REALLY Panicking about new blue kitchen

Hi All, we are at the end of a pretty extensive build project. I have spent a year researching and organising my dream kitchen. I’m not usually very bold but wanted to try and be braver than my usual grey so opted for the vision a dark blue and white kitchen.
Was feeling really excited it all, even when it turned up..... but now they have started to install it really isn’t the colour I thought it would be and think it looks way too blue and overall a bit of a design disaster! We have literally spent a fortune on the house and have nothing left to improve anything else. My husband says he likes it (but he says that about everything) and now I’m in proper panic mode!!!
Anyone have any thoughts on whether I am over reacting or if I have made a terrible judgement, what I could do put it right??? Help! I’m really panicking and now feel gutted that rather than feel excited about showing off our new home, I am embarrassed about my design fail! 😫😩🙈

If you look at “mother of daughters” on Instagram she has just had a very similar kitchen fitted.

I like it but personally I’d probably change the colour in a couple of years. It’s very “now” - which isn’t a bad thing at all, I’ve actually just painted my living room in a similar blue. But I think it will date fairly quickly - others will disagree! I think, however, that the cupboards look good quality enough that you can just paint them a white or another trendy colour in the future when you fancy a change so I would crack on! The layout is lovely.

I have dark navy units with chrome. Personally, with the colour you've chosen, I'd get rid of the chrome and use copper or brass instead.

MakeAHouseAHome · 09/11/2018 06:50

When you said blue and white I was imagining pale blue and thought hmmm probablu not. But that is gourgeous!

Looks fantastic, please upload photos when it's finished with floor etc.

It's beautiful have confidence!

It's hard to make so many design decisions, especially when you're doing a whole house.

ElBelle · 09/11/2018 07:12

Fairylea..... just looked at MofD.... that is the dark tone I should have gone for in the blue.
Thanks for all your nice comments. There is no one to blame for the results other than myself..... I totally chose it. Just so hard to visualise until it’s in. On the tester it looks much darker and my husband will go along with anything!
My only real options are to live with it and hope I like it (really worried that won’t happen easily) or get it re-painted to the shade it should be but that requires money that we really really don’t have 😞
I have already gotten the nickel handles too..... ummed and arghed about brass for ages and upset decide. Feel like I have almost had a great idea but just haven’t quite pulled it off.
I know there are much bigger problems to worry about and I just have to suck it up, just can’t help but feel gutted with the end result (compared to what I had in my mind). Thanks for all taking the time to reply though..... really appreciate it!

I love that! It's such a nice shade of blue. I think navy would have been quite dark and harsh.

sheet82 · 09/11/2018 07:13

It's amazing and what a gorgeous space.

LEMtheoriginal · 09/11/2018 07:18

Once youve accessorised it will look amazing. Am very jealous of your space and light.

LEMtheoriginal · 09/11/2018 07:19

Oh thank god you didn't go for brass handles Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/11/2018 07:21

Blue is such a classic kitchen colour in my view - I mean think of Cornish kitchenware ... I like it very much and think that it will age well. I also like the idea of copper/bronze bits and bobs to go with it.

littlebillie · 09/11/2018 07:24

Lovely don't panic it's classic

littlebillie · 09/11/2018 07:25

I know someone who has a clout like this with some grey cupboard mixed in, it works too

ChalkDoodler · 09/11/2018 07:28

It is beautiful.

Wait till everything is in. Kitchens are weird when only part of it is fitted. We had a kitchen extension and I had a wobble when the units were in but no worktop, tiles, flooring pulling it all together.

Your last pic with the fridge freezer shows your camera roll at the bottom of the screen. Report that post if you want it removed.

Auntpetunia2015 · 09/11/2018 07:30

Wait until it’s finished before you write it off. I recently did mine blue and grey (blue base cupboards grey wall) I loved it in the shop then hated it as it started going in, especially like you when the sun shine changed it all. But the splash back tiles went on it totally changed the whole thing and I love it now and so does everyone who visits.

TanyaTonyaMargaret · 09/11/2018 07:32

I think it is completely gorgeous. I wimped out of having navy units at the last minute and went for grey. I love my kitchen but I still have pangs for the navy. I think you need to wait until the work tops are on and also, very importantly, the floor is down (great choice btw, my wretched Smile dh vetoed the herringbone but I love it). That will soften the whole looks and I think once it’s accessorised with a few bits and pieces (try H and M home, they’re great and reasonably priced) , a couple of funky plants it will be absolutely gorgeous.
FWIW it’s worth, I think you made the right decision with the handles too, brass will date quicker. Nickel has more longevity.

Huffabook · 09/11/2018 07:33

It looks absolutely amazing!
Great choice! Please post pictures when it is all finished - we're about to start an extension and I need inspiration!

CormoranStrike · 09/11/2018 07:34

I think that will look stunning !

SchnitzelVonKrumm · 09/11/2018 07:35

My kitchen is Hicks Blue with brushed nickel handles and Iroko worktops - still love it after three years and everyone who sees it says how cool it looks. Yours looks great and TBH any dark colour will look a lot brighter when the sun hits it directly. Our builders did not express a view on the kitchen in my presence but they put actual bets on how much space we'd have left on the wraparound bookcases in the second living room, because no one has that many books. Wrong!

MissMarplesKnitting · 09/11/2018 07:35

It's only half in, I think many people who are fitting a kitchen have an "oh no, it's not what I thought" moment. I did it over where some units are. It's all worked out just fine. Wait until it's painted and decorated fully. I bet it'll be lush.

Onemorefireball · 09/11/2018 07:35

I really like it when the sun hits it!

speakingtruthfully · 09/11/2018 07:36

Haven't read all the thread so don't know if it's been mentioned. But have you removed the protective plastic covering ? My new kitchen was a much different shade after this film was removed

DartmoorDoughnut · 09/11/2018 07:38

I think it’s fantastic Flowers

bumblingbovine49 · 09/11/2018 07:39

Love the colour but I am too practical and have sworn never to buy kitchen doors with panels again. I like the look better than flat doors but the dirt tends to collect in the ridges/corners and they take too long to clean ( I sound like my mother!!). I don't know hunk that colour would work as well with plain flat doors though. I think it will be beautiful. I feel your pain though, I can't commit to choosing a colour for a front door at the moment- too much choice. When we moved in I had the whole house painted. Choosing the colours for that was painful. It took weeks of me spending almost every spare minute with paint strips/samples to make a decision. I have no vision so find it really really hard.

Oblomov18 · 09/11/2018 07:40

I really liked it.
But the last fridge picture made it look totally different.
