How much was your engagement ring?

Feeling nosey! I was on another thread where the OP had £600 to spend on an engagement ring and the first comment was how it was a lot of money and was she sure she wanted to spend that much.

OP posts:

£1500 5 years ago, it's an emerald with diamonds and I love it, it gets nice comments all the time.

idontlikegin · 25/09/2018 00:09

Mine was £17k and I absolutely love it to pieces (it does have its own insurance policy though!)

NotUmbongoUnchained · 25/09/2018 00:12

I didn’t have one because he knew I’d lose it. I have since lost 3 wedding bands Grin

I completely agree lacy No ring can make up for less than a diamond geezer.

ItsalmostSummer · 25/09/2018 00:12

A couple of hundred pounds 👌 I’m not that fussed on jewellery

MelonBuffet · 25/09/2018 00:15

£17k Shock fuck me!! My DP bought me an eternity ring a few years back for about £1250 but I’ve saved him buying me an engagement ring as I want to wear my mum/nan’s ring (both died a few years ago so it’s been in my drawer since then). I thought it was a sentimental thing and that it meant a lot to me, but wouldn’t be particularly valuable. Had it resized and asked out of interest is it worth anything - when he said £4.5k I burst into tears!! We have agreed to get married but he wants to ‘ask me’ officially ConfusedHmm (I know!). So although I wear it anyway, I have to wait to call it my engagement ring Grin

£600, 15 years ago. White gold, replated once, after I lost a lot of weight and looks quite grotty again, now. Just like me, mind.

Monday55 · 25/09/2018 00:53

Mine cost £999

I had told him not to go over £1k

maddjess · 25/09/2018 01:22

Second hand £5500, I adore it

LadyB49 · 25/09/2018 01:28

First ring 40 years ago was about £70. It's now valued at £800. Second ring, second husband was £900 about 13 years ago.

HappyStripper · 25/09/2018 01:33

$200 leaf shape with tanzanite in it. Yellow gold and very thin band as we were getting married young I would have felt a bit ridiculous with anything huge and diamond covered, I feel like it would look like costume jewelry. Got it handmade on Etsy.

bitchwitch · 25/09/2018 02:25

nothing, its a tattoo of a celtic love knot ,he has one too .our wedding bands cover them now.the one that looks like 2 hearts interlaced.

TheFluffyHippo · 25/09/2018 02:27

£135. I chose it myself from an antiques shop. Worn it every day for 9 years and I think I love it even more now than I did then

Effendi · 25/09/2018 02:59

60 quid from a pawn shop.

bear28 · 25/09/2018 03:09

£5500 platinum. Absolutely love it.

Peridot1 · 25/09/2018 03:13

My first one was around £500 from Ratners. If anyone doesn’t know of them they went out of business after their owner said what they sold was crap. Hmm. We then lived overseas where jewellery was much cheaper than here and I upgraded it. Have since had that one reset into platinum and had a matching wedding band made with diamonds from another ring I had and never wore. Love them now.

Peridot1 · 25/09/2018 03:14

Apparently if I want to upgrade again I need to upgrade the husband too. Am thinking about it! Grin

3in4years · 25/09/2018 03:18

Free. A friend gave it to me in childhood and I always wondered why on earth I would need another. It's tiny and dainty and inconspicuous. I would hate a showy ring. It's heart shaped so I got a simple v shaped band for my wedding ring to fit it.

MagentaRocks · 25/09/2018 03:20

Under £300. My dh chose it. I have other jewellery from him that was more expensive but I love my engagement ring. It is an unusual design too.

MrsBellamy · 25/09/2018 03:42

£1750 bought in 2007.
Marriage has since failed but I still love that ring!

ChishandFips33 · 25/09/2018 04:45

Daft get your bling back out and wear it on the other hand Not engaged, just being nosey! My 'spoken for' ring is sentimental rather than valuable

Camomila · 25/09/2018 06:59

Either £1040 or £1400. Not sure!

AlbusPercival · 25/09/2018 07:06

No idea. My husband bought it and surprised me with it. Probably not a fortune as we don’t subscribe to de beers advertising slogans! My wedding ring was £40 as we had run out of cash before wedding and didn’t want to put anything on cards.

KanielOutis · 25/09/2018 07:12

£500 each for the engagement and wedding ring. H Samuel so not worth what we paid, but I like them. It's a lot of money, but not silly money.

Daftapath · 25/09/2018 07:15

@ChishandFips33 I have thought about that but haven't yet. I will probably hand them down to the children at the right time - unless I've had to sell them to find the divorce 🙄

Still looking for a blingy but classy non wedding/engagement ring to wear instead. Maybe a 'divorce ring' 😂
